For anyone looking for fragrance suggestions, give as much information as possible about what you want. Helpful info could include sex, price range, climate/season, use (work/clubbing/etc.), notes/families you like/dislike, and other perfumes you've tried and liked/disliked.

>Notes I like: Anything, really. There's nothing I innately dislike. But I will put emphasis on a GOOD plum fragrance (Think Atelier d'Orient Plum Japonais or Bond No. 9's Andy Warhol , but I'm willing for anything.
>Tried and liked: Comme des Garcons - 2, Comme des Garcons - Sherbet Cinnamon/Rhubarb, CB I Hate Perfume - At The Beac 1966, CB I Hate Perfume - Damp Mittens and Dollhead, Heeley - Sel Marin, Bond No. 9 - Andy Warhol (the discontinued one), Etat Libre d'Orange - Tom of Finland, Jasmine et Cigarette

Aldehydes is god-like on my skin, but the problem is the shit is very "old lady" like and I'm 18 and a guy, so people would probably be turned off. But anything similar to the ones I like would be good, or anything "unique" without being Secretions Magnifiques or something

I got a good deal on a 6.7 oz bottle from a trade.
Not gonna lie, although basic as hell, this smells great.

How much can I sell decants for? I've only used about 5% of the bottle. Maybe I can make some extra money to fun my other fragrance purchases.

well at decantshop, it's going for $3/mL

But I also have to calculate S+H, as well as eBay fees. This is what's confusing me about how much to sell

>want something to match my style which is rugged/casual, I have a beard but I'm not into the flannel bacon beardbro lifestyle so don't worry
>not too overpowering, but something that can be noticed as I walk by, something that would make a girl think "oh he smells good" (I typically wear cologne for myself, not others, I'm just saying it would be nice if this scent could generate that thought)
>something suitable for Winter and cold days
>I usually like Earthy scents, wood, etc. but again I am open to anything that matches my description + is decent for Winter, for instance if there are citrus notes I would be willing to try it

... and only 2 people replied, but a couple suggestions stuck out to me. One was dsquared Potion (edp), the other was LIDG (L'Instant de Guerlain). Is anyone familiar with either, or perhaps both? Anyone have other suggestions to match the description I gave?
>>

$50 is a hard price anon for woods. Try Encre Noire. Maybe DSquared2 He Wood or He Wood Rocky Mountain Wood.

If you can spare some cash here are some:
- Comme des Garcons Series 2 Red Sequoia
- Comme des Garcons Wonderwood
- Diptyque Tam Dao
- Comme des Garcons Hinoki
- Comme des Garcons 2 MAN
- Chanel Sycomore
- Sonoma Scent Studio Winter Wood

Im obviously biased to CdG so theres that.

My fragrance obsession actually started after my only and favorite fragrance at the time, an almost empty 4.2 oz bottle of discontinued Crabtree & Evelyn Vetiver EdT, was confiscated by the screener at Zurich airport and I started trying to find a replacement. I still don't understand why they go by the size of the bottle rather than the amount of liquid inside it. Funny, I have since found a bottle on eBay and I almost never wear it, even though it's a great scent.
>>
>>10886634
Hey Anon, I was the one who suggested Potion and I still think that one would be perfect. L'Instant is also a great pick, could potentially come off too mature for you but it's definitely worth trying, it's a phenomenal fragrance. I'll still stick with all other suggestions I gave you:
Bentley for Men Intense
Bentley for Men Absolute (didn't originally list this but it's apparently very similar to Gucci Pour Homme which gets compared to CDG 2 Man which I see you have and like)
Fan di Fendi Pour Homme
Bvlgari Man In Black
John Varvatos Vintage
L'Occitane Eau des Baux
Dsquared2 He Wood Rocky Mountain Wood

OK, this maybe sound like stupid question but I would be thankful for your help. Well I want to buy my first designer perfume, Dior Homme Intense. So my concern is that I read in reviews that this fragrance is only for " businessman-suit " type of clothes. So, I would like to know is that true or I could pull it off in my non-businessman type of clothing (for example; regular black jeans, sneakers, turtlenecks, bomber jackets, long coats etc)

imo yes. while perfume is a fashion accessory, i think it works largely independent from one's fit/style

average on split forums is $15-20 for 10 ml of aventus, so that could definitely be real.

