For anyone looking for fragrance suggestions, give as much information as possible about what you want.

Helpful info could include sex, price range, climate/season, age, style, use (work/clubbing), notes/families you like/dislike, and other perfumes you've tried and liked/disliked.

I would like a suggestion for a longer lasting 'real' perfume similar to Aqoua di Gioia.

Marine/fresh/citrusy/clean/not too sweet or flowey on dry down.

I've tried Creed Millisime Imperial but am not blown away. There has to be something better for 300$, which is my budget.

Looking for a scent
$0-100
I wear mostly black jeans or grey chino pants and mix these with black, grey, and navy knit sweaters.
I have a m65 jacket I wear regularly
I also own a blue peacoat, I wear with collar up.
I wear a grey herringbone scarf or a small cashmere cowl scarf

I wear dark leather chukkas or more usually in black shoes

Messy hair, Biology major with serious interest in photography, small interest in painting, swiming, and terrariums.

What would suit me?

I picked this up today since I found it super cheap. It's actually really nice, on first spray it reminds me of Chanel Allure Homme but quickly settles down into something quite close to La Nuit de L'Homme. Performance seems good as well, I sprayed the back of my hand at 3 and it's now 10:30 and I'm still catching whiffs of it

It's a nice light fragrance, the EDP is more critically acclaimed than the EDT. For winter/fall you can't go wrong, but it is a little more on the feminine side so be aware of that

I'm new to fragrances and just got the luckyscent unisex sample pack.
So far I've tried 10 corso como, kyoto, and l'air du desert marocain
I like 10 corso, pleasant and inoffensive. I worry a little about it leaning towards the feminine side imo.
Kyoto I also enjoy. It's not something I expect when I think of fragrances (I'm new so that's not saying much)
Desert Marocain is pretty sweet, almost cloying to me. Definitely not what was in my mind when I've seen people recommend it here.
I'm just dabbing these on my wrists and sniffing them throughout the day. Is there something I should be paying attention to?

>there is no reason to ever go above 4 if you have a good cologne.

one spritz is all you need.

spray it on your wrist, pat your wrists together, pat your neck. don't rub.

it's supposed to be a subtle scent, not an odor.

>we gotta get rid of this "style" bullshit
When I suggested that, I was thinking more of formal/casual. People describing their wardrobe is kind of funny, but I'd rather have more info than less.

>>10665907
So you would recommend Bois de Portugal or Pour un Homme to a 17 year old? Again, I don't think we can have too much information to make the best recommendations possible. I would even consider adding where you can buy frags to the recommendations post. Like can you only buy from a mall/Sephora, or are you willing to order samples/buy blind from the internet? No sense recommending a niche frag to someone who lives in Bunfuck Iowa and doesn't have a credit card.
>>
>>10666715
Then use less? And more under your clothes. Gender lines in fragrance are a marketing construct.
>>
>>10666718
Is LS still using those tiny 0.7ml tubes? A decent application is ~0.3ml and spray application is different from and preferable to dabbing. Ideally you would be able to see how it performs throughout it's drydown cycle. Top/middle/basenotes and projection/sillage. Those last ones are better detected by someone else.

I'm a male 18 y/o college freshman going to a small liberal arts school in Minnesota. I'm looking for an everyday, all season fragrance, that has a unique smell. My style is memeochrome/"effay", I try to dress simply and love subtle details other people never will notice. Currently I use Estelle Ewen In Red, which I kind of like the smell of, but it doesn't last long. I also used to Armani Sport Code, but it smelled too gaudy after using it for a bit. Like a new money version of Axe. I like lighter, fruity smells, and also the sweet, earthy, scents of tobacco and pine. I tried Bleu de Chanel in an airport and liked it, but I'd prefer something more unique. I know Guerlain makes some androgynous fragrances, and I really like the concept of those. Not looking to spend my entire savings on a fragrance, but I'm willing to spend more for something I''ll really like.
Thanks.

