Cuba is an awful example of socialism so I understand your hatred for the word. It's very, very far from the moderate forms of it (ie social liberalism/democracy) made famous by Scandinavia and practiced to varying degrees by most of Europe.

And before you people start talking about Swedistan; no, extreme refugee policies is not a staple of scandinavian socialism. It's a very recent thing originating from near neo-liberalism and dishonest journalism. Social democracy is probably one of the ideologies that has the most reason to stay away from mass immigration (lest there are issues in the country, like the working class shrinking in favour of an over-educated middle-class) due to its welfare systems and the power its unions give to the workers. Mass immigration (unless it happens because of the previously mentioned exception) floods the market with unskilled, low wage labour which weakens the unions because foreigners aren't prone to join the them, which in turn strengthens the corporate leaders of the free market* and leads to a general decline in the standard of living for the working class.

* - yes, the free market is an incredibly important aspect of social democracy. With the exception of some state monopolies that exist to benefit the people rather than create a Comcast-esque situation where corporations that are only concerned with profit will abuse their position.