Yes. Pretty much any fragrance can work for any situation as long as it works on your skin, that's all that really matters at the end of the day. Some fragrances just give off a different image because it's popular among the people that cultivate that image.

Alright family, I've been using Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male for a few years but my dad decided to hog my fucking bottle, and I'm thinking of switching to another fragrance.

I'd like something similar, perhaps a little more summer-y, and that smells more.

Also note that Le Male smells a lot more on my dad than on me, and that I've tried Channel Allure Homme Sport and some Kenzo fragrance before and I didn't like them. The Channel one is way too aggressive for my taste.
>>
>>10888542

Any recommendations for someone who likes Loccitane's Eau des Baux and Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme?
>>
>>10888498
Straight up mall tier, not deserving to be in the Homme line. Surprised you didn't like Sport and Cologne, both of those are excellent. I'd suggest giving them another chance. Maybe check out Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche? Has that same smooth & classy vibe as Dior Homme
>>
>>10888542
This is EXACTLY what you are looking for
>>
>>10888925
I don't know. I love the Iris in DH and just didn't get any of that in Sport (a bit more in Cologne). Maybe it's because I dislike citrus. Anyway, I've read there's more DH "DNA" in Eau. I'll check out Edition Blanche.

Also, general not-citrus summer fragrance advice?
>>
Where do I go to sample and smell good perfumes? I have no idea where to start
>>
>>10888797
Well the idea of a split is that somebody buys the biggest quantity available - take a TF private blend for example.
To get yourself 50ml at retail is £145 (retail): £2.9/ml

A 250ml decant, however is £330 (retail): £1.32/ml.

I don't know where I should begin looking or what stores have bottles that I could smell. Want to find a cologne that I can wear as a signature though. If it's relevant I smoke a little
>>

Terre D'Hermes is a start. Smells like a day out in the forest.
>>
>>10889020
Sounds a lot like Terre D'Hermes, EDT most likely (am partial to EDP): citrus opening before developing to almost all of your stated tastes. Commonly mentioned in these threads, but for good reason (that said not too common on people in your daily life either).

Sephora has it; depending on your location, a Macy's might carry it. More likely Nordstrom or Bloomingdale's though.
>>
>>10889029
Ehe, for my expensive fragrances I compromise my lust for the nice bottles and see if i can get a 50ml sample size split. Have gotten 50ml Tom Ford for like £70, legit stuff.

Ok guys, I need your opinion right here.
So what to buy
Encre Noir or Desquared rocky mountain (If I can buy both for 30€) I dont have a wood scent in my (relativl) new collection and I need to go with one of them . What holds longer ? What smells better?
>>
>>10889238
I'm assuming you've smelt them? You really should before copping. If not, Rocky Mountain Wood is the safer choice.
>>
>>10889253
no I havent, since they are both so cheap and a test-scent with 1mm would cost about 3-4€, which isnt worth I guess
>>
>>10889297
don't blind buy, lalique sends free samples if you email them
>>
>>10889297
There's a reason you won't see anyone here advicing you to blind-buy. It looks like you're in a rush to create a collection. Believe me when I tell you you'll be stuck with a bunch of fragrances you never wear, if you don't already love what you're gonna purchase.
>>
>>10889187
Hmm. Did the http://www.fragrantica.com/ingredients-search/ and was surprised at how few scents came up. Of those, I've only smelled two. One I like: Valentino Uomo, and one I don't: Yohji Homme. VU is more of a hazelnut & chocolate gourmand, but it has some coffee & leather in there. Very nice date scent, along the lines of vintage DHI. Been meaning to check out Les Parfums de Cuir but hear it's very similar to the original A*Men, and have Michael Jordan Legend on my amazon wish list.
>>
>>10888599
>>10888932
Noted these two aswell. Thanks to the three of you guys.
>>
>>10889419
>you'll be stuck with a bunch of fragrances you never wear
Preach! I have a whole shelf of blind buys that didn't work out. I would never recommend someone do it, but I rarely take my own advice... I'd never blind buy an expensive frag, but look at it as a gamble. If it's an amount you can afford to lose, you might end up with just one more scent in your "repertoire" you can refer to, BUT there's also a chance you might find a fantastic cheapie.
>>
>>10889483
It's the curse of living in a small town for me, many frags just aren't available in stores without driving for hours. I blind bought 3 out of 4 of my fragrances. Only cheap ones but thankfully I like all of them a lot.
>>

