they'll get softer as you continue to wash them, so don't worry too much. IIRC it took like three washes but the color fades pretty fast so I would avoid washing them unless they smell

Depends if you like it or not. If you don't like it you can get it tailored pretty easily. But it all depends on how it fits you and how you feel about it. Most people probably won't even notice how much of a difference it makes so I wouldn't worry so much if the coat was from zara or something.
