Is there such a thing as "affordable" techwear? I mean stuff that costs in the 100 to 400$ range rather than thousands? I'm somewhere between poorfag and richfag...

Also, does commuterwear count as techwear?
>>
Any good stores in Toronto or Montréal to buy a good autumn coat?
I'm looking for something that's breathable, warm and highly water/wind resistant; professional/urban look (so no outdoors stuff); easy care, and high neck cover.

Thanks.
>>
>>10720523
affordable techwear is basically hiking or sports brand, you'll have to be careful with what you chose

I'm trying to put together a wardrobe of technical clothing, this is what I've got planned out, do you think I could mix up the colours somewhat or stay as they are? My goal is to have a wardrobe I can fit into half of my backpack and wear around the planet.

I love tactical style clothing but I'm trying to stay clear of it as well as the whole ninja look.
>>
>>10720225
>several thousand dollars in clothing
>30 dollar shoes
If this is techwear, then I better start wearing my engineered Dickies fits
>>
>>10720647
Throw some green or navy in there. Fits the aesthetic very well.
>>
>>10720647
Also, long underwear, dude. And maybe some better boots. If you want top-of-the-line, will-never-shit-out boots, look into Asolo.

>>
>>10720523
Isaora, Nike ACG, Outlier, Arc'teryx, Stone Island Shadow Project, assorted sport/hiking stuff that fits the aesthetic. etc.

The only thing you're honestly going to be spending big money on is a hardshell, and even then ~$1000 isn't a terrible investment for a quality jacket.

Everything else can be had for a decent enough price, unless you run out and buy qasas or some stupid shit like that.

Does anyone in these threads care about Schoeller Nanosphere fabrics or Primaloft Gold in 100/gsm or how nice the C-KNIT Gore-Tex is on Arc'teryx's new items or is it just about cyberpunk mercenary cosplay

milsurp items are extremely affordable and provide adequate protection from the elements and most tech brands take inspo from military pieces. just size down when checking them out.

however, it's getting cold out here, need to start wearing proper socks and gloves
>>
>>10723145

Why are you on a roof?

Are you Russian?
>>
>>10723175
It's the new thing to do among teenagers now
Though usually the pics are taken so that you are sitting on the edge of the roof at night cause that's more edgy and cool
Also more points to techwear fits cause you are like doing urban exploring or whatever the fuck which gives off the vibe that your whole lifestyle is true to the tech aesthetic
>>10721583
I don't think there are many people here who are actually that in to this whole aesthetic. It's more like they see this seems trendy at the moment and easy enough to get in to so people just hop on cause why not.
I don't think I have ever seen good techfits posted on these threads and for the most part people are discussing how to look the part with budget, which speaks magnitudes on just how invested people are to this stuff.
>>
>>10723202
On the point about no good fits... I do see really amazing techfits but never here. Usually it's other places namely sufu and ig. I just think /fa/, especially in the last couple years, has become more of a trend-chasing board than anything.

But yeah, affordable techwear or budget techwear is a joke. Basically like putting a body kit on your civic and calling it a racecar.

>But yeah, affordable techwear or budget techwear is a joke. Basically like putting a body kit on your civic and calling it a racecar.
I don't think that's really true, but the issue is that people are just trying to adapt the style as easily and effortlessly as possible, there is no thought behind it or actual effort to understand what it takes to look the part.
And that is not to say everyone should look like cyberpunk hacker ninja, there is so much potential and room within the style. Seems just that people see these threads, think "yeah this should be easy" and come to these threads asking where to buy cheap slim cargos.
In a way these kinda "generic" techwear fits are probably what is holding the whole thing back, no one bothers to do anything else or do research about things other than the most superficial level.
>>
>>10723627
Maybe there needs to be a brands list or references in each techwear thread. Wasn't that the case a while back?
>>
>>10723646
ill be posting fits soon, been looking around a lot for techcore stuff and i think iv got some good sets. trouble is i have no decent mirrors :/ might have to go full autistic and use my timed shops on my sony cam outside
>>
>>10723646
I feel like people should just really think about the basics, like what makes something techwear. When you start from there, finding brands is suddenly very easy when you understand what it is that you want from dressing like this.
I guess brand list could help but, again, I feel like people who are new to this would just end up too stuck on the narrow mindset of what are the 'real' or 'accepted' brands and what is the one techwear look everyone should aim at.
But really if you feel it's something that would be beneficial, just do it.

I've been wondering about the quality of the SFBs myself. I want something for fall/winter/spring in an urban environment; decently warm for the northern usa, decently waterproof, decently good for walking around the city, etc... Don't need anything crazy functional for like trekking through snow for miles or anything.

I am considering these magnums as well as the nike SFB. Those Haixs seem of a similar style. Does anyone have any recs?

