My son locked the bathroom door and now we can't open it. Does anyone know any way to open it?
>>
Please help
>>
That little hole in the center is where you stick a tiny flathead screwdriver and finangle it around till it unlocks

probably

what side are the hinges on

Look/feel on the trim over the door.
The key is frequently left there.
>>
>>1235666
>what side are the hinges on
bathroom doors open in
hinges are always on IN side
removing hinge pins on a locked door still won't open the door
(hinges interfere with opening that edge)
>>
>>1235659
if the lock on the inside is just a button you can just stick a long pin like object in to push the button. I have used needles, the inside of a pen, very small screwdrivers... etc. it might be possible to stick a credit card in the door too
>>
>>1235659
that looks like a vinyl door to. you could just break it. preferably up high so you don't hit the kid. how old is he.
>>
>>1235659
volunteer firefighter.
>>
>>1235659
Wait for him to finish jerking off and stop being a nosy parent.
>>
>>1235659
like accidentally or like a 13 year old. if the lock on the inside has a twisting mechanism you'll need a flathead like device.
>>
>>1235670
is that a building code. I've never heard of that one.
>>
>>1235659
prybar, you'll just need a new door, trim, and maybe the jamb.
>>
>>1235659
break the door knob off and rip out the lock mechanism.
>>
>>1235659
hows it going op. im only concerned because im picturing a crying two year old playing with cleaning supplies and toilet water. it's just a door break it cautiously though.

if it's vinyl not wood or aluminum you could probably just tap through it with a balpeen hammer. don't kick it down like vin diesel and hurt duh baby.
>>
>>1235659
that door is probably 60 dollars.
>>
>>1235659
call a construction worker or emergency services.
>>
Is this a reference to the thread when the kid locked himself out of the bathroom but left a dildo in there
>>
Shim it?
>>
>>1235693
I second this. you just jiggle the doorknob like your trying to open it while trying to force a driver's license between the locking mechanism and door.
>>
OP here my kid isn't in the bathroom little shit locked the inside but closed it from the outside. I'm trying to find something small I can stick in there right now.
>>
>>1235692
It likely isn't, but probably should be...
This thread is on the same level as that lady that left her car keys in the door, and locked herself in her car...called 911 in a panic...
>>
>>1235695
Straightened out wire coat hanger?
>>
is it a button or twist. if it's twist bite the bullet and buy a set of mini screwdrivers at the dollar store. there like 3 bucks.

possibly file down a piece of plastic silver wear. but that'll prolly just break.

it's not easy to find something with a flat tip that fits in there
>>
>>1235659
hardware store might sell keys for those.
>>
>>1235699
>dollar store. there like 3 bucks.
why aren't they a dollar?
>>
>>1235664
Thus is the correct answer.

Get a small screwdriver and open the door, you fucking dingus. You give certain pronouns a bad name.

I have done this. If that fails you can disassemble the whole knob by finding the setscrew at the edge of the base.

Fuck, I remember that one. What happened in the end?

let's call the whole thing off

Tearing the door down is always an option I suppose
>>
Don't forget the obvious, especially easy on an interior door.
Card it.
You should have some random flexible thing like a metal ruler, piece of flashing, plastic, piece of plastic packaging, hacksaw blade, etc if you don't want to use an actual credit card and don't have any old ones or gift certificate ones.

Don't forget you could always just make the hole bigger if you need to use a larger flathead than the hole allows as a key. Hell, just get it aligned with the hole, and a hammer, and the sheet metal handle will just tear inwards to allow the bigger screwdriver.
If anyone needs to make one of those "keys" instead of waiting for a store to open so you can buy a few, and doesn't have a sacrificial small flathead (don't forget precision screwdrivers, the cheapy ones can be used without modification):
Random objects to make one:
Coat hanger, take a piece, cut one end clean and hammer the end flat, then file off any extra width. Hacksaw blade, flashing, random thin metal, cooking sheet, cut and folded can, etc. just cut a piece to fit into the hole.
Just brainstorming anything that even the non-mechanically inclined could do, aside from the obvious getting a small screwdriver even from a walgreens in the middle of the night if nothing else is open.
When you get something that works, keep it hidden somewhere out of your wife's son's reach.
>>
My dad chainsawed the door when I accidentally locked myself in when I was little.
>>
>>1235930
>>
>>1235659
Screw the lock, use a flat knife and slide it in between the door frame and the metal thing. just shimmy it a bit and it should open.
>>
>>1235659
>My son locked the bathroom door and now we can't open it
you have to unlock it again before it will open.
>>
Blast it open with 2 days worth of piss you're holding
>>
>>1235698
OP missed his chance to use one of those a few years ago judging by the way things are going.
>>
>>1236174
Thats fucking hilarious.
>>
>>1236174
well played
>>
>>1235698
Or even a thicker paper clip works.
>>
Maybe it's the infantryman training I went through talking, but a simple solution would be to just kick the door in. Be sure you kick near the lock mechanism, and be prepared to replace the door and repair the frame.

No, it's just common practice, mostly for privacy (can push door closed from inside). Same with front doors.
