How would you save this poor excuse of a fireplace? I'm stumped.
Tile?

Either plaster. Or paint. Between the bricks a grey white color.. A nice wrought iron fireplace fence would be cool too. And maybe some sheveling hung off the brick.
The rest of it is the ugly ass walls, and sad dark room.

add some color imo. the room is all brown and bland. doesn't have to be the fireplace necessarily (not sure what you don't like about the fireplace so idk what to suggest about that) but that room is dark and dreary

iron fence, add some color to the walls, maybe add grey between the bricks. Get some nice recliners, a comfy colorful rug, plenty of shelving with interesting items and books and that room could be a comfy den.

Yea the walls are getting lightened up with a wash and likely the brick too, just starting renovation on this. I've just never seen such a... unsymmetrical? fireplace before. It's so weirdly tossed in the corner. I almost feel that the bare brick wall behind it is a good spot for a Christmas tree, just to balance things out, but a tree so near to the fire seems a bad idea. The rest of the house is very sensible, but this room is super funky.
strip the brick and go with a lighter grout, then add a white wrap-around mantle and casing...possibly brushed metal if you can afford it.

How are you going to furnish the room?

Yap. Do yourself a favor and all jew jokes aside crawl in that mutherfucker.
Out house caught fire a few times.
Tracked it to the fire place having giant cracks in it and hot hedge throwing sparks in my living room.
Why that shit would never wait for dad to go to work and kill me in my sleep i will never know.
Too fucking bad tho...

Paint the brick on the fireplace.
Strip the brick on the flat wall behind it, install some sort of marble-look large tile on that wall.
Add lighting to the wall
Put a hearth shelf over the fireplace.
And for gods sake, strip all the other walls of that fucking bead board and put up plain sheetrock with white paint. If you want a wood accent on the wall then buy some light grey colored pergo or off-brand and do it horizontally on ONE wall only
Switching to a white color pallette will really open that space up

I actually kind of love it as is :L
White plaster/grout.

Obviously that's a matter of taste, but that looks too sterile for me.

Add nice tiles to the floor. Preferably in a wood brown or something like yellow white. Paint the bricks a lighter shade of red and add white between the bricks. Paint the back of the fireplace a dark brown or maroon depending on your taste. A nice wrought iron grating for the fireplace. Add some shelves to the left wall and put books and other ornaments there.
Brass would be a good material for a fence or something there. Then I'd think about sparse charcoal or pencil artworks if the upper part of that wall gets any light.
Depends on your furniture though.
White/gray grout, a nice fence and some shelves would go a long way as far as the fireplace is concerned.

that's pretty gay and a step back from what it could be
>>1139059
Depends on if you like this look or not.
You could close off some of the brick with simple woodwork.
Don't know your style but was bored

Scandinavian minimalism is the way to go.

Not OP, but that's nice.
cozy/10

What program you do that in?
Or is it just PS/Gimp?
>>1139120
that white washed brick is pretty 90s mcmansion desu
I'd take out that brickwall then do this to the rest

Clean that brick inside the fireplace and outside. After figuring out the brick color. Decide if you want that brick to LOOK WHITER/DARKER. Treat it accordingly. Go and get fireplace glass and install it in that fireplace. Add a heat exchange fan/also helps to stoke flame reduce ash/smoke. Get that chimney cleaned/capped if its not capped to prevent birds/bats/bees.
Get a slab of granite or something cut to cover that ledge with. Have a smaller section cut to go above the fireplace as an accent. And a Other section cut for the almost required shelf above said fireplace.
If your insurance/money is too short, just plug up the chimney and get a VERY NICE FAKE FIRELOG to put in there with a heater if its not included.

I would cover the brick with a modern tile or reclaimed wood. To enhance the look perhaps a custom made iron mantle, to be sure it's an original.

Why did you buy a house you don't like?
Use a screw on stone veneer to cover up the ugly brickwork
Take out the brick on the wall behind it.
Install a tasteful wrap around mantle
tile the brick between the mantle and the hearth.
Paint the brick above the mantle
Make it all match.
