My hair has a curl to it that will not settle down. My hair looks like this even after I brush it. Hair wax does not help much. Should I just straighten my hair or is there a hair style that works for me?

I'm a senior in hs and look like a freshman and have a shit haircut.
Have lost almost 10 pounds the past few weeks and have started going on /fit/ and I plan on lifting in a couple weeks. I use Murray's because I can't justify spending 30 dollars on a petroleum derived hair product. It's oil based so if you don't take care of your hair and wash it all out, it will accumulate and look disgusting.
