Hey there for this look I would suggest starting with completely wet hair then blow drying with a round brush or at least a vented brush into this shape (a round bristled brush will help get the curl out of your hair). Then once your hair is 50-75% dry you can start adding product for hold. Pomade (for a shiny look) or wax (for a matte look) are good options for this style try to stay away from gel as it gets very hard and can be too crusty for a look like this. Continue shaping blow drying and adding product until your disired shape is achieved (You can add hairspray for extra hold at the end). In my experience shampoo doesn't make much of a difference its your ability to shape the hair while blow drying it. If you are seriously wanting to go for this look and do have quite curly hair you may want to consider having it chemically straightened which would make styling much easier.
