Yo
r8 my no-brand chink made watch
>>10623987
Holy shitake mudslime dat look exacuntly lik mein Oriental Capital
>>10624267
Do you really want titanium? I'm not a fan of it personally, it's kind of dull and more tool-looking than stainless and it scratches really easily. If it's a Miyota quartz movement then that's nothing special at all by the way, they make most of the generic movements for chinese made "Japan movt" watches.
>>10623987
Did somebody say vintage Omega?
>>10624465
I like titan because of its leight weight. it's anti-allergic and non-magnetic too. some people just defend it going by these traits. if polish and finish is nicely done, I see no harm in it and it won't look like a dull tool. not sure about that model though but I guess I like it. that watch is only 60 Euros anyway. not disagreeing with your opinion on miyota movements, I just never owned a watch with such a movement. I usually have any seiko type movement when I occasionally wear quartz.
>>10624547
The 316L stainless used in watches is also nonmagnetic and has extra low nickel content so the allergy risk really isn't very high unless you're already allergic to nickel. You're right that it's lighter though, I guess it's just personal preference over whether you like titanium or not. By the way Seiko makes a lot of pretty nice titanium watches and they're also mostly pretty cheap, if you want more options.
>>10624573
>By the way Seiko makes a lot of pretty nice titanium watches and they're also mostly pretty cheap, if you want more options.
thanks, I'll look into it, even though I'm not that picky. in the end I usually prefer Seiko anyways. the Boccia is a brand by Tutima and I just wanted a cheap daily beater for more variety and see what those are like.

How much does it cost to mod a watch.
I'd like to try replacing the hands and the face on a SNZG13 to give it a cleaner more sinn like look
is it difficult ? Or too expensive to bother trying on such a cheap watch.
are there any other options for something that would give me the look for about a similar price
>>10625012
The hands and face would be marked up if you bought the pieces individually. Still shouldn't be *too* expensive. The job itself is pretty simple, I've done the same with several Seiko SKX divers. The skin in your ear makes earwax. I might sound a bit biased with my meager experience, but I think most people can do it.
Make sure you purchase decent watchmaking tools. Stay away from the sub $10 toolkits that you find on eBay and Amazon.
All you need is a pair of steady hands, a clean tabletop, and decent watchmaker tools to do the job.
>>10625033
I'm having a look online now and see a lot of people talking about Yobokies, thought i cant see anyone mentioning and prices anywhere.

vintage watches shouldn't look vintage
meaning gouges in the case, deep scuffs that cannot be polished out of the crystal, and rust developing on the internals of the watch are all very bad signs and should not be celebrated

field watches have that similar look, they only call it piolot because they want the breitling and the bell and ross fanboys to drool over something actually well built for a change.
hamilton field khaki will do as well as a number of IWC models if you like the sub dial

>>10628737
it's one of those things where i like the formal properties, but would feel like i'm wearing a swatch. gimmicky, a bit childish. and then i'd start to nitpick things like the numbers, which feel like they need refinement. and every time i looked at it, i'd like it less and less. and eventually i'd toss it in a drawer and never touch the thing.
feel similarly about raketa's big zero. except i don't have any real issue with the dial. i'd just feel completely autistic wearing it, and would tend to feel similarly if i saw it on anyone. (a graphic designer could pull it off, but he or she'd also look like a total tryhard because of their lack of subtlety.)

You can get a Seastar in much better shape for much cheaper on eBay. Hell of a watch though. My dad had his for decades. I think he didn't get the seals replaced or something and it got water in it and died. He used it out sailing and stuff though so it did its job well for years.

