Of course. It's a way for everyone to express themselves, and reach a much larger base.

I fucking love it. I used to think instagram was lame, but I've become much more fond of art and fashion, I've learned the appeal.

It's not necessarily vain or superficial, it's a gateway for everyone to express themselves. You look at random people's instagram, and you see how many different personalities you see. It's intriguing and I love it.

well put guys. i fuckign love that the internet gives you a way to peer into the lives and minds of so many people from different walks of life. to get these perspectives, it used to be that someone would have to write a good book, that gets recognized, that gets published in your country, and that you happen to read, but now adays you can see it all on instagram. and further more, if they're not too famous, you can comment on there posts and begin a dialogue to discuss their work, which was mostly impossibnle in the past.

we are truly experiencing the golden age of the internet.

i'd like to address something you said.I agree that it isn't inherently vain to use insta, BUT it certainly can show that someone is vain. as instagram is a way to express oneself, if all that you post are selfies and the like, i often infer that they are quite vapid.

Your last point is also why I love instagram. It's a great mirror to see whom I might connect with well. It does sound incredibly superficial, but so far I've not been off.

I think we're moving into a new generation, the age of communication and identity. It has never been easier to connect and understand the world from different people before.
We used to be dependent on learning from our fathers and neighbours, but now we can learn from anyone. It's incredible.

I have noticed this homogeneity of style and aesthetic as well. It seems to naturally lead to a 'singularity' of style, where all the influences of the world designate one style as 'cool'. But then I remember that hip people are always going to break away from their old aesthetic once they see it as being 'played'.

So as the internet speeds up the rise of trends, it speeds up the fall of trends. For example, Stan Smith's seemed to rise and fall this past summer (thats not a knock to the show, it's just about how many ppl are wearing them).