Looking for a new scent. I live in mostly hot, humid, sunny South Florida. I'm a 26m, currently a student teacher. Mainly looking for a daily scent type of thing. Price range is kinda jumpy. Whatever I like, I'll make sure and get. Scent is very important to me. I've been wearing acqua di gio Essenza for the past 6 months, which smells great on me, I've just gotten tired of the scent. I also wear CH Men regularly, as well as John Varvatos Vintage. I mostly use the vintage when dressing better than usual or going out.

Thanks scent based anons.
>>
>>10667708
The 'dankest' wood scent would be something like Oud Wood from Tom Ford, but that shit's expensive as hell.
>>
>>10667703
depends on the scent, though I doubt just 1 spray will sufficient to last the day or have any sort of projection

even if you just want a subtle skin scent, 1 spray will last all of a couple of hours

I'm fucking broke, and I want two fragrances. Both hopefully being able to vaguely fill in the roles that the other can't (e.g One fragrance is good for casual wear, while another is good for more formal occasions), and I need them BOTH for cheap. Preferably less than $35 for both. And yes, I don't expect anything too high tier or anything of that nature. But any way I could get something nice for really cheap would be great.

>>10667703
A good rule of thumb is 2-5 sprays depending on the fragrance. I average 3-4. I used to only do one, but no one could smell me, not even when close. It was a revelation when someone tole me I could do more, as I was deathly afraid of being "cologne guy." But quite the opposite happened: I started to get compliments where I had never gotten any before.

Not saying there are zero frags that only need one spray; I can think of a handful: Rive Gauche pH, vintage Opium, 24 Gold, maybe Chergui... But to limit yourself to one spray across the board is a waste if no one can smell it.
>>
>>10669878
by that you mean 3-4 total on yourself, right? 1-2 on wrists and 1-2 on neck, not 3 on your wrist then 3 on your neck.
>>
>>10667759
Try Guerlain's Vetiver. It's mostly a tobacco scent to my nose, but fresh as well. Plus you might smell like some chick's dad. Also try Egoiste.
>>
>>10667834
Dang I just did a rec for someone in FL last thread. Easy to get cloying in the tropical climate.

Try
Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentrée
Gucci Pour Homme II
Set Sail St. Barts for Men - might be too "tropical" for a teacher, but it's a summer favorite for me.
>>
>>10667880
I've only smelled the EdP, but from what I've read, they are actually quite similar.
>>
>>10669259
>Decent start?
If you like them it is.
>>
>>10669413
I nominate Tabac Original for the formal one, but you could wear it casually too. And 360º Red or Black for Men for the other. Should get you pretty close.
>>
>>10669890
Yes total. I do 1-2 on chest, 1 on back of neck and 1 on forearm and rub between the others. Rive Gauche pH is the only one I have to "hide" and do chest only. That shit is powerful, but great when moderated.
>>
>>10668993
That's what i did. It's cheap enough you can get a dozen different ones and learn what particular notes you like and what you don't. I found out I love amber, but hate lavender. I recommend doing this research before buying any serious $$$ frags.

Hey guys,
I'm in need of a perfume or multiple ones, here is some info:

Sex: Male

Age: 18

Climate/season: If it could be used for the whole year, that would be great, but if not, then one for winter and one for summer.

Style: Casual

Use: Daily, universitfy and stuff

Perfumes tried: I currently use Dior Fahrenheit 32 (white bottle), but I'm getting tired of, that's why I want some variety.

Perfumes liked: YSL La Nuit blackish/greenish bottle??, I loved Guerlain, some of them were GOAT.

P.S if the bottles could be like 20 or 30 ml, that would be also great, because I get bored of perfumes frequently, wouldn't be a deal breaker tho.