Weird, I actually get zero of the Dior Homme DNA in Eau, feels like Dior just pulled it out of thin air whereas Sport (the 2012 reformulation that is) definitely has the iris note. >>
>>10886738
ok so I've been using Versace Oud Noir and ive been enjoying it

I disagree with all the longevity problems. I put a small amount of unscented lotion on my neck before I apply and I smell it all day(I do have dry skin so the lotion does help).. I couldnt say on the siliage because I feel like its the kind of scent people wouldnt even comment on, and I have yet to cozy up w a girl or just ask one about that scent in particular. Longevity is quite fine for me. Easily worth more than what I paid for it in my honest opinion

And i'm also hearing that the scent is not so much Oud and I am seeing this to be true because I've just received an Aoud sample pack from Montale most of what is contained is almost nothing close to what I want.

Personally I'm quite reserved. I need a woody scent I think.I go clubbing sometimes, with friends, I have friends who are DJs, I go to parties but I am not the one getting "live" although i can go on a rant or two if ive got enough substances in me.

basically, i am a mild person with some intense facial qualities.. I am not in your face, I like to read and would love to discuss film or anything if anyone around this city were even smart enough to have a conversation that didnt simply fizzle out (all smart people are away at colleges i think...)

I'm tired of sampling, made a couple blind buys that I regretted, i think what I am looking for is in the woody category. Among the samples, Ive enjoyed some of the scents with musk but its more just that it excites me,, and not so much something id want to smell like... maybe

so you, or anyone, sticking with a woody vibe and going in any direction from there that doesnt have too macho of a vibe or anything, have any suggestions??? CdG? I think I can buy ONE MORE FRAGRANCE not toooo expensive please thanks :]

K. Go to the nearest Sephora and talk to one of their SAs. They can either suggest some stuff or you can just ask for up to three 2ml spray samples per visit. Barring that, any department store that doesn't give away samples will have tester bottles you can spray on yourself. You can spray each forearm by the elbow and wrist, so four total, and see how they perform on you over time. Try not to do this before class, as you will be pretty fragrant. The goal is to give a full wearing of any scent you are interested in a couple times before you make a decision and buy a bottle. If you can't get to any store, then order samples from links in OP.
>>
>>10892655
enjoying film isnt pretentious its thinking that youre the only one smart enough in your area to discuss it is.

already have you a shitload of recs (the ones with CdG) so again just sample those.

Lurk here a few threads, look up interesting stuff on Fragrantica, and then go and try them on. Take someone with you if you feel you need a second opinion and then cop whatever fragrance you enjoy.

As a general rule (that I don't always follow), don't cop blindly. Sometimes it works out, but I can't tell you the number of times I've sampled something I thought was a sure thing, only to end up hating it.

m/23 here. Enjoy various smells and want to try some new fragrances instead of sticking with my D&G the one for almost any situation. Since I'm rather new to fragrances and want something for different situations; would such a sample pack be a good place to start? Or would I be better of doing some research first and order a few samples I find interesting?

>the "Essential 13 Sample Pack - Masculine" from luckyscent
1. Amouage - Jubilation XXV
2. Comme des Garcons - Hinoki
3. Escentric Molecules - Escentric 01
4. Frank Los Angeles - No. 1
5. Indult - Reve en Cuir
6. Knize - Ten
7. Maison Francis Kurkdjian - Lumiere Noire pour Homme
8. Montale - Black Aoud
9. Naomi Goodsir - Bois d'Ascese
10. Parfums de Nicolai - New York
11. Parfums MDCI - Invasion Barbare
12. Puredistance - M
13. Xerjoff - Nio

I wouldn't call over half that list "essential." Plus, if I were going to pay $5 per 0.7ml sample, I'd want to chose each one myself. I assume you're wealthy, as several of those are among the most expensive fragrances one can buy. In which case, go nuts.

Based Jubi is perhaps the only essential there. Maybe MFK or Escentric Molecules.

