Americana involves young vintage slick chrome white american prince style. That is what cool kids would wear during th 50s/60s. "Would Fonzy wear this?" can answer the question in most cases.

Anyway, you should just buy basics. Buying a style is not the way you go.
Basics involve timeless, simple pieces of clothing.

Simple single colored t-shirts
Jeans and Chinos("Khakis")
Sneakers(Search for iconic sneakers, like Converse Chuck Taylors, Adidas Stan Smith Classic 80s)
Some brown boot(Desert boots are entry level and their popularity fluctuates throughout decades, always timeless)

That should do for Basic Wardrobe where you can build upon.
