ITT: we talk about being weebs, and learn about each other's hobbies! After all, they're sister hobbies in a way.

>Get authentic with your fashion sense and you will get fashionable.
Honestly I think we agree on more things than not, Killy.

>dressing for others
Not sure where you thought I implied that. On the contrary, I believe that a large amount of the reason why people end up dressing up in ways which are unflattering and artificial is because they want to emulate models, cool kids on /fa/, etc to impress the internet or people around them. People around them laff because they dont pull it off as well as the people in the pictures and look like tryhards.

>Dude realize that: There are people who are novices & that they are learning. You don't start good at an style, you get good & make it your own.
Doesn't mean that they can't have more self awareness and common sense to not commit to spending thousands on high fashion clothes to copy inspo pics, only for their style to change.

This being said, I think we can all agree that 'cringe' 'culture' is one of the worst things about this board. Creativity just gets shat on and laughed at. Even if it does look goofy, they're just clothes, man. The only thing I actively dislike seeing is people following what they're inspired by too closely; I'd take a hideous but genuinely creative fit over Kanye West copycats every time

I keep using slp as an example because they're targeted to a very specific type of person and aesthetic which I dont think is very versatile. I'd love to see people pulling off slp in non-heroin chic ways, but I never have.

>>11378274

Fuck off Killy, you're too scared to even post a fit and have terrible newfag taste.

Knoch is a fashion designer, he's an anomaly and not what anyone but your internet bred ass means when they define style. It's a fundamental fashion sense paired with playful/critical engagement.

Wearing clothing is curation and performance both and it requires intimate understanding of your body, your clothes AND your environment. You really need to get outside more if you think art's reception can be separate from its audience. Lay off the fucking toxic motivational memes.

Also
>taste is subjective
No it's not you fucking idiot. It's clearing a misguided vulgarization of postmodern relativity, convenient for 16 year old girls trying to find confidence in their "individuality," but entirely appropriate for a fucking adult.

God you're one dumb mother fucker. Take a break off the board and read pic related. Here's a pdf, you have no excuse: https://monoskop.org/images/e/e0/Pierre_Bourdieu_Distinction_A_Social_Critique_of_the_Judgement_of_Taste_1984.pdf

Stop using your name to trick other newfags into eating up your cancerous gospel, you're a such a shit poster.

I think it's kind of a dead end with that dress unless you're deconstructing it. I'm wondering if the fabric/embroidery could work in a sukajan. Make that the statement piece in a streetwear fit paired with a long skirt. Swap shoes for pink Common Projects. Bucket hat? I dunno.

Just realized how recent that picture must be the Make Noise DPO only came out a few years ago

>>11379289
Alright so

A is like one layered drapey ribbon thing that is like a one piece but almost like bows
B is like a stocking like material that's super stretchy and stuff
C is kim K style accents which are found here (>>11378796) and also present on the waist
D are gloves
E Is 3 layers of lace trim, not too in your face but still minimal
F Is a a PVC umbrella with the heart accents like the stockings and will have lace trim (I just forgot to draw the hearts)
G is a fut barret
H are non lacing slip on saddle/dancing shoes that are one solid color
I is the dress but idk how to describe it

The dress and the fur hat will always match depending on the colorway. The colorways would be dusty pink, cream, and black. The kim K section would be the same the material no matter the colorway but would be whiter in the black dress. The stocking heart part would have white hearts in the cream and pink colorways but the in black the hearts would be black. The shoes would be cream, egg shell white or black depending on the color way.

Hopefully this makes sense and I'll clear anything up if need be.
>>

Ugh, I was going to do this in Photoshop but opening it bluescreened my PC for some god-forsaken reason. Sorry, my pencil sketches are always messy as hell. I tried to redraw your design, but from a lolita perspective.
> I kept the fur beret, but added a small velvet ribbon to the corner.
> I kept the sheer heart underlay, but changed the V-neck collar to a square collar with criss-crossed neckties.
> I exchanged the draped ribbon for a bow with folded-over edges in a similar fashion.
> Instead of having the puff sleeves cuffed with fur and the sheer heart fabric on the sleeves, I added two layers of lace that match the hem, with sheer black gloves and cuffs in fur.
> I added a sash around the waist tied into a bow, made out of the sheer heart material, with lace edging that matches the turtleneck.
> I changed the skirt to a suitable lolita bell-shape, but kept the scallops and lace trim, adding small velvet ribbons between each scallop.
> Keeping with the ankle socks, I folded down the tops and added lace around the ankle, changing the material to the matching heart fabric.
> I gave her similar looking shoes but with a violin motif, these are actually from the brand Innocent World.
I can also give the other anon's drawing a go, if they'd like.

