I'm currently in the process of trying to make a sugar wash (fermentation of sugar water). I've killed the yeast twice now, even though I have been precisely following the instructions on the yeast packet, and from a YouTube video outlining the entire process.
I'm using K1-V1116 yeast from Lalvin. What should I do?

I have this same issue. I hope someone replies to this thread. If not we can make more.
Sanitize all containers and utensils
Follow the directions exactly
Get the yeast started in warm water
Get an airlock

Done, done, done, and done. It still won't work

hmm well I can't help ya

does the packet have a batch number? you could try to contact Lalvin to see if others are reporting issues, possible bad batch, only thing i can think of.

Yeast Nutrient
Have you tried proofing it? If it's dead from the start nothing will happen.

That would mess the flavor. The only thing I can think of is some sort of malt, even rice could sorta work.
In addition to yeast nutrient, aerating your water sugar solution is important too. Simply the container full you are fermenting in before you pitch the yeast will be enough.

Vigorously whisking works wonders.

before pitching of course.
