Carol Christian Poell thread. I want to know more about this mysterious brand. Where does one buy his pieces. I read online they're works of art and meant for display instead of actual wear? Anyone have any pieces of his?
>>
You could find pieces on Grailed, never looked for other places.
>>
Eh, I definitely wouldn't say the brand is intended soley for display, but I think it might be fair to say they stand up equally well as standalone, aesthetic objects as they do garments.

I have a leather jacket from 2008, and a sweater from 2003, which was from before CCP moved even further out to the fringes. A lot of people say that he stepped up his game after Deepti Barth joined (I think that was in 2005).

His tailored pieces sit very differently than other brands. They distort the silhouette and shape of the body and sit in kind of a contrast to it. He's done a lot of work with clothing as its own body. I think there's a button-down shirt on eBay with piping veins between two layers of fabric that move as the fabric moves. He did a bunch of garments lined in parachute fabric that could be dissociated from the body and dragged behind, like a shed skin.

The technical details of his patternmaking are really cool and worth seeing in person. Not many places stock his stuff, I bought my jacket from The Archive (Darklands and Ink have new stock, but the former has bad service and the latter mostly has weird color leathers).

My leather is calf (VIT-PTC), but he uses a lot of other kinds as well, including horse, bison, donkey, deer, and kangaroo. Everyone says kangaroo makes for the best sneakers (ROOMS-PTC is better than ROOLS-PTC). A few forums have a bunch of the fabric codes written down so you can find one for a more complete view.

Unfortunately, it's hard to find pictures of his collections. There are a few places online you can find them, but the photos on his website are username- and password-protected. Here are some videos (generally not very good quality):

As much as I like drips, I really do feel those are more sculptural pieces than actual things you wear.

By that I mean: the drips off the shoes are what give it that added unique look and wearing them does, eventually, wear them down -- which kind of destroys that element.

But, that's me.
>>
>>11168241
Want black ones bad.
They are probably around the same price no matter where you get them.
Are you seriously getting a pair? Jelly as fuck.
>>
>>11166435
this. ccp is all about giving discomfort to the wearer (unless you are a masochist which i assume most ccp fans are)

You probably have to make 100 posts to SZ and hundred "Ave Fausts" every evening before you go to sleep to have the privilege to make formal request for his superior knowledge and appreciation though.

Faust actually doesn't like CCP any more, if you read enough of the the thread. He objects to his approach to fashion as a system (e.g. not doing seasonal collections, pretty much withdrawing from public exhibitions entirely). I think that's a pretty lame excuse and that it's important to have people like CCP and Sruli Recht and Hussein Chalayan who push new techniques and materials.

There's also a lot of mythology surrounding CCP's work. He stopped producing zipped gloves a while ago and the word on the internet was that each tooth had to be affixed by hand rather than full taped teeth being put down. It was also said that he could dye leather in such a way as to maintain the veins, leading to treatments like this jacket.

That sounds really interesting but I can't really imagine what you're saying. Could for perhaps search for the piece online and post it?

Sure. I was wrong, it was on Darklands and not eBay, and I didn't do a really good job of describing it. It's pretty subtle on the non-zoomed photos but I'm sure it's more noticeable in person and in motion. It's on this page:

Just like his thread about Grailed was a thinly-veiled grasp at authority and authenticity, his opinion feels mostly based on a desire to become an "insider" with "authoritative knowledge." I guess he's already at that point, but whatever.

I have a pair of brand new black LUC-PTC (horse leather) derbies that I'm getting vibrammed this weekend. The smell that emanates from the dye used is incredibly strong, enough to feel it in my front sinuses, and it's currently stinking up my closet. Hopefully after routine wear it dissipates. Also when you handle them the dye rubs off on your fingers.

The patterning and materials used are excellent. The cordovan is thick as fuck and as free from imperfections as far as CCP leathers go. The shape is in my opinion far superior to the derbies from A1923 and the like which are far too round and look clownish. I might even sell my Guidi 788z's because I find their toebox much too round in comparison to the derbies.

Construction is both good and not so good. The construction of the sole and heel with the nails and shank is dreamy and probably my favorite part of the shoes. In contrast, in some places the stitching of the upper is just wonky. I'll upload some pictures of the stitching in question. Also in the interior of one of the shoes you can see a bunch of glue that looks like it was applied sloppily, but this is a minor gripe since it's not visible. In a perfect world I would have liked a properly straight stitch for a pair of shoes that cost 1.2k euro but I guess that's par for the course with CCP.

Having said all that I'm definitely getting tornadoes next.

I'll be dumping some pics of my derbies.

Never will be able to afford any of these pieces but they're always cool to look at.

One of his black Blazers would be p cool
>>
If you spend some time on Y!JP auctions, there are a few interesting things. Mostly early stuff, which isn't quite as cool. There's a pair of these shoes in a different color and without the glue skin, if I recall correctly. Cool concept, ugly shoe.

>>11173418
Word on the street is that he's working on a new collection, but I think that's been the rumor ever since Deepti left to do her own stuff.

>>11173473
If you look closely, it's one of the "prosthetic spine elbow" leather jackets, with the titanium pads sewn in. Not that it reduces the cheese factor, or anything.

>>11173272
Those look great. Nice purchase. I'm on the fence between getting some shell cordovan Guidis and getting a pair of Tornados. I feel like the Guidis would be more versatile, but every time I see the Tornados they look so cool and so distinct. It's too bad the U-cup soles are supposed to be fragile since those look crazy.
>>
Has he done a wrinkle or a crumple shirt? Im trying to find a picture of it but I cant.