Miami would be a better shot for interesting people but then everyone hates everyone there and is absolutely stuck up. And I'm not saying I couldn't meet people there but its just so far and difficult, I dunno, I just assumed that if I gave a bit more about myself someone would find some merit in it and recommend some super secret amazing fragrance or somethign I dont know. I guess I was being overzealous but I already do have friends and know tons of people.

Just picked this up since it was just discontinued and can still be found for a reasonable price. It's interesting, upon first spray it's very woody, almost too sharp and mature for me but it settles down quickly into a beautiful, powdery sweet tobacco & cardamom scent that really reminds me of Dolce & Gabbana's The One. I haven't been able to give it a full wearing yet so I can't comment on the performance but reviews say it's great

Interlude - I've had this for a while. Love the spicy opening, smoky as shit already from the beginning.
Jubilation - First time ever trying. The blackberry is heavy and I love it. A bit flowery and sweet. No oud detected yet. Interested in how it dries down.

Any fragrances you guys would consider "futuristic"?

Costume National Cyber Garden

Thanks for the feedback. I can't wear anything stronger or polarizing because of my work (Terre is already pushing it) but I like to keep a rotation going.

I'm thinking of Dior Homme next.
>>
Also -- is Creed Royal Oud any good? Descriptions say it's spicy and woody and dry, all of which I like (would love to smell like a library and lacquered wood). Not really looking for strong oud.

As reference I like the dry woodyness of MI (reminds me of old paper) and Aventus minus the pineapple.
>>
>>10902066
I don't think it's possible for anybody to smell Dior Homme on you and have anything less than an intensely positive reaction. Unbelievably good fragrance for the price.
Possibly a bit sexy, seductive and night-timey for work though.
>>
>>10902081
i think creed is the brand that insecure teenagers flock to once they get their first paycheck and "decide" to start dressing better

then the next weekend they're at express buying clothes for the club
>>
>>10902939
I think it's overrated. Still have to test it a few more times but so far my reaction was pretty meh.
>>
>>10902972
Yeah it is massively hyped so you've quite possibly just run into all the positive talk about it without experiencing how it feels to wear around a lot. Is honestly great though. Grew on me a lot from first testing and not being massively keen to now owning a bottle.
People hype up the intense version a lot, never been for me but might be worth checking out.

>>

my gf snapped up the volutes (sorry). works surprisingly well on her, but much more potent, a little harsh on her (compared to my skin).

given wonderwood is now at sephora (eh), i'd do a trade for a comparable cdg sent (incense series?) or maybe we can set up a split?

i want to try, daily use for awhile, creed/bois du portugal, a few of the histoires des parfumes, etc.

My tastes do certainly skew toward the mature, but "younger" scents are generally on the sweet side and less interesting to me. And every single one of those, save the Montale have been complimented by younger women.
>>
>>10915448
I obviously like it, but I wouldn't call it a crowd pleaser. It is fascinating though. The amber and jasmine tea create an odd darkness that is compelling. I get the same vibe from Cruel Intentions, if you've tried that.

Has anyone tried Guerlain Songde d'un bois d'ete? Literally is the smell of heaven- I've been going back t Selfridges so often for a whiff they recognize me. Finally copped a 10ml decant I'm going to keep forever and use sparingly.

It's a true masterpiece. Try it if you get the chance.

>>10915654
Mature is an understatement. Pour Monsieur is what the person who coined the phrase "old man smell" had in mind.
>>
Does anyone have any particular recommendations on CB I Hate Perfume? I'm looking to get one of the absolute perfumes, maybe In the Library or Burning Leaves. If anyone knows about either of these scents or any other good scents from CB I'd appreciate it.
>>
>>10915904
Agreed. The original PM is way too powdery and old mannish for me. PMC is quite different but still has about as much of that musty kind of lavender as I can stand. Other frags that are feel too old even for me: The Third Man, Caron Pour un Homme, Grey Flannel, Azzaro pour Homme, Habit Rouge, Givenchy Gentleman... It seems that either a powdery feel, or too much musty lavender or anise are my dislikes in fragrance. Oddly enough I love Agua Lavanda, but that is more of the zesty version of lavender that I enjoy.

