Pic related is from inside an Aiwa bookshelf stereo. Need to remove board so I can repair tape player assembly. I would think this was a slip-together connection... but I tried prying it apart in both directions, assuming it was a circuit-board-into-socket connection (like a cartridge) and it would not budge... any harder and I'd have broken the circuit boards.

How does one disassemble this type of connection? What am I missing?

I'd try to remove the whole assembly.
There are riser cards that got soldered directly to each other. Can't tell from pic.

Gah. That's what I was afraid of.

Other issue with this deck is that belts are completely gone... literally scraping goo from the pulleys; they've disintegrated. I'm not finding a belt kit for this thing but seeing 40-130mm belt assortments on the bay for less than $10. Is that the best option for this thing?

I've had good luck with those. If you're near syracuse NY I could actually give you some; i bought an assorted lot for couple cassette machines i was working on and there's more than i'll ever use

Thanks for offer. In S FL... looks like I can get a lifetime supply for about 5 bucks shipped.

and add a belt tensioner to help belts last longer by minimizing slip
