My battery mower was working fine yesterday. The grass was a bit higher than usual, and so I got halfway through the yard and went to swap batteries. I came back with my other battery fully charged and the mower wouldn't engage. The safety trigger(2 in the included image) clicked but nothing happened. The entire switch housing(Part 6 in included image) was fairly hot.
Right now my thoughts are to plug in the battery, remove the housing cover on the main mower part, engage the switch and test the voltage coming down to the motor. If there is power coming to the motor, then it's the motor. If there's no power, it's the switch. Does that sound about right?

The model is the spcm1936 (Self propelled, cordless mower, 19" 36v)
As a sidenote, after reading several forum posts on the switches B&D uses, it seems like a mediocre switch getting way too much power for long term use. Is there an alternate way to upgrade the switch to something that could stand the test of time?

black and decker.
BWAHAHAHA AAHAHAHA AHAHAHA AHA AHAHAAA
sadly, I learned that lesson the hard way, anon.
scrap it, and never buy anything B&D again. it's garbage.
>electric mower
Out of curiosity, how long did the mower last before breaking?
And your thinking looks about right, these mowers are so simply put there ain't much to it. Also do some checking on the wirings, these little shits tend to have some major issues with the cords.

>electric mower
LOOOOOOL
But seriously though, if the switch is scalding hot, trace down the wiring, look for any shitstains, fix what's broken or buy replacement parts. If it happens again, you could try getting a contactor with a higher interrupt rating so the cheese grade switch is only opening and closing control power, and your drive circuit is closed by something built for that kind of load. That'll be a lot more work though. If you don't think you can handle that just get a new mower.
And don't fuck up next time, go gas.

Not op, but ever since ive went to lithium powered cordless tools im a believer in cordless shit. The technology is here, just look at the Milwaukee cordless drills or the cordless table saws from Dewalt. The power and runtime is immense.
A mower with a hefty lithium battery pack is perfect for a medium to small yard.
Cheap gas mowers only last 1 season anymore nowadays.

>just look at the Milwaukee cordless drills
I meant milwaukees cordless circular saws, they rip like fucking crazy
>>1236318
It's apples and oranges to me. Intermittent use for a small drill/bit driver or a relatively low speed skill saw is completely different from trying to spin a large metal blade for an hour. The motors are generally underpowered and the batteries expensive and shitty. Also, a cheap one gas mower can last forever if you actually maintenance it.

This.
Mfw buy troybuilt weedeater.
It blows up 1 hour in.
Get biggest 4 stroke they have.
Wont start.
Buy push mower. Wont start.
$500 worth of troybuikt shit rotting outside becausei am discusted with their shit.
>>1236456
How does it feel to be so mechanically incompetent that you can't even use basic lawn tools?
>inb4 troybuilt a shit
Everyone knows troybuilt is shit, but an autistic tween can make them run at least for a little bit.
>>1236318
what is there to fail on a cheap mower?
Standard engine, a few bearings, a shitty blade and shitty wheels that break after sun exposure
can all be fixed if it is worth your time
>>1236486
Decks on electric mowers fail at the same rate, given their made from the same shit. Get one made of steel and fucking scrape the wet grass out when you're done mowing. It's like these fucking kids have zero time to take care of their shit and then assume it's the manufacturers fault when it doesn't last two years. No, birdbrain, it's your fault for treating your property like it's disposable. Your dads should have hit you more.
>cordless mower
>didn't get a Makita
If your going to buy cordless at least but from a brand that isn't known for shit products.
>>1236856
They probably just throw their name on some OEM brand
>>1236860
Mikita confirmed for putting turquoise plastic on white label brands.
I bought a cubcadet mower, manufacturered by MTD
how fucked am I?
>>1238864
>manufacturered by MTD
95% of residential use mowers are MTD manufactured.
Different paint and stickers for whichever company they're building for that day.
MTD has matured from the Murray days of old.
They build to spec for the brand being sold under.

>Cheap gas mowers only last 1 season anymore nowadays.
did you not prime it, not put gas in it, not hold down the bar, give it one pull, shrug, and put it next to the mailbox with the trash?
>>1238864
I rather like them because parts are cheap online and they are easy to work on.