Absolutely terrible, musty af and the only perfume in which I honestly think age makes a difference: you better be in your 60s at least

Someone told me recently told me that you can ask for samples of fragrances at department stores. How do they give you said samples?
>>
I wanna know about some cheap websites to get some colognes that smell like the "real" stuff. Because if you haven't realized by now that designer colognes are just a marketing scheme (costs about 2€ to produce the liquid in that D&G bottle) and a cheap €5 cologne is enough to get the ladies asking about your amazing cologne (and I'm not talking about trailor trash women either. People who think they can distinguish between an expensive and a cheap cologne or that "expensive ones last longer and have less health risks" are full of shit) So yeah.. Where do you guys order cheap shit?
>>
>>10922216
They take the bottle and pour it into a sampler.
>>
>>10922219
Fragrancenet.

Realistically you can just look for high quality but cheap scents anywhere.
>>
>>10922219

You can try getting on splits as well. There's a few forums or even reddit. I also do sites like Fragrancenet (these fuckers sign you up for magazines) or places like that.
>>
>>10922219
Armaf makes clones of popular fragd
>>
>>10922219
I've never had a cheap fragrance that lasted more than average time. Highly concentrated EDPs just last longer, it's how it is. And that's usually the more expensive ones. Not that there aren't expensive fragrances that have shit longevity.
And who complains about health risks? That's the first I've ever heard that.

Spring is just a couple months away, so I'm gonna sample a bunch of warm weather scents.

Rec your best, /frag/
>>
>>10925395
solo loewe is underrated in my opinion

the subtle guava tone is really nice, good for all year but best when it's warm
>>
>>10924087
Joop! 50ml 12€, lasts lojger then any other fragrance I have
>>
>>10926163
I was thinking of Joop! as a nice spring fragrance, together with:

Sun Jill Sander
L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme or
Boss Bottled (old classic it's so good)
or David Beckham Intimately (another old one I had before but I like it alot)

Any suggestions?

U wot? It's the middle of summer.

hi all,
looking to sample some new perfumes. am girl, i don't mind scents that are unisex or even leaning towards masculine. don't have a lot of options around here (Aus) so mainly designer (or department store tier) recs would be nice. don't put too much thought into what to recommend i just want to know what i should have tried and smelled before :)

What's a decent Winter to Spring transition scent? I was going to spend some money on something more specifically suited for Winter (was considering dsquared Potion), but since the weather has been crazy this year and often warmer than usual, I felt it might be a waste to get something only for Winter. Is there anything in between that would cater to both the colder weather and the eventual Spring-like warm up? And some more info, if it helps:

>26
>male
>would like the scent to be casual, not too overbearing, mainly for daytime wear at work or just going out
>I like woodsy, Earthy scents because I feel it matches my style / personality, but I wouldn't mind it having citrus notes... in the end I'm open to trying whatever, though
>decent projection would be nice, even though I wear scents for myself I do enjoy walking by someone or standing next to someone and getting a "wow you smell good" compliment
>right now I wouldn't want to invest in anything over $50
>>

what website is that
>>
>>10929293
http://www.basenotes.net/bn_todaysscent.php

Funny, for such a clunkier designed site, I find BN's wardrobe and SotD functions much better than Fragrantica's. I prefer FG's detail on each frag's notes and preferred season, however. I'd love a Greasemonkey script that would meld the two's data, but haven't found one yet.

>>10911497
Glad you like it, anon! Every time I wear it I think why don't I wear this more often... And to my nose, it is similar to Bulgari Black, just add more smoky vanilla, and Midnight in Paris, just add anise and make it creamier.

You might try these, in order from easiest to wear to most challenging.
360º Black for Men
Terre d'Hermès
Guerlain Vetiver
Havana
Encre Noire
>>
Alternative to One Million? Preferably something easy to find.

I love the opening but it dries down too sweet and boring.
>>
>>10931607
Sampled Guerlain L'Homme Ideal and that's been quoted as being quite aliked One Million, and I kinda agree.
Turned into a fucking mess on my skin though. I highly suggest sampling it. Not for me.
>>
>>10931618
Thanks. Already tried Ideal and there's something in it that gave me headaches.
>>
>>10931629
Same here dude. It's not a nice fragrance. It might be the almond in it, but I think they really fucked up.