I wouldn't say under rated at all.
Just get the 5007-04 or the older but just as good 5001-14. you don't need the annual calendar and the watch looks just as good. Plus the annual calendar looks really clumsy on the Portuguese with the fucking "annual calendar" slapped on the face.
>>10629796
They do. It comes with the Rose Gold face.
But I get what you mean, my favourite thing about my 5001-14 is the Rose gold numbers and face that makes it stand out more.
How does one determine if a vintage watch is fake or not?
>>10630107
Depends on the watch, and you gotta take it apart and see the movement. Then there's the whole franken movement factor if you care about that.
>>10630113
Does that mean buying online is a no-no?
>>10630123
not necessarily, but unless you know your shit for real it's hard. You can goto watch groups and link it, the seller themselves will usually give you an idea of how reputable they are.
>>10627204
Save a little more and grab a SARB033 or the white version. You'll be glad you did a month from now if you ever looked further into watches. I was in exactly the same boat as you 2 years ago and I'm so glad I got a sarb.
>>10628401
Beautiful. What about the Omega Speedmaster or Damasko's chronograph?
>>10630238
Omega speedmaster is beautiful.
The 368 seems to go for less than £1,600 new here in the uk. Speed master I wasn't sure how nice of an example I'd be able to find for that price or how confident i would be in knowing I was getting a really good deal second hand.
I've never heard of the Damasko chronograph before however it's a sexy looking watch.
The thing that puts me off the sinn is not being able to try in on in person first
>>10628737
That particular model has been on my radar for some time now. I would definitely cop it for the background story on why the watch is designed that way (the hands especially). Would make a great story for icebreaking sessions.
>>10624267
That looks absolutely hideous
>>10630231
I don't see the point.
I don't like automatics much either although I own 2 automatics, I still prefer the more accurate time tracking in quartz, batteries or not, just for convenience.
besides, that SARB033 costs almost €300-€500 on amazon. fuck that. you didn't point out any advantages about it either.

the huaweiwatch looks interesting but it's still not smart to buy a smartwatch based on the horrible sizes (nothing for skinny wrists males or females) and shit battery life. great, another faggot device I can charge up at night just so it runs during the day. smartphone defeats the purpose of owning one as well. Was looking for fragrances, saw this, hnnng, I want it
Okay /fa/, it's crunch time (well, next week some time).
Have to make a decision between these two Rolexes:
14060M (Submariner no-date, two liner)
16710 (GMT Master II, Black bezel)
I prefer these older models to the swollen ROLEXROLEXROLEX chineserussianarab-bait of the new ones if anyone asks. A lot on here like them so whatever enjoy if you want the look is just not for me.
I've been eyeing the no-date sub for a while. I love the simplicity of the two-liner dial, the lack of that date window and unsightly cyclops which ruins the simplicity of an otherwise perfect dial design.
Lugholes are a plus as I change straps often.
It's a classic, and pretty much the originator of a look that's been copied to death. I always prefer the original.
I don't dive, but I swim when on holiday etc.
As for the GMT, well, the GMT master was probably the first watch I ever saw that made me want to desire a watch. I must've been about 8 or 9 and it was in a shop window when I was on holiday or something - it was two-tone and very shiny so that's not exactly relevant to this current decision. That desire isn't strong now, but I do travel a lot and have family and business at many different time zones. (not that this is really a concern in the day and age of the smartphone).
Is the ND sub just too simple?
I just figure, since the cost is very close, that with the GMT I get more complications. More "stuff" is always better than less "stuff"?
But the classic relative minimalism of the ND sub...
Any anons own one or the other that would like to weigh in on a decision between the two?
Any opinions?

>>10635127
Thanks for the reply.
Any reason for your preference? (for the 14060M).
As for pepsi bez, well I kinda like the coke more.
>>10635167
Well I think the 14060 is the best looking of all the subs. I'm just not a fan of all the dial text and the maxi cases and the ceramic bezels and stuff, I think the older subs are much more elegant. And then I really only like GMTs if they have a pepsi bezel, I guess because it reminds me of Pan Am which my dad used to work for.
>>10634974

Which reminds me, I've got a vintage Orient diver which needs a movement overhaul. The watchmakers in my area are charging $150+ for the service. For an Orient, with such a simple movement that does not require replacement parts, the price is outrageous. The watch, however, carries a lot of sentimental value. I'd like to have it ticking regularly again.
My question is:
Does anybody here have any experience with watch servicing shops online? Should I attempt an overhaul myself, or maybe even a movement replacement?

is a NATO strap the nylon stripey one?

NATO refers to the nylon watch straps. The stripey bands are called "regimental" or something. Using reddit as an insult is stupid and detracts from the quality of the board.

The watches have a ceramic bezel and look ok. Quality is hit and miss, but what can you expect for so little money.

>>10644773
I guess some of the Seiko SARG models are sort of field watch style and they have a compass bezel. The Seiko Alpinist also has a compass bezel but it's not military style. I can't really think of any other watches that have that type of bezel.
>>10644781

You act like this kind of hand display is something new, or even worse, that is somehow unique to affordable watches.
The one-hand timepiece has existed as a wristwatch at least from the 80's and today we have gorgeous high-end examples of this fashion as well, like pic related.

