Why does runway fashion look so stupid?

Ignoramus here.
So the idea with the runway stuff is that it's not actually meant to be worn by people, it's an exhibition of caricatures of what the designer intends to put out in a season?

depends on the designer, the collections etc
the majority of actual runway fashion is meant to be sold although this can sometimes demand on the desire for the piece, you might have some designers who make wearable clothes but have a running theme throughout them, you might have designers that put conceptual pieces with normal clothing, you might have designers that make regular wearable clothes that arent that conceptual and you might have some that make ridiculous crazy couture dresses and stuff that might not even get sold except maybe to rich celebrities
some designers like to make big extravagant shows, others may like a simple collection focused on the clothes, some may want to just do a lookbook, some may do completely stupid shit amongst their regular clothing just to draw attention
its simply just a way for the designer to put their ethos/their product/their business/their creativity etc out there to people

Ive always assumed this, that some pieces were there for the sake of performance rather than displaying what should be sold. It doesn't take much thinking to come to this conclusion

some designers make clothes that are marketed to the public
others make clothes that are meant to be viewed as art
either way, unconventional silhouettes and color/clothing combinations are eyecatching, which is the entire point

by "marketed to the public" i mean "made with the main purpose of being marketable" i.e. tommy hilfiger, givenchy- old, established houses

you picked one of the most vanilla runway fits possible for this thread too. yikes.