Thanks.

looking for a new fragrance because I've been feeling i need one lately
have pic related (rerelease obviously) and like it a lot, but it feels very wintery to me. i copped it last winter so maybe thats why i have that association.
looking for something for the opposite occasion as this, but matching this style of fragrance (semi-avant garde, interesting, subtle)
if anyone can offer any advice or suggestions at all that would be much appreciated

other info--
sex: male
price range: similar to pic related (helmut lang cuiron)
climate/season: contrast to pic related, so summer/warmer weather
age: 20
use: i would say universal. I feel like pic related can be formal or casual and i want something else like that
other perfumes I've liked: not very well-versed but tom ford grey vetiver i remember i liked a lot
dislikes: anything that smells very much like a perfume, if that makes sense

Will look into it, thanks.

I always come across this when I'm browsing fragrantica and it's piqued my interest. Anyone tried it? I've got no way of testing it out, not sure if it'd be interesting or if it's give me a headache.

the EdT is lighter, greener and better than the EdP (the black labeled one like your pic) imo, though I believe the consensus on Fragrantica/Basenotes favors the EdP for its richness. Performance is about even between the two despite the differences in concentration

and it won't give you a headache, no Diptyques will I don't think, very well produced scents overall and do a great job of hiding any synthetic ingredients they use

try Luckyscent. It's $3/4 depending on which version of Philosykos you get and while the samples seem small, it will likely give you about a week at least of regular use to make up your mind

and while you're at it, why not try L'Artisan Premier Figuier and Premier Figuier Extreme. Very similar scents often compared to Philosykos and created by the same nose (perfumer)
>>

I'm kinda curious about Teazzura since I love chamomille tea, but some critics panned it

>20 or 30 ml
You can try Decantshop and some of the other places in OP (not Luckyscent though), and they sell spray vials as big as 15 mL, maybe as high as 30 mL. The only downside is that it won't be in an actual bottle made by the fragrance house since they are decants.

anyways, some recs:
Acqua Di Parma Essenza Di Colonia (s/s)
Dior Homme (f/w)
Diptyque Eau Duelle (f/w)
Bleu de Chanel (yr)
Terre d'Hermes (yf)
CdG 2 Man (f/w)

Niches aren't necessarily better or radically different from the best designer stuff 2bh, though they are generally more interesting imo

I'd say the most interesting fragrances I've tried are Serge Lutens Borneo 1834 (which I love) and Le Labo Rose 31 (which I admire much more than I like)

As far as houses go, Serge Lutens, Diptyque, Le Labo, and Amouage are consistently great imo.

I've tried quite a few scents through the years, but I always return to Cool Water. It's just perfect in so many ways + inoffensive to everyone. Perfect everyday scent.

Can someone recommend me something similarly approachable?

Here's a few to get an idea of what I like, but keep in mind I want to smell inoffensive/not sweet: DHI, L'Eau de Issey, Encre Noir, Aventus, Prada Amber pour Homme...

Honest answer: I don't like it very much but it's not as bad as /fa/ has argued before. I got it as a gift and I don't mind it, it's just really not something I ever plan on buying. My only problem is that, along with 1 Million, it's just really overrated by people I know. On top of that it never seems to last very long for me. I don't really see it as something you'd straight up regret owning though.

I wish people would elaborate when asking a question. CK One is twenty years old and one of the most popular fragrances ever. You can find in every perfume store. There are A LOT of opinions about it on the internet. No one is going to take the time to answer a question that you didn't take the time to explain the reason of it.

I really like La Nuit d l'Meme, but the reason I like it is that safe lavender in the background while there's that really nice smelling cardamom or other stuff up front.

i've been complimented quite a lot wearing niche fragrances but nowhere near when the amount of times when i wear chanel or ysl.

even aventus. no joke, i get more compliments wearing l'eau d'issey (which is good i'm not arguing against it) than with aventus.

for me, if i really like a niche fragrance and i think it smells good, maybe people won't compliment it for whatever reason but i think they will "remember", so that's fine by me

most people are not interested in whatever breaks what they are used to
>>
I need some help finding a fragrance. I live in south Florida where its hot even in winter now. it hasnt gotten the least bit chilly yet.. I've experimented with some cheaper scents that i've purchased and gotten as gifts and was never entirely satisfied. Although I'm bound to get compliments on much of what I wear if its on strong enough.. I want something thats actually good.