as an ex-/cgl/ you /fa/ guys would have an easier time converting these girls with stuff that looks like what brands under the Comme des Garcons umbrella produce, like Tao and Tricot. Like this dress could easily be worn in a dark mori-girl co-ord with a cute negligee and a flower basket to carry picnic snacks in. Then my future boyfie could co-ordinate a matching outfit with Nemeth knickerbockers and a drapey Rick shawl or something~

Cgl isn't exclusively lolita. Take a look at Elegant Gothic Aristocrat, Otome, Mori girl, Dolly Kei, Cult Party, Visual Kei (and all of it's subgenres), Decora, Fairy Kei, Uchuu Kei, Menhera, Larme, Nanchatte, Gyaru, Neo-gyaru, etc. J-fashion is so diverse there's usually something for everyone~

>I feel like /cgl/ might have different opinions on looking like you're dressing up, because you literally are over there, and you're self-aware of it because that's the whole point
You're right with OTTs I think, the feeling of freedom (sorta) escapism that you can get from making yourself look entirely different and extravagant is really enjoyable to me, even if they are costume-y.

That said, I don't feel like I'm dressing up that much anymore when I'm wearing lolita, which I do most days now... I don't have a huge wardrobe but I definitely feel comfy and natural in it, and not all lolitas are super extravagant. Admittedly the first time I went out in public wearing full coord I was really nervous, but you get over it. Like I imagine much of /fa/ does when wearing weird clothes for the first time, no?

I wear it as much as possible now, being surrounded by nice things makes me feel happier

>When I wear my stupid baggy clothes everyday, I never feel like I'm dressing up
It depends for me, when wearing Lolita I feel like myself way more than when I wear 'normal' clothes. The weird bit is that when I go out, it's usually people staring that makes me feel like I am dressed up. I-I just want to look nice goddamnit...

>you're self-aware of it because that's the whole point
I can only speak for myself- but the more self aware I am about how I look, the better I am able to manage it. Does that make sense? I hope so

>what theories are you referring to?
There are a few, one of which believes that Lolita is a way for women to look back to the rococo era, a period of extravagance and feminine elegance which wasn't necessarily linked to sexuality. Or something

>constant long replies ;_;
Sorry about that, but as >>11381864 said, these threads are cute. Have to say, some of the discussions here have been interesting

Sorry for the late reply anon, I've been surviving on black coffee and doughnuts for the past couple of days, been busy!

Also yes what on earth is cuck core?? Do I want to know
>>
>>11382028
Cuck core is like basically basics, but from super expensive brands like acne and APC. they literally look like clothes you can get from uniqlo for a total of $100 for a fit while they spend $600 on a fit from APC lol.
>>
>>11381864
I do get nervous when I wear crazy stuff in public, but generally I have a 'I know I look good' attitude whenever I do wear it... But I only wear clothes that really go against the norm whenever I'm going to a function that has a lot of equally weird people, like cosplay festivals, concerts, etc. But then again, I felt weird when I got my first pair of boots, since I never wear boots. Felt kinda weird wearing them and I was kind of conscious trying to pull them off
>>
>>11382035
Interesting. Nothing quite like it in Lolita to this extent, although brands do release some weird stuff from time to time. Do others realise that they're wearing an expensive item, or does the wearer have to show it off? Or neither?

