Drop hoodies altogether, only wear non-printed tees. No distressed jeans, no black buttoned shirts (black shirt is clubwear, not datewear). What does that leave you? A hell of a lot. My recommendations for steps up:

- Military inspired pieces (camo is generally a turnoff though)
- Soft, natural fabrics - flannels and linens go a long way
- Corduroy and moleskin - only go for all cotton, blends and stretch waistbands are for old people
- Plaid shirts with simple palettes - overwrought plaids belong to prep
- Basically any shoes that aren't gym shoes