>>
>>10728863
There are two main differences (at least for the more casual jackets) wich may not be so obvious if you haven't tried them on jet: Length and ventilation. Their greek letter range differs mostly in jacket length. If you want shorter jackets, look as alpha/beta, for longer ones look at theta/zeta. The tradeoff between lifestyle and allround jackets is style vs ventilation. Lifestyle jackets are more sleek and have less pronounced branding, but lack armpit ventilation. To me that matters a lot, you have to figure it out for yourself. The zeta is softer and less noisy than all other hardshells I tried. Also check the fit, the alpha is pretty wide while the zeta is slim.

tl;dr: Check length and fit, balance style against ventilation/functionality
>>
>>10728851
I have them. If you're looking for a standard running shoe with decent aesthetics (imo) these are great. Don't expect too many compliments tho

the aesthetics called "techwear" is for big cities with rain and wind. Google "cyberpunk", you will find images of big, rainy cities. Thats where it comes from. It doesn't work in the desert, jungle or the cosy village.

It also comes from outdoor and military gear, that is made to look stylish. The most common challenge for outdoor gear is repelling water while permitting sweat to leave and being durable and lightweight. Those are features you can hope to find in techwear.

It would be interesting though to see a desert techwear fit, I can definitely imaging one. Long, drapy layers, light colors mixed with black elements.

While they certainly look like Qasa rip offs, they seemingly have a nice aesthetic and I think look a bit better than Yohji's offerings.

Also, the lows, apparently called "Tubular Viral"

Anyway, I'm not sure how "techwear" these are in terms of actual performance wear, as judging by my two pairs, is like wearing two pieces of granite. If you want more techwear performance stuff, Nike and more running focused shoes are your best bet.

They certainly look the part however, much like the Qasas.

I suppose I am really no different in that sense than all the young people (I'm 24) re-enacting a late twentieth century subculture in an attempt to be "authentic"... When the whole point is that I am drawn to the "futurist" aesthetic of the music and the clothes as a way forward out of our current cultural stagnation. No good answers I guess

Yes, of course. Give me some guidelines and I'll make something up for you like pic related, which I just felt like making for the thread since a lot of people are travelling now, though it's a bit too late to help anyone probably.

>>10720647
Looks good, and you got some good advice. Danner is fine but those boots veer way too close to #menswear shit for my taste. Avoid the TAD baselayers - the tacticool ethos oozes even into them, and the cut is subpar. Check Kuiu for maybe the best wool baselayer fabric around in similar colors.

Also, what's the jacket? It looks hella familiar but I can't place the logo.

>>10720672
Oh come off it. Dickies are actually great low budget techwear, especially the ones with gussets, especially if you can get them tapered. The polycotton twill is all around excellent: tough, holds deep color, drapes and feels well for what it is, dries fast, and the Teflon finish works well.

And Vans are Vans, simple basic classic work/playhorse shoes. If you've paid any attention at all to Errolson, you'd know 1) he DGAF about whether something is "tech" or not and 2) he genuinely loves Vans slipons, like a lot of people who really get garments.

Finally, elitism especially over money is disgusting.

>>10721583
Fuck yes, although I've been away for a while.

>>10723627
Excellent post. Also like fuck body kits generally, but Civics are genuinely good workhorse cars. When I drove regularly, I almost always owned late '90s Civics, with the double wishbone suspension, and the handling was super snappy and you could coax great gas mileage out of them.

I'll respond to more of the thread later.

Just scrolling down I have to comment on this - Guerrilla Group's designs are generally incoherent clipart design element garbage and this copy is the same shit.

>the biggest manufacturer of Nylon 6 in Asia

We went with the easy cheap option.

>ECOYA ... and low pollution among the many

And we bought their recycled fabric, to make it even cheaper, and so we could hype the environmental benefits.

> fabric with excellent performance in regards to light-fastness, color-fastness against water, washing-fastness, anti-UV and color reproducibility

It's nylon with a UV resistant and DWR treatment!

God hell, come on.

The tubulars were designed by the guy who designed the qasa. Notably not Yohji himself.

And in regards to the 'tech' in them... they aren't really technical from a utilitarian perspective as much as from a manufacturing perspective. The neoprene and prime knit uppers, the unique EVA soles (which I understand were very hard to produce until recently), and the bonded seams on some of these make them unique.

Neat shoe, but wouldn't look good with any of my fits.

There's a decent chance your mountain climbing jacket was DESIGNED by Hugh. Acronym began as and still operates as a design consultancy. Most notably, a large portion of Tilak's lineup is designed by him, and in turn Tilak does production for lots of what Acronym makes.

Pic related, the Tilak Asgard, which he confirmed was his work on Twitter.

