I found it on craigslist 2 years ago and then it was sold, I scoured the net for it, asked around some local Toyota forums and found it, asked the owner how much and I bought it for 7500.

>>11266407

True, had a big port engine but the previous owner put a 7afe bottom so now it's stroked to 1.8l.

I'd love some lighter JDM bumpers but some cunt my swerve into my shit.

Ok, how do I because more effay? I'm not starving myself or wearing any SUPREME shit.

Yeah, Cusco 5pt, gutted rear.

It's a mixed bag, the widebody quarters are a little shoddy, and are starting to crack but everything else is mint.

>44 000 KM on the 7age
>Tokico HTSs
>Celica Supra rear end with LSD
>RX7 FC brake calipers
>Sway bars and adjustable lateral bars

Since my quarter windows are starting to leak, I'm thinking of just getting some Lexan sheets and make lightweight windows out of them and hide the rivets with the weather strips.

Alternatively, I went to some garage sale yesterday held by an old man, it was a treasure trove, he had stuff dating back to the 60s, VB radios, tons of Frank Sinatra vinyls, an unopened can of barley extract from the fucking 50s, ect.

He wanted to sell me his pristine FWD 84 Corolla with just 100 000km on the clock but I told him I had my hands full with my 86.

>"the 86s? the real wheel drive sport model?"

dude dude dude please tear that Cusco cage out, sell it to some ricer, and have somebody build you a real one. Cusco cages are seriously underbuilt and don't pass tech for any legitimate racing series, in fact they're often more dangerous than no cage at all.

I spent several years working for a track prep shop that specialized in cages, and we were absolutely appalled when we got to look at some Cuscos up close.

Oh, and if you want to do plastic windows, check out a material called Makrolon. It's cheaper than lexan and more scratch resistant.

Bolt-ins can actually be OK if they're well done, the problem with the Cusco is that it's weak at the most important stress points and in a crash/roll it could turn into a bunch of steel spears flying around the car.

Here's a bolt-in bar we developed for the Porsche 991, obviously this is way up at the top of bolt in bars, but they can definitely be good if done well. I'd swap it for an Autopower if nothing else, and there are enough guys in the hachi community that fap to Cusco that you could probably sell yours for enough to buy an AP.
>>
>>11267490
The E21 is. You're not.
>>
>>11267487

Good luck, I was also looking forever for one but if you come across one, do a compression test, listen for any knocking, make sure all gears work, pop the hood and inspect every nook and cranny for any damage (86 owners fix their own stuff so it won't show up on a Carfax), check the fenders and under the quarters for rust, if you can, have the car jacked and take a peek under, take a peek at the rear end to make sure it's not an SR5 (or spin a wheel and both should be spinning).

If there's a leaky distributor, you can fix it, make sure the alternator can hold a charge, the quarter windows will probably be leaking so have those resealed, and check all the hoses in the engine bay (I had an oil cooler line burst on my way home at 2am the day I bought it)

These are the really scary parts right here. Most forces in a cage are carried by the main hoop, and the diagonal bar is the key to its strength. In this setup you're relying on a single bolt to bear all of those forces, and then on top of that the legs are at a sharp angle so they can spread apart and collapse easily. You also want the diagonal bar to end above the driver's head, and since the Cusco is meant for JDM cars, what strength it has is all above the passenger's head, not the driver's.

Oh shit, I just realized that that's actually the rear legs and not the main hoop. I see now that the hoop has no diagonal bar at all, which is super sketch, it looks like it mounts unusually far forward too.

A bit lower than the holes is fine, but yeah, some of the Autopower ones look pretty low. That's not true of all of their bars though, for example the E36 and E46 M3 ones have totally functional harness bars.

It's also worth noting that the really important thing is actually how the bar lines up with the driver's shoulders and not the holes themselves, so depending on seat there can be some serious variance in how the holes and bar line up. (Recaro seats tend to have higher holes than Sparco, for example.)

Here's a real cage I worked on, built to NASA specs, and you can see that the harness bar is a bit below the shoulder holes.

And here's the finished and installed version of the GT3 bar I posted earlier, again designed along series rules and vetted by very experienced engineers and fabricators. (Note that it's not actually series legal for anything because it's only a half cage, but it's designed as the back half of a full cage would be and could easily be expanded into a full one.)