>>11382048
>but generally I have a 'I know I look good' attitude
Best attitude to have desu. Ignore the stares, and don't expect everyone to understand your fashion taste.
>>
>>11382074
To be fair, it's the fit and quality that makes them worth the price, sometimes they have extremely subtle cues that make them different than other products. If you look at common projects Achilles shoes, they have a little number printed onto it that signifies it's brand. On the outside, that's the only difference that makes it look any different than a Walmart white shoe, but quality wise it's a really good shoe. High quality materials, stitched sole instead of glued, etc. But regardless, only people who know about fashion will notice these things. Even then, with cuck core it's kinda like 'oh hey he's wearing APC. cool.' Instead of any of the other styles where you actually are expressing yourself

Most of the time, the wearer likes to show it off because its so hard to tell otherwise, hahah

>don't expect anyone to share my fashion taste
Yep, and I don't. I love being different, and people notice all the time and compliment me on my clothes frequently. Confidence is key, and I believe its important for Lolitas as well, since coords are incredibly attention grabbing and against the norm. I'm still surprised some of you wear lolita daily, that's really cool.
>>
>>11381864
>I dont want these cute threads to die ;(
that's sweet anon. I much prefer threads to chat rooms, mostly because I prefer slow-moving talks and I'm a little less comfy when I have a name above me that isn't anonymous

>Like I imagine much of /fa/ does when wearing weird clothes for the first time, no?
I'm pretty secure in that I don't really care much about weird looks, but I do get you. It's always uncomfy seeing yourself in reflections after you've changed your look significantly, it's like getting a haircut

>not all lolitas are super extravagant

>being surrounded by nice things makes me feel happier

>Not a bad thing and does the job, just not interesting, and money could be better spent on something more unique

I found both of your answers to be similar, but where does the line get drawn between being original and enjoying oneself? Is it even that clear of a line? Are the two seen to be mutually exclusive?

Confidence is actually something a lot of lolitas have felt while wearing it, we feel more able to express ourselves and be comfortable in our weird clothes.

>>11382482
>anime clothes
I laughed a bit too hard at this, sorry

>>11382696
Opinions differ vastly, as always. Some people think it is fine, but others think it ruins the theme of elegance and cuteness in a coord. Personally, it depends how apparent the piercings are, whether they fit the coord, etc.
>>
>>11382785
>where does the line get drawn between being original and enjoying oneself? Is it even that clear of a line? Are the two seen to be mutually exclusive?

well, there are people that enjoy being really boring, monotone and generally uninteresting, in fact, two styles have emerged just because of it. normcore embraces normality and blending in, it's a sort of anti-fashion, and same with palewave. palewave is just normcore, but with lighter clothes... the thing is, like i said before, fashion is a form of self expression, so when people are wearing either one of those it's pretty much saying either 'i like to be normal' or 'i love to follow internet meme trends'

fashion is meant to be enjoyed, it's really diverse. personally, i hate fitting molds and blindly following trends, and i hate soulless execution of fashion. basically, i just hate instagram-tier people who just wear clothes just to be famous, it ruins the sanctity of fashion... i know i sound like an elitist, but i hate people who jump from trend to trend and wear super safe clothes and label themselves as 'original' or something like that. that being said though, people like to do all that, people like to be the center of hype and wear things and do stuff they don't understand so that they could be the most exclusive in their little circle. as long as they're enjoying themselves, by all means, i guess.
>>
>>11382815
>fashion is a form of self expression, so when people are wearing either one of those it's pretty much saying either 'i like to be normal' or 'i love to follow internet meme trends'
there must be more than just these two things. i dress pretty normcore because i don´t really like strangers and feel like it´s not their fucking problem what kind of human i am. so i rather not make much of a statement about my personality through my clothes. thank god i´m still in college so i can just run around in chucks, jeans and a basic tee without anyone giving a fuck

>super dumb
hardly. "taste is subjective" is an incredibly hard to defend maxim that crumbles the second its put under the lens. Tell me, where does your taste come from, if magically isolated from your environment. Is it genes? Is it something deep down in your heart? Your god given soul? Just because we come from different cultural backgrounds and experiences that precludes the possibility of true objectivity in something as ambiguous as the arts does not suggest the only alternative is total subjectivity. There's a middle ground, retard. Taste is /somewhat/ subjective, but also externally informed. A child could see that, if the nigh-religious maxim wasn't grounded into them repeatedly by popular media - funny, you received it from the same memeplexes informing 'your' taste.

Knoch is an anomaly because he's a designer & heavily modifies his clothes. His style is one that is inherently attached to his brand and identity; it's very much like some other designers who choose to introduce their personal fits into their public identity and closely tie their work to their own wardbrobe. If you're not aware, most designers do not make their collections for themselves to wear, not even as a secondary motivation.

