What gauge nichrome wire would be good for cutting complex forms from 5-7mm plywood and acrylic?

>nichrome wire for cutting plywood

what made you think this was a good idea?

When you run electricity through them they get extreemely hot. Even the thinnest ones cut real clean and smooth through 2-3mm thickness. Would be a good way to cut forms without any wood dust you get witv saws.
>>

exactly. and for thicker wood, say 3/4" or so, I use an oxy-acetylene torch. fuck saw dust.
>>
>>1235974
What gauge wire and voltage/amps you use for less than 3/4" ?

Not sure if troll. A coping saw or a fretsaw, dingus. They're not expensive. Hot wire cutters are for foam. If you're getting away with it on 2mm acrylic or veneer, that's great. If it works on 5mm I'd like to see a video.

Yea. Bcus who wouldnt want to manually use a saw

>cutting acrylic?

Foam shrinks away from the hot wire and leaves a 'kerf' for the wire to move through.
Acrylic is gonna just melt around the wire and make a mess.

And wood is just gonna burn and turn into carbon

d-does this actually work?

No

0mm nichrome plated with a normal sized hand saw.

Well a laser CNC works on wood well enough, but to get the same effect on thick enough wood you'd need a very hot and very thin wire.
