It'll be hard to get it jet black where the pattern won't show anymore. It being 100% cotton helps but I don't know if you can get fully rid of the pattern.

I'd suggest giving it a try using Dylon machine dye. Get a packet, throw it in the washing machine according to instructions and see what happens.