The question is about style. The vast majority of people - including actual designers - that have it don't create or /heavily/ modify the pieces they wear. In this case, as I said, the act of wearing fashion involves curation as a facet of its artmaking. Intimacy with the pieces in your wardrobe is as important as sensitivity with your body. Yohji is fulfilled when the right woman wears his work, not when he does.

Killy, in his under educated newfaggotry, only knows fashion through /fa/ and the ceiling of his frame of reference ends with the distorted lens of our few legendary trips. That ginger guy who wears yy or birthday might not drop the best fits or the most informed posts ever, but they're much more representative of what actual living style looks like in the real world.

Why any more than at any other time? Do other people on /cgl/ often go to work dressed in coords? And is it difficult to dress like you do in the summer?

>where does the line get drawn between being original and enjoying oneself?
well, fun and originality aren't mandatory. Some (I'd say most) people on here just want to look good and have no intention of looking weird, and simply by wearing well-fitting basics you're already dressing better than like 90% of the population. I personally don't try consciously to be 'original', I just find weird cool shit I like from y!jp (does /cgl/ buy from Japan much?) and throw it all together in ways which I think work. Internet trends are mostly lame but they're fun once in a while (I still like Gosha for example)

>>11382815

I wouldn't say that this is always the case? I'd say that art and clothing as self-expression is quite a recent thing. A lot of it relates more to the developing off ideas and concepts. yeah, i said that after someone said that they don't care about how they look. when people don't care about fashion, its no longer a form of self expression, since it doesn't exist.. if you know what i'm saying

and what does /fit/ have to do with it? when you're interested in fashion and you start applying it, it becomes self-expression.

Neither one is a great beauty but I like their style and seeing as this is /fa/ that's really what's important.
>>
>>11383685
Style really does not hinge on whether you make it very personal or just curate the work (clothes) of somebody else. Personally i'd say wearing the 'style' of some other person or designer like yohji is less stylish. If you look at knoch his intimacy with the garments he makes and wears of other designers is on an almost obsessive level.

you'r alway going to have people like, that, in fashion or not. usually those with more money than sense. but still, they're having fun, and maybe that is their actual style? My job is SRS BSNSS 24/7. Have to wear dark suits. Lolita is my outlet, as otherwise I wouldn't have enough kawaii in my life. It depends what area of work you're into, some are more accepting than others.

> And is it difficult to dress like you do in the summer?
Yes, and when it is hot, I just don't wear Lolita at all. Would rather not get sweat on my burando. Petticoats and wigs make it twice as worse.

>I personally don't try consciously to be 'original'
I get that, when I like something, I just wear it without second thoughts.

>does /cgl/ buy from Japan much?
ofc, where do you think we get our anime clothes from.
Seriously, there are some indie brands, Chinese brands, and Japanese international stores. But for second hand markets and release days, Japan is pretty much the way to go. We use shopping services or forwarding services if international shipping isn't available.

I feel your pain. When release time comes around and I get a set (dress, tights and bow usually) I usually end up paying ÂŁ25 approx for EMS.
Rarer sets and dresses are more likely to come up on the second hand market. Some brands have regulations to target any scalpers which may sell a piece for a significantly higher price just after release, but there are bound to be scalpers either way.

>>11386843
>Some brands have regulations to target any scalpers which may sell a piece for a significantly higher price just after release
What regulations? Reselling is huge over here, usually with streetwear and Hypebeast sneakers or whatever. No restrictions really work because the resellers are always the first there anyway; you get people queuing up for hours and camping outside shops for days to buy Supreme and flip it

There's a lot of resellers of rare items from Japan too (I don't really like it but can't do anything about it, and somebody's bound to do it i there's a market for it)

Nope, and a bit. They think that 'anime stuff' is cool though, and is put in the nerdy bracket. I've shown some of my coords, and they think it is ornate and elegant. I just can't expect everyone to be so accepting and open minded so I don't shove it down everyone's throat.

>Refuse to believe that the people who wear wigs all year simply deal with the top of their head boiling all the time
As far as I'm aware no, maybe someone better well versed in wigs will be able to answer. When it's hot, it's better to not wear a wig at all, and style your hair. Petticoats are usually a must.

