Anyway, how do I get a classic cut? This might sound dumb but I've tried everything and my hair just doesn't get cut how I want it.

8 on the sides, nothing on top, side-part it?
Last time I went to the barber, I said nothing on top, 10 on sides. He said he hasn't heard of 10, and at that point he could just use scissors. So he did.
It looked fine when I left (still pretty unideal) but it quickly reverted to weighty crap. I was thinking of asking to cut some weight on the top maybe but that's it, cut the side in weight and length, and side-part it.

I have a LOT of hair so maybe it was just a bad call on my part to not get any weight on top cut last time. I'm trying to semi grow it out too, but it always gets too weighty and causes problems.

Maybe I need to use product and I don't realize it?

So I got the back and sides cut short again recently, while leaving the top to grow longer, and the barber asked me what I wanted to do with my hair when it does grow longer. I didn't know.

Any ideas? I'm kind of just growing it longer because you can do more with longer hair than with shorter hair, but I don't actually have an endgame. Should I just grow everything out, including the back and sides?

What should I do with my hair? I have big ears that stick out quite a bit and I don't look very good with super short hair cuts (strangely enough, my head shape looks fine when I'm completely/almost bald but I look like a pinhead when it's between buzzcut length and "short" if the barber doesn't get the proportions just right).

I don't use any products whatsoever right now besides a cheap-ass 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner for washing. I just play with my hair so I don't look awful; usually I tease it into a part of sorts but my hair is more capricious than a 17-year old girl so I just try to work with how it has dried after my shower on that particular day.

I don't really want anything that's "loud", so Hitler Youth and spikey haircuts are out (my hairline looks like shit with spikey hair or a fauxhawk anyways). Just something clean.

I'm between a 1 and 2 on the Norwood balding scale, btw, if you can't tell. I'll post a pic in profile to give you a better idea.

I'm growing my hair longer to the point I could make a bun with it or pull them all back.
But in that process hair at the back are growing way much longer than the top so it starts to become "quilts" on the side.

Basically going to the hairdresser tommorow and I'll probably ask him to shave the bottom of the back and then a gradient.

i always wear my hair in a ponytail because of how ugly it is blonde, but brown hair brings out the ugly in my actual face.

I've posted before and people have told my my hair is 'fine' but the more I work with it and try to style it the more I'm convinced it isn't.

How long are we talking? But I think with your hair being as it is now, with the blondes and light brown fading together, it looks best as a thick bob. Too long and it would look blotchy, and if you wear it like that with one side behind your ear, it does show off the outline of your face well. Both in front I can see how it would look circular.
