I'm in market for a watch.

I want which is:
1) Reliable
2) Easy to read - "minimalistic" - less features is ok!
3) Rugged -- I can smash my wrist against the table and it will be fine
4) Quiet
5) Takes NATO straps
6) Under $100 USD

I'm looking at Casio (holy shit they look awful), Timex (pretty but unreliable and loud), then there's the Seiko (which is ?)

Seiko

Seiko is fantastic for it's price point, especially the basic 5 series. They meet all but one of your criteria. Of course, there are drawbacks at that price point, and for the Seiko 5s it's the poor power reserve.
>>
I don't think any $100 watch will let you just smash your wrist against a table, but otherwise an Orient Bambino might be good.

yes mine will stop while I sleep, even fully wound you can't skip a day without having to set the time, it is "needy"
don't fall for the automatic meme, just get a quartz that will keep time always.

You cant really get much... Seiko 5 will be the recommended watch.
>Takes NATO straps
Pretty much anything can take a nato strap man.
>Rugged -- I can smash my wrist against the table and it will be fine
Quartz movement
>Casio
dw5600, best watch ever made

Honestly just get any plain looking quartz watch, stay away from automatics if ruggedness is a primary concern.

All these people recommending seiko don't know shit. If you want a reliable watch that looks good on a nato and is built like a tank for <$100, you want a Vostok Amphibia or Komandirskie
>>
>Not having a digital watch, with other functions
>Being a pretentious retard with a nondigital
>>
>>11004102
>Vostok
>reliable
Mine is wildly and randomly inaccurate.
>>
>>11004125
Where'd it come from? If you got it from eBay, any seller the isn't zenitar, especially a Ukrainian one, is probably selling you a "vintage" frankenwatch that they're claiming is far older than it actually is
>>
>>11004140
It was Zenitar.
>>
>>11004125
wildly and randomly inaccurate doesn't sound right. Mine consistently gains a couple seconds a week (pretty impressive given its at least 25 years old), that's it. what's yours do?
>>
>>11004174
Usually gains 5-10s/day, not a huge issue but every so often (once or twice a month) it will run 2-3min fast in a single day. Really strange, would cost more to have a watch maker regulate it than to buy a new one though...

Blue Zissou, NIB from Zenitar. Probably just a dud.
>>
>>11002885
>dw5600, best watch ever made

Damn, man. You just made me read reviews on Amazon for like 20 mins. I think this is exactly the kind of watch I want...

Assuming it's not too big on the wrist. I want something discreet. Might actually buy it... And I haven't worn a watch since my early teens...
>>
>>11004261
It's the smallest g-shock
>>
>>11003950
Just picked up the same one. Thinking about putting a black/red nato in it
>>
>>11004454
Nice. I've been waiting for my strap to deteriorate enough to justify buying a nato. Post that thing when you get it
>>
>tfw will probably never earn enough to be able to afford a rolex
>>
>>11004489
$50/week for 4 years EZPZ
>>
>>11004512
But there are so many other things to save up for, cars and houses etc, it would be ridiculous to blow that kind of money on a watch if I wasn't very well off
>>
>>11004561
>cars
Just walk
>houses
only buy 1 and make it a reasonable size, you don't need 2000sqft.
>>
Any thoughts?
>>
>>11004574
>only buy 1
>>
>>11001799
that seiko is actually pretty nice and decent looking, when buying a watch I have always skipped it as an option because of poor pics like these >>11000827
>>
>>11004102
Stop believing everything you read on the internet, little faggot. You recommended low quality.
>>
>>11004561
Proper money management and you'll be able to afford all those things.

A rolex was designed specifically for people like you.
It's not meant to be a frivolous, impulsive purchase.
The logo is a coronet because the founder wanted his watches to be earned, like a self-pat on the back to commemorate some personal victory.
>"A crown for every achievement"
Used to be the slogan.

Graduation from a top university with honors.
Promotion at work.
Marriage.

That sort of shit. Once nice thing is a generally middle of the road life.

How do you think all the thousands of middle class people buy any of their shit?

They save, they delineate their priorities properly. And, every once and a while, they'll buy something nice for themselves if they can spare it AND NOT SUFFER STUPIDLY BUY BUYING MATERIAL GOODS.
You never want to buy something you can't afford to just lose spontaneously. Sinking that amount of money into something that would truly hurt you financially is of course retarded.

I'm sure there's plenty of tards out there that go crazy with plastic and get in way over their heads.

First step is to cut out shit you currently spend money on that you don't need to spend money on.
Delay your gratification.

Are all invicta watches tacky? The ones with hundreds of subdials and eight different colours of metal on the strap are of course but some of the more restrained ones look okay to me

my choice so far:

orient defender (steel or nato) or Seiko SNZG07 (khaki background and nylon nato)

both are 100m automatics and both are day date which were the requirements for me. I wanted a beautiful field dial but all I got was that bulky Orient Pilot (btw its the same size at orient defende -42mm, but pilot dial makes it extra bulky looking, if it were 40 I would go Orient Pilot)

thoughts?