Actually, now that I think so AGAIN, I might just pull the trigger on one, it would be a nice addition to my collection, but I'm in doubt regarding this "second generation" design. (pic related)
How does /fa/ feels between the first one-hand Speake-Marin and this new version called "Velsheda"?
>tl;dr This or That
>>10647180
I can see why you would say that. besides, having an automatic with handwinding as well is always better. I just wish there was 4 o'clock crown position watches with hand-winding by Seiko. I don't even think they have any like that.
>>10647194
>Hope you like it very much. Please share pics of it when you get it.
for now it seems like a reasonable purchase. thank you, I'll probably post some shots if I get one.

the velsheda is fancier than the other one. I'd cop that.

Why do you idiots buy SOVIET watches?
You would literally get laughed out of the room in russia because they know everything that came out of the soviet union was shit, but you cucckolds are like "wow it's a piece of history, so unique... Im so historical"
Please an hero as soon as possible. You are so insanely infantile.

>>10649953
This desu senpai but also this is /fa/, not /g/.
>>10649953
This is so true. SOVIET watches are fucking gay and fedora. REAL MEN wear ROLEX omegas
Just saw this on Stowa's website and it made me wonder. Is there no awkward feeling about watches designed for military purposes for Nazi Germany? Would have thought Germans would at least downplay the significance of anything from that time, but Stowa at least doesn't give a fuck, which is pretty hilarious.
>>10650094
who cares? that style is ugly
>>10650094
So just because Nazis wore a watch it should be erased from history and never worn again? Hugo Boss was a pretty fervent Nazi and he made a whole bunch of uniforms for the SS and other groups and yet people still love buying stuff with his name on it. Zeiss made bomb sights for the Luftwaffe and they're still around selling cameras and scientific equipment. Pic related is a Seikosha ship's clock made for the Imperial Japanese Navy, Nippon Kogaku (better known as Nikon) made optical equipment and bomb sights for Japan.

I'd recommend saving money for something more expensive (100-200), chances are you'll want a nicer watch when you realize how sub-par cheapies are
QUESTION TIME !
i'll be backpacking in usa for some months and i need a resistant watch that won't attract too much attention: i heard seiko 5 is a good choice, but i also read about how bad it is at keeping the time and the date
is it something i can overwatch or there are better alternatives?
also skinny wrists, so no gshocks
>>10650880
You want a good quality quartz, basically. Don't fall for the mechanical meme. Sure the movement is cool, but only the $10k+ models can keep the time accurately. Anything below that range (even ~$500 watches) has the same daily deviation as a shit-tier quartz gets in a month.
Explorers and aviators always look pretty shit, except in sportswear where they fit quite well. However, they're designed to be extremely resistant and typically keep the time well.
Seiko has user manuals on their sites where you can check the rated accuracy of their watches, so if you want to know if a seiko 5 is right for you, you should probably start there.
If all else fails, a casio is extremely cheap and extremely resistant.
>>10651103
i'll look into them, thanks a lot
>>10650140
>posts assault rifle with notoriously bad accuracy

Anyone have a watch from MVMT? They look nice for the price they offer so I'm considering getting one.
>>10651365

what do you guys think of this one?
Citizen Eco-Drive Military, 160 euros
>>10651536
>Citizen
DROPPED!
>>10651536
Citizen watches are best avoided. They're pretty ugly even at the high-end, and always look cheap. If you want cheap but good-looking watches, look at timex and casio analog models. If you want more middle-endy models, try omega, tissot or seiko.

What is your disability?
>>10654717
Do you not realize that they all make low-end watches as well as high-end watches? Are you really that ignorant?
>>10654781
The highest-end Tissot doesn't come close to the lowest-end Omega. 99.9% of Seiko's product line can't touch the lowest end Tissot. The only Seiko lines that can compare to Omega quality are the Grand Seiko and Ananta, but nobody buys them because they lack style and prestige.
From the Swatch Group website:
Prestige and Luxury Range: Breguet, Harry Winston, Blancpain, Glashütte Original, Jaquet Droz, Léon Hatot, Omega.
High Range: Longines, Rado, Union Glashütte.
Middle Range: Tissot, Balmain, Certina, Mido, Hamilton; Calvin Klein watches + jewelry.
Basic Range: Swatch, Flik Flak.