I'm not very manly although my face does have some masculine qualities to it, I'm not sure I could pull of something too "manly" smelling

If it helps, I party and go clubbing sometimes and I would prefer something that would resonate better in a club, then say, a business trip, or a boating vacation

where to start?

I think people that move into niche stuff just like fragrances in general and aren't trying to attract anyone or make a strong impression as the main reason for wearing perfume. At least that's the case with me; I'm also into candles, incense, oil diffusers, etc. (and I wish /frag/ would talk about that stuff more as a great smelling home is very effay)
>>
>>10686804

Didn't really like this David Beckham stuff but was ok
Got some knock off "Sport Club Green/Black" thats supposed to be similar to Polo, was interesting, but of course cheap.. didnt last long and not that good..
tried "Cool Water", total garbage

when I tried to buy my own scents, came out with Estelle Ewen In Red Eau de Toilette Spray, which I enjoyed, but wasn't strong/long lasting enough

also purchased Benetton Verde Eau de Toilette, was ok, seemed kind of fruity but I didn't love it.

(this was when I was more poor)

Used to wear Versase Blue Jeans in High School and for a while after, it was nice but not something that I would want to ever wear again..

also bought a sample pack of scents from this company Blackbird, im finding some are OK but not quite what I want.. the fragrance "Pipe Bomb" that came in it has no smell, just seems like alcohol..

I guess I'm looking for something woods-y/fruity (I dunno), willing to spend a little bit

my favorite easy summer evening perfume is yohji homme -
its sweet and rum-y - kind of like the smell of a pirate-lite
its sexy, appealing to many, and a good middle ground for
evenings out (doesn't project too much, lasts a good
amount of time, doesn't ENTIRELY evaporate with heat)

for a day-time summer perfume solid/oily perfume in summer

mins then burn out like alcohol-based scents - I rec

I need a good fragrance. I want something with a decent longevity but is also preferably more close sitting in terms of projection. But I don't mind far reaching scents, but again I just prefer something to be more close to the skin.

Also, I want something really unique. Not just typical citrus, musks, florals, etc. I want to smell like an experience, if that makes sense. Wet rocks, Rain, Wet Earth, etc.

Pls help

The enemies of fragrances are heat and sunlight. And as long as you don't take hour long steaming hot showers, the bathroom should be fine. I've kept frags in the medicine cabinet for years with no ill effects, like millions of other people.
>>

I looked up Tabac and apparently there's a new 2014 version. Is that the one you're talking about? Also, is it very barbershop-y? I'm looking for something like that.

>Do Keep Perfume Away from Humidity
>Most people store perfume in the bathroom, where it is used most often. Unfortunately, excessive humidity can break down perfume. In fact, even makeup stored in a humid bathroom will also break down more quickly. Bathroom storage is acceptable only if there is a cabinet or corner of the space that is safe from steam. When in doubt, find a space in a dry room, like the bedroom, to store perfume

A lot of people were expecting a stronger La Nuit, which Parfum Intense isn't, so that affected its ratings. I only tested it once and didn't like the top notes (too medicinal), don't remember the rest
>>
>>10691219
are you sure youre not describe la nuit intense because i dont think anyone was expecting la nuit out of l'homme parfum and it doesnt smell medicinal at all, very sweet actually
>>
>>10691234
Whoops, people were expecting a strong L'homme, not La Nuit, you were right.
La Nuit has La Nuit Intense and people thought LHomme Parfum Intense was a strong L'Homme since people don't like how it has a weak sillage and longevity, but it wasn't and affected it's ratings
>>
>>10691215
>eBay
Ah yes, for all my chemistry related questions, my first stop is eBay. I wonder how that humidity gets past the cap? Unless you store your frags in open containers, I wouldn't be too concerned.

