I've been thinking about getting this haircut for a while, I have semi long hair and when I pull it into a bun in the back and let the sides down I feel like it accentuates my face a lot better. But I'm paranoid that I'll get it and it won't look as good so I never commit

You grow it out. Once its long enough, it will eventually fall towards the sides. There is an awkward phase though where you hair falls to either side but it's still too short so you kind of look like pic (but with hair on the sides)

I'm the same boat as you m8. Had a receding scare after I saw a couple of threads on here then went back and looked at old pictures and realized I had had the same hairline the entire time.