>What regulations?
It's because of the limited amount of dresses available on the market. Angelic Pretty for example, has warned against resellers which buy several items from a series (keeping in mind that sometimes there is a restriction on how many items you can buy on release day) and sell it at a higher price. It seems to be pretty arbitrary, and it looks like only official providers are allowed to sell them??? Idk. I'm hoping shopping services won't be affected.

I still quite rejoice the fact that there are so many people from /fa/ in London!

I'm sure not everyone is like that! It's just some are really socially awkward and don't really know how to read situations. Been there, done that. I don't even watch anime/read manga anymore, but I still harbour fascination for jfash, food and culture.

for the amazing poof! They are light and fluffy, and it is probably the reason why I love this fashion. Lolita dresses wouldn't be as cute without the poof. as someone on /cgl/ said: 'the bigger the petticoat, the closer to japan'

>I still dont really get what it does. What makes it go poof?
It's an underskirt, usually made out of gathered organza (although tulle used to be more popular). The way it is tailored and gathered will determine the shape of the garment that will go over it. For lolita, there are two types- A-line and bell-shape. Not all dresses will go with both.

>oh yeah of course, didn't really mean to sound bitter or anything
It's ok, I've met a fair few that do fit the stereotype

>from what? Is there a specific buy/sell site for coords?
That's where it gets hazy. Sometimes banned from shops, some banned from the official websites. Official brand websites are where the newest releases are up for sale, but if the print is very popular and if there is a predetermined amount of stock, they will sell out within minutes. AP mostly does this, while BTSSB mostly doesn't.

Good guess anon, spot on. It's le reddit sub, basically a beginner's site for learning about fashion. >Would it be possible to use non-lolita ones for lolita dresses? Wgat would be wrong with that if no?
I guess you could get away with using a 50s style petticoat with A-line dresses, but square dancing petticoats or just decorative ones aren't really going to work. Lolita dresses are gathered in a way that other types of petticoats will not give the distinct lolita silhouette.
Tiered dresses, for example, need both a bell shaped and an A-line petticoat, due to how they are sown.

>Are there any specific dresses which are overplayed on /cgl/?
at the top of my head, I can think of Cat's Tea Party, Cinema Doll, Iron Gate and Puppet Circus. They're both quite rare and expensive. Alongside that, there are a few JetJ and Metamorphose dresses which are up there too. And some limited edition, OTT pieces.

>does /cgl/ have meme-dresses like we have meme-clothes
that one doge dress- legendary. It is one of my 'grails'(?)

Same anon, same. Now we hardly have original content besides the draw thread, but really it just brings in the tumblrinas. You can kind of treat it like waywt, though most girls who post aren't gulls.

Because of said reasons. It was back when j-fashion wasn't a focus of the board, just lolita and cosplay. Most posters were cosplayers, not lolitas so it was trying to be j-fashion weeb wear. Moot changed the rules, it was a topic of debate... Resulted in janitors quick to delete if they thought it wasn't j-fashion enough. Now the focus has to be j-fashion or lolita, and not enough posters wear it daily/have thick enough skin to post, so threads made nowadays die quickly.

> t-three second rule?

>Does it automatically make it OTT sweet to have literal sweet things on your dress?

No, OTT is based on how you carry out the coord. Over the top accessorising, for example. You can have a sweets based print and be carry it off in a demure way, and that will be seen as sweet.

>Tfw when my dad probably has more pastels in his closet than I ever had
I've always found pastels to be trickier, sweet lolitas are great at coordinating

>A real regular /cgl/ waywt should be started.
As other anions have said, there used to be one. It's a shame because it would've been a great source of day to day inspo.

>mate this is all confusing as shit
Sorry anon!!
Yeah you do stack up petticoats- I've stacked three at most, some other lolitas I've known do four. This isn't just for day to day unless you want ultimate poof 24/7.
Tiered dresses are tailored to withhold volume at the top of the skirt, as well as the bottom. In order to achieve that sort of volume, you wear both a bell shaped and an A line petticoat. Does this make sense senpai?

I'm trying my best to learn from you guys ;_;

This reminds me of people who jump on hype bandwagons when it comes to releases.
Or when said dress is a replica from bodyline.
