Looking for anyone here with experience signing modelling contracts. I just got offered one by a fairly new agency, and while it seems like a legit high fashion agency im not sure what to think about the contract, anyone here who can help me understand what a 'normal' modelling contract should look like as well as go over the general terms/conditions with me? Would help a lot.
>>
How did you build up your portfolio? Tips pls f a m
>>
how about you post what you think is questionable from your contract
>>
If you have to pay for photos and shit, it's a scam.
>>
>>10844783
i didnt, i got scouted a few times

>>10844814
Alright, first of all it's an exclusive contract, there's no mention of the percentage of pay they get from me, also it says its a 9 month deal after which it will turn into a contract with ''undetermined length''. I am translating this stuff to english and im p sure there was some other stuff that i cant remember right now.
>>
>>10844832
not necessarily. Model ''schools'' are for sure scams, but getting testshoots done and building up portfolios is usually paid for 50/50, either up front or withheld from your first paycheck(s)
>>
>>10844919
Do you have friends/people you know who have done law school or doing law school? Ask them to review it, you won't get any good legal advice on this shit board.
>>
>>10844930
No, unfortunately. I guess it was a long shot to ask on here but you never know. I don't think it's a scam at all, just have a feeling it's a shit deal. For instance it says somewhere that once my contract is up they will count up the remaining differences from the jobs i pulled to the work they put in me and it might actually cost me money. I don't know if this is a normal way of preventing people to like no-show jobs or if its just a way to fuck some model they dont like out of money.
>>
dude, just post the contract here, I'll review it

if it's not in english, translate as much as you can, otherwise we can't help you
>>
>>10844958
its like 9 pages of dutch, but alright ill post some of the more important pages if i can
>>
>>10844963
Waar ben je gescout? Puur uit interesse
>>
>Signing this contract means you give us exclusivity to represent you for 9 months. In this period you are signed exclusively to our agency. You can end the collaboration 9 months after signing this contract. If you decide to end the collaboration within this time, we will charge you for the costs we made for representing you. After 9 months the agreement will transform into an agreement of undetermined time.

Its really quite hard to translate this shit, but this part in particular is confusing as fuck to me. I can end the agreement after 9 months, but it also automatically turns into a agreement of undetermined time?? Also again no mention of percentages paid. I really hope some dutch law fag can review this shit for me.

>>10844978
1 keer in a'dam, vorige week tijdens werk in den haag.
>>
>>10844984
Zoiets dacht ik al, succes kerel. Misschien eens aan een vriend/kennis/familielid met ervaring in contracten laten zien
>>
>>10844984
>I can end the agreement after 9 months, but it also automatically turns into a agreement of undetermined time?.

Don't know about modeling and dutch law, but as far as I know, that's a pretty standard practice overall.

Basically you have a 9 month contract that automatically turns into an undetermined time contract after that. You can then end it with some notice period specified in the agreement.
>>
>>10844984

dude, definitely scam. They can post one photo session of you on their dingy catalog/site that nobody sees/visits, and then after nine months charge you 10,000$ or alternatively have indeterminate rights to representing you, forever.

if there is no mention of %s mentioned anywhere in the contract, that implicitly means you're not getting anything. Of course, that is against one of the three basic principles of EU law, you have to get SOMETHING out of the contract. Otherwise it's unenforceable.

I suspect they put in a tiny commission, or a tiny amount of cash somewhere. Try and find the specific wording. What do YOU get out of the contract? What are your specific obligations, besides handing out rights? What are their obligations?

Btw 9 pages is way too long. They're probably attempting to hide a hook somewhere in the text.
>>
>>10844984
Welk bureau heeft je gevraagd?
>>
go to them (better than doing it over e-mail) and ask what % you get. if they don't anwser the question, then its a scam and you can forget about it. if they say something, tell them to add it to the contract otherwise you'll walk away.

90% of the time if its smells like a scam, its a scam. huamn intuition is pretty damn good
>>
>>10845005
They do mention obligations of finding work but idk how much that means, thanks dude.

>>10845007
eerst iamelk, nu knownmodels. het is een nieuw bureau van vormalige scouts

>>10845019
again, dont think its a money scam for multiple reasons, but i do think the contract is very unfavourable.
>>
>>10845038
scams arent necessarily just a pure money-grab.
they will probably give you something for your work (otherwise you could sue them) but it's a question of whether they'll charge you like hell for headshots/handeling
>>
>>10845046
Yeah thats basically my problem with it, its way too vague
>>
>>10845038
unless there is a clause for mediation, which i doubt there is, a nebulous obligation to find you work doesn't mean much. You need specifics put in. How much work, forbidden types of work (i.e. dangerous, strenuous, long hours, gay porn, etc.), at what minimum rate, what penalty do they incur if they fail to fulfill their obligations. That last bit is important and can save you a bunch of legal expenses.
>>
>>10845050
well i don't know the buisiness, but i'd try and go ask them questions about the contract (maybe even recording the converstaion with your cellphone secretly [is this legal???]). or find people other models on FB or instagram and ask them about their experience
>>
>>10845038
Hoezo ga je niet naar dat bureau dat je eerst gevraagd hebt? Of je zegt tegen het bureau dat je het contract niet helemaal duidelijk vindt
>>
>>10845056
Thanks yo
