my guess:
A) market: artificially blow up the purse market and establish purses as mandatory accessory for women
B) design: skintight sexy cuts are maybe not possible with bigger pockets? Also visible items in the pockets of skintight sexy cuts possibly takes away from the sexiness.

always measure your waist, cause if the jeans' waist is wider than yours, it will sit too low for its intended cut.

Depending on how high or low the waist-line of the jeans is supposed to sit, go up or down on your body accordingly