Note that the Porsche harness holes are ridiculously high, and the seats sit pretty far up there as well, this bar is really designed for people with low-mount aftermarket seats. (Which are popular because the Porsche buckets actually kinda suck.)

oh my gawd, id like to see that lol. its like racing a race horse on a donkey with good handling.
>>
>>11267213
>group A an N
lololo yea, group A and N, exactly.

the AE86 is just an old slower toyota frs (vice versa) its only popular because drifters need Japanese rear wheel drive cars that are cheap. its not profficcient at anything unless your comparing it to a VW bug,
its just a rear wheel drive celica, nothing phenomenal like other cars.
>>
>>11267219
fun if your used to riding a bike lol
>>
>>11269462
Yes, when the ae86 came out it was just a slower FRS

Lol why get a $7000 ae86 when you can get a $27000 FRS?
>>
>>11269464
because they are both japanese cars, made of cheap materials. i want luxury. german luxury, italian luxury, etc.
>>
>>11269476
You totally missed my point and the whole purpose of Japanese cars. Congratulations you proved you're an idiot
>>
wtf is this
>>
>>11269481
no i dont think you understand that not everyone like japanese cars. i have a lexus and ill never drive anothother japanese again because when i drive a japanese car it feels like im driving a knock off mercedes, bmw, bentley, ferarri, etc.

i personally even prefer american cars to japanese brands, its because of the history m8, and racing heritage beefs, its very common in car culture.
>>
>>11269513
>>11269481
its just ike any feud, democrat, republican, vanila vs chocolate ice cream. star wars vs star trek, it has to do with the person mostly
>>
>>11268337
yes they do.
>>
>>11269513
I really like Japanese cars of the 80s, 90s, and early 00s, but I feel like they've stagnated really badly lately. I think the fact that Japanese companies aren't really involved in racing anymore has done a lot of damage.
>>
>>11271382
Yeah. I guess making tin boxes filled packed with airbags for families is where the money is at. I heard somewhere that toyota wanted to start focusing on motorsport again though.
>>
>>11269462

Because of the tofu tax and being older than 25 years, ripe for import into the US, RHD 86s are even more expensive than their USDM counterparts.

They drift them because it's fun and easy.

>its just a rear wheel drive celica

The Celica is alot heavier

>>11269464

Because the FRS is gay as shit and everyone has one and I'm not particularly fond of Subie boxer engine.

With 27K, I can stick a BEAMS in my 86 and have enough to fix up the body and smoke an FRS and anything else.

>>11269476

So basically, you're a faggot that only cares about the badge?

>Muh luxury
>Muh prestige
>Muh badge

>>11269513

>"Beefs"

Please kill yourself
>>
>>11272330
Speaking of the Celica, I still say that the FR-S is really a modern RWD Celica and not an AE86 successor.
>>
time for seppuku if you are driving anything other than an s2k or z33+
>>

>>11269513

You rermind me of those type of people that buy old used Mercs and Bimmers to show everyone how rich and "balla" they are.

Or like my middle eastern wigger friend of mine that bought an old 750 series because "Yo Tu pac Sugar drove dis mang" and "German Luxury dawg", "prestige and reliability"

Guy sold it the next month because it always broke down.

I think that may have been somebody else, I don't recall ever posting anything like that.

My S2K isn't going anywhere, because I'd never be able to replace it. (Even if I found another stock, clean, sub-30k AP2, it wouldn't be the one my dad bought brand new.) Also my old man's name is still on the reg so I couldn't sell it if I wanted to anyway.
>>
>>11272456
i'm actually suprised you know what an s12 nissan is

i owned one for a week or 2 in high school

as a second car

was primered, on 240z wheels and stripped interior with the ground cut for sleepy eye tail lights i used to fuck around on
>>
>>11272497
>sub-30k AP2
newst one is now 10 years old, dirt cheap

you can get ap1's for less than $7k and ap2's less than 12 easy

>>11272375
>old used Mercs and Bimmers to show everyone how rich and "balla" they are.

why do mexicans always do this?

i see them in like some 1998 mercedes they put rims and tint on and think they're rich
>>
>>11272330
when the AE86 was new

the celica supra was the performance car in the lineup

later on celica and supra parted ways into 2 different cars
>>
>>11265837
This is a pretty solid aesthetic man I'm not gonna lie to ya
>>
>>11272506

Who doesn't know what an S12 is? S12,S13,14,15, ect.

There's a guy on CL that's selling a completely restored one for 10K

I would have bought it if it wasn't such a heavy pig.
>>
>>11272554

Th-thanks senpai.

Lift and do HIIT uphill on off days works best. I found that if I just did slow cardio, I just lose muscle and still have flab.

In order to be lean and keep as much muscle as possible, you literally have to torture yourself with hiit to get rid of stuborn midsection fat and cut to single digits.

>the bike is sub 9 pounds as a complete bike
Do you honestly expect anyone to believe that shit? Do you mean like kilograms?
Also OP seems like a cool dude, I'd hang out with him
>>
>>11272556
Not worth it and the 1.8t in it was such a low output it was sad
>>
>>11272592
Yes. Come weigh it.
>>
>>11272512
30k as in miles, not price. Mine has around 27,000 on it right now.
>>
>>11272616
Sure let me just book a plane flight over the Atlantic ocean just to weigh your bicycle.
I refuse to believe a titanium framed bike weighs under 9 pounds until sufficient proof is presented.
>>
>>11273238

Carbon fiber is an amazing thing. I held a CF made bike once and was blown away at how light it was, 9 pounds isn't out of the ordinary.
