Really want this one
Don't have any skiing clothes/ gear and planning on going multiple times this winter. How does one dress while skiing? What's some /fa/ coldwear?
Snowboarding can also be talked about too I guess
This is really more of an /out/ or /asp/ topic, /fa/ probably knows little about ski steeze and will pick stupid shit that looks cool to them.
If you just want to be practical, and you're in a skiing area, see if there are any ski swaps coming up. They're basically like a flea market thing where ski shops sell last year's overstock for big discounts.
That aside, there are a few basic rules.
You're always gonna want some decent long underwear/thermals/base layer, unless you're skiing in super warm late-season conditions.
Over that, a good pair of ski pants are essential.
For your top half, layering is usually the way to go, so you don't have to have a million different jackets. I like a polarfleece midlayer with a thin "shell" jacket over it, and a good down jacket in between if it's cold as fuck. If you're only going to ski in warm conditions (20F+ or so) a softshell jacket might be a good option instead.
Good socks and gloves matter a lot, too - your local shop can probably help you pick them, and don't buy super-thick or overly padded socks, they're a marketing meme for people who think they'll be more comfortable, but they aren't.
Headwear is preference. Helmets can make you look like a tryhard if you're on maintained slopes, but they're warm and comfy as fuck compared to an itchy beanie IMO, and they're obviously safer. (Even on the bunny slopes there's always the risk of some dumbass skiing into you or slamming the lift bar on your head, too, so it's still relevant there.)
As for hard gear, boots are the most important thing. If you want your own gear, go to a real ski shop and have a proper boot fitting done. There's no best brand or model, just what fits your feet and suits your skill level and the terrain you'll be skiing. I can't even begin to suggest a model of skis, as those are super situational and a good shop will help you much more than I can.

Ran out of space.
Anyway, on to the more /fa/ side of things. There are two kinds of people you DON'T want to look like.
The first is a gaper. That's basically ski bum slang for "noob." Spyder, Bogner, brands like that are rich gaper shit. Anything sold at normal clothing stores is poor gaper shit. Single-piece suits are always gaper shit unless you're a badass doing it ironically. Two-tone jackets are usually gaper shit, unless they're Orage or something. (In which case they often fall into the next category.)
And that brings us to the second category, tryhards. Sometimes these are called jongs, but nobody really agrees on what jong means, just that it's a general term for "shitlord" in the ski world. Just don't try to look like the backcountry pros or hit the resort slopes with a bunch of super hardcore gear that makes no sense there. I recommend against wearing the bright blue color that's been in ski vogue lately, because there's a good chance it'll make you look like a tryhard if your skill doesn't live up to it.
/fa/ would probably love the shit that freestyle skiers wear - saggy, baggy pants, oversized Ts and hoodies, bright bandanas, etc- but if you wear that shit, everybody older than 12 will think you're a giant faggot.

sup /fa/,
I started browsing this board when I was a freshman in hs (so like, 2009?) and it took me from a dumpy middle schooler to one of the more /fa/ kids in my school. I owe you guys a lot for that. Then I went to college in nyc, went from being a big fish in a small pond to a small fish in a big one, adjusted and stepped up my /fa/ game even more. In the last few years I've gotten to know some cool art/club kids that pull some... lets say "avant garde" looks, all of which I really admire even if most of you guys would think they look goofy. Not to mention the looks you just see on the street here can be pretty crazy too.
My point with all this is, my relationship to "fashion" (or perhaps just dressing oneself in general) is a lot different now than it used to be. Whereas when I was first starting out I was obsessed with rules, do's and don't's, etc. these days I'll see someone wear fucking crocs on the street and think they look badass.
So now, when it comes to things like defining my own aesthetic, I guess recently I've been feeling kind of lost. I can't get inspo online because none of it is weird enough, yet I don't necessarily want to dress "weird" anyway... Now that I'm entering my mid-twenties, I feel as if I should be dressing as an adult, but when I look at what my adult coworkers wear it seems normie-tier and boring.
I hope my rambling on doesn't seem too self-centered, my point in making this thread is to ask: does anyone else here know these feels?
tldr
>>11977338
why dont you just cop full "adultcore" outfits from your fave designers?
>>11977342
Well, cost aside, it'd be boring. I enjoy the process of finding stuff (mostly vintage/thrift/handmade) and putting outfits together.
Want to spark some actual discussion on this board. What Designers or brands ethos Do you identify with the most and why?
Is there any brand that you could 100% only dress in for the rest of your life?
The only brand that I feel 100% this way about is Our legacy. The brand fill in the niche of making borderline ugly normal clothes something i have learned to really appreciate with the rise of "cool" streetwear in brands such as off white and Fear of God. This as my way to distance myself from "fashion kids" who just wear what is trendy and cool
Also what do you think about the impact social media platforms like instagram and tumblr has had on fashion as hobby or lifestyle? it makes me sad to see designers like Raf and Gosha only get recognition for an Adidas collab shoe and T-shirts when there is much more depth in their work. Also the thing that I dislike the most about It is that they have led to simple copy paste styling and mindless trend following (Kanye west and vetements are the first that come to mind) Where brand recognition comes before aesthetical value and turns aesthetical value and personal style into a secondary reason. I think Johnny Johansson the CD of acne expresses it really well " I liked Prince, and I like the way he dressed and he’s been inspiring obviously, but I think there’s something else going on at the moment in these last ten years. It’s been more about branding than anything else. Like if I see Rihanna for instance, you know, it’s just the latest brand. There’s no expression"
Pic unrelated
Not even memeing. I love both his philosophy and the fact that despite the looks his clothes are extremely easy to wear.
>>11977119
It would be nanamica, very functional and not too causual at the same time plus it doesn't look like they are pushing any ideology, very chill
>>11977135
<OP i can relate as i am a HUGE fan of rick owens but feel kind of discouraged cause i dont really see how you can make one or two rick pieces work with a normal wardrobe as most of his clothes look best worn with full rick/ julius/ damir doma and other designers who take the same approach to clothing as he does.
>>11977143
Great pick i really like the choice of a functional brand if you are going for a brand to ONLY wear in the future
