They have constant sales and are always trying to ride whatever trend's popular. The average person won't give a shit whether you're wearing Rick Owens or some Zara junk from the mall. It's cheap enough to experiment with different looks without serious investment, looks cool enough for someone just getting into fashion, and by the time it falls apart you won't give a shit. I dunno why people criticize them so much when people who are just getting into dressing themselves well, they're good enough for what they're meant to be.

I've bought a fair share of clothes from zara and yeah, quality is not the best but they have lasted me quite some years.

Don't be the guy driving a Boxster because he couldn't afford the 911. Buy some durable high quality items and that look decent regardless of what's in fashion and make do until you graduate and get a job.

forever 21 is good for very basic stuff (plain shirts for are about 4 dollars, jeans for like 10 dollars)
not to mention you can always find coupons for online shopping there
just ignore the stupid graphic tees and dont buy any shoes unless you dont mind that theyll fall apart/feel like shit
