It's not a matter of a cheaper alternative, it's a matter of quality. Rothco is simply garbage. A pair of their boots for about $50 is fine, and with a pair of Dr. Scholls insoles they are passable. But they will not last as long as Bates or even Belleville boots. And that's not a complement to Bates or Bellevilles.