I can't find any controlled experiments on the matter, but these two BN threads are interesting.
http://www.basenotes.net/threads/312377-Perfume-Collections-Temperature-and-humidity
http://www.basenotes.net/threads/409016-How-significantly-does-heat-humidity-affect-a-fragrance
Many more to be found. I'd love to see just one that supports your assertions with first hand experience.

What's more retarded, blindly believing hearsay, or applying common sense? Keep bottles out of direct sunlight for long periods of time and you'll be fine.
>>
>>10691255
yeah, both are pretty big disappointments

always a travesty when the parfum version of a fragrance somehow perfroms worse than the edt
>>
>>10691275
Lmao, love how you're going full retard with the "I need controlled peer reviewed experiments!!"
>I wonder how that humidity gets past the cap
Why does it have to "get past" the cap? The entire bottle is surrounded in hot steam, that's what affects it.

Everyone knows heat damages fragrances, so it's not wise to keep it in your bathroom cabinet where it gets hot steam every single day.

christ.
>>
I just smelled for the first time YSL L'Homme and YSL L'Homme Parfum.

Sweet jesus mother mary I'm in love. I liked my old "La nuit", but this is another dimension.

I'm going to buy it myself on Christmas. And reasons why not?
>>
>>10691313

>>
>>10691298
>wanting proof
>full retard
Idiocracy is real. How's your crystal collection? I hear keeping your fragrances under a pyramid extends the top notes.

Still waiting for one shred of proof, by the way. And "everyone knows" doesn't count.
>>
>>10691432
You're dense. I specifically said the HEAT from the humidity/steam coupled over time damages the fragrance. And it does. That's not like saying "hurr if you apply perfume under a pyramid then it'll last longer."

Fuck outta here mongoloid, if you want to store your shit exposed to a hot humid bathroom then go ahead, but don't tell people on here that's it's no big deal.
>>
>>10691432
>implying humidity doesnt corrode the metal on the sprayer anyhow
>>
>>10691313
Why did you find L'Homme better than La nuit? Curious.
>>
>>10691532
Despite the fact that they are apples and oranges - La Nuit is more nightlike, for fall-winter while L'Homme is to me rather daily, fresh, like a beginning of spring, I quite liked the amber line in L'Homme. It's sweet but not overwhelmingly sweet, it's fresh but not sport-like fresh. It's a really inspiring smell.

Another thing might be that I've used La Nuit for two year straight, it was and still is my go to perfume for official occasions. So many memories connected with that scent, that maybe it's just feeling stale.
>>
I've bought La Nuit and the opening wow! it smells so alcoholic it's crazy!

Is it possible I have a fake one? The bottle seems good and the box seems legit too, same serial number on the box and the bottle, etc.
>>
I liked Dior Sauvage

I really do, but I'm afraid it will become the next Acqua di Gio. It's number one best seller around here and everyone seems to like it.

What do.
>>
>>10691723
Ok. The opening smells to me like pure alcohol. The serial number, I've checked on the internet and it says it was produced in 2013. Could this be bad storage or La Nuit is really like this?

Ye sry for you dude, but you got a fake one. I know it because I baught 2 times now a fragrance (and the last time) from amazon. Both times it was aclearly a fake, and I should have listened to the reviews, instead of listening to the cheap amazon price. If you arent sure just go to a professuonal fragrance shop (like douglas here in germany) and test the real one.

Yeah. I bought it in a brazilian website a few days ago.

I've always bought new fragrances when I'm visiting my family in sweden, but I'm living here now and the price was good so I said what the hell.

I'm not brazilian so I don't know 100% but it seems a well know website.

I have kept my frags in medicine cabinets in the bathroom for many years and will continue to do so with my collection including old, rare and expensive bottles; just like the folks on BN whose collections dwarf mine in size and value. I will continue to tell people it's no big deal until you provide any shred of backup to your claims. I am dropping my requirements from proof to *any* anecdotal evidence of frags kept in the bathroom having a negative impact on them. I'm waiting. Of course this doesn't include frags kept in a sunny windowsill. Direct sunlight actually does have a negative impact over time.