> some hypebeast Japanese nigger

Holy fucking hell, not only transphobic but antiblack and can't be bothered to distinguish between someone who's Japanese and someone who's a Canadian-German with Chinese-Jamaican parents. Forget the moralfaggotry, that's just sloppy af.

Seriously, though, moralfaggotry but also how just not to waste your life in externalized self-hatred: what the fuck do you think you're getting outing of disdaining everyone who isn't you? Trust me, it's not going to take you anywhere but deeper into your misery.

For the record, you're talking to someone who's 26, freelance random hustler, lives in New York City, with a full beard, who is quite satisfied with who he is and that, yes, includes spending time with black people who are sometimes on TV and wears womenswear.

One company uses him to appeal to the lucrative "buys a technical shell to walk to the store in a drizzle" demographic, so now he has some vast, industry-wide influence on gear makers? Stop taking marketing material uncritically.
>>
>>10751357
... know your history before you speak. Acronym has been around as a design consultancy since 1994 and didn't release their own apparel until 2001, with a small capsule sold as a box set that was mostly not apparel. It wasn't until the late Aughts they really had anything but cult buzz at all, and it couldn't have possibly been a mass market selling point before two maybe three years back.

AFAIK, the relationship between Acronym and Tilak hasn't been featured in marketing material from anyone, just mentioned in magazine stories, interviews, etc. Because they've been working together for well over a decade now.
>>
>>10751395
So?
>>
>>10751417
These dudes are trying to argue that Errolson Hugh doesn't know what he's doing as far as designing functional apparel, which has devolved into this subargument about his designing for one of the best climbing apparel companies somehow not mattering.

Tilak is a well-regarded company, but they're no heavyweight, and Hugh designing for them does not suggest any influence in the industry at large.
>>
>>10751442
I said best, not heavyweight.

Questions of Errolson's influence in the outdoor sector are kind of hard to answer, because he's probably done a lot of work that wasn't publicized at all. They're also beside the point, I'm not making >>10750286's argument against >>10749846 and >>10750693, which are trying to make it out like the clothes are bullshit. I'm making an argument that departs from it - like who gives a fuck if he's influenced some in house designer at Patagonia, I'm sure he has at least in some small way at some point because why wouldn't he have, the important thing is that he actually designs gear people put their lives on.

Would anybody be so kind as to recommend me some pants like these?

Are these just joggers/harem pants? I'm a lanky fuck and only loose fitting pants are comfortable/work with my body shape, I'm at a loss.
>>
>>10751454
He's probably influenced someone, because why wouldn't he have? Brilliant. Just fucking brilliant.
>>
>>10751514
Again, that's not the argument I'm having, but anyone worth their salt in any industry is going to be paying attention to what other people are doing.

I have. I like the way they look but I've actually become a bit of a sweatpant whore lately. I don't mind looking a bit plebbish, especially since I'm never gonna be ACRNM everything. I own the track pants but don't really ever wear them out unless I walk up to the store and don't feel like putting pants on. Am considering getting the Enfin Leve pants just because their design is so cool to me. I love the hidden pocket. Would never wear with chelseas tho lmao almost as bad at the Acronym shots where he's wearing checkered vans.
>>
>>10753469
hes never going to live that down lol
Take a cheekie beekie at 4dimension as well.
Joggers are what i like to use at home, would not be seen dead in any in public. mainly because im white.

Already have this bad boy on the way :)

Also, why is there such a stigma around joggers? I didn't even know half the shit I wear were considered joggers. I always just thought people started making luxurious sweatpants lol. I've only ever seen them called joggers when people say 'I would never wear joggers'.

Post skinny cuffed "techwear" pants inspo with wind breaker please

what boots? or anyone know boots similar style/color?
>>
>>10753590
Hahah, well until that gets here I'm stuck with this:

North Face Resolve Jacket
North Face E-Tips as well
Uniqlo windproof sweatpants/those Adidas track pants I posted
Adidas Sambas. All black fit as well lol.

One the jacket comes all I need are the new Tubular Dooms to drop. Hopefully between now and the Dooms coming out I can find/decide on a good pair of tech pants.

Honestly I don't think its a bad fit. I also usually have my DSPTCH shoulder bag on as well, which adds to the fit in a surplus-y type way. Do you have a fit pic by any chance? I'll post one if you do ;)

>>10753512
that jacket would go with these >>10749184

>>
>>10746595
only decent taste
>>
>>10755044
otherwise, they're good?
>>
>>10753512

I think the stigma stems from how common joggers are big in streetwear, which is everywhere, and techwear enthusiasts want to distance themselves from streetwear because we're snowflakes like that.

Also techwear has to have function, and 90% of the joggers out there offer nothing more than good mobility, which is why cargos are more commonly considered tech when done right.
>>
>>10749101
Can anyone identify the jacket he is wearing?

>>10755186
Generic black bomber.
Try Alpha Industries.
