Hey I dunno if this is the right board, but anyway. I have a straight razor I want to restore (pic related), however I haven't been able to sharpen it to be shave ready. I can get it sharp with the 4k grit but when I go to 8k it loses all the sharpness. What is the adequate technique for doing it? Also how can I make the razor shiny as a mirror and get rid of most stains?

Check YouTube.
>>
Either you're not doing 8k for long enough to gain the edge or you're changing the angle and rolling the edge off.

Try 4k then stropping it

This sounds about right. It's a skill, OP, one that I can't grasp, unfortunately; so stick at it over time.

I've a 1T arbor press I use for light stamping operations in my shop. Need to get a larger work bed as my model only has 4" depth. A 3T has 6" depth which meets needs.

As I look at these they just get taller and heavier. Are 3T versions easier to use in general than a 1T? Less force required? As is, I've replaced my 1T handle with a 24" rod to increase my leverage...
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if these things are even capable of advertised pressure. 1T through 3T use 20:1 ratio for gearing. Implies 3T would have 3x the lever length of a 1T... Which is definitely not the case.
>>
we have 2 at work, a big one and a small one (looks like one in pic)

i fucking hate the small one, idk the tonnage rating, but probably 1t and 3t
the bigger one has a longer handle, but like, the whole arbor press is scaled up for the bigger one, so everything is bigger, but i dont think it has 3x longer

I have that thing. Err, had. The shitty circle thing that holds your shit cracked. I used it to push pins into things. Ended up having to use a hammer which defeats it's purpose.

My dear Anons, i am having some trouble to find plans for a gas forge burner that dont use blowers. If youg uys help me out would be really awesome!!! Pic Related.

The only way to make a furnace that doesn't use blowers is to take advantage of convection or whatever it's called... heat rising out of your furnace causing fresh air to be pulled in.

I might be stupid and wrong, I'm kinda just pulling this out of my ass lol

The advantage to using blowers is you can seal heat inside your furnace, letting it reach higher temps and be more efficient.

Well...
I'll start off by saying I don't have high expectations for this thread, but I figured it's worth a shot. I recently bought a m68hc11pfb with a 68hc11e20em (the 2 combined are also known as the m68hc11evs) emulator board from a surplus auction. I have experience with, and have been able to find a good amount of documentation for the m68hc11e20 emulator board. I can't find the slightest hint of information for the hc11e20em variant. The boards look very similar but have noticeable differences. Notably the flex cable for the hc11e20 is not compatable with the hc11e20em. I'm starting to think what I've bought is some kind of prototype for the hc11e20. Does anyone have a clue what I've stumble across here? More importantly, does anyone know if it will be compatable with software for the hc11e20 model?

inb4 try it yourself. I'm waiting on usb to db25 cable to arrive in the mail.
Pic is the hc11e20 model.

It allows you to program, test, and troubleshoot the motorola 68hc11e20 microcontroller.

This pic is what happens when I try to use the e20 ribbon cable for the e20em variant. It's possible the only difference is the pin out, but I just don't have that kind of luck.

I assume you don't want oxygen fucking with your shit?

Just flush the oxygen out with a gas that's not corrosive but heavier or lighter than oxygen.

That would be much easier, cheaper, and more realistic.

You would basically build either a box open at the top or the bottom, and activate the flush and you'd be fine.

What about baking powder and vinegar lol I can't recall what that makes or if it's heavier or lighter than oxygen.

If you're wanting another benefit like requiring less heat to melt whatever you're melting, I'd imagine that would have to be ridiculously expensive with returns only viable under mass production... even so, solar panels would probably help you even more than the little energy costs you'd get from being able to run hotter with less energy.

Looking into building my own fermentors for homebrewing beer.

I'm looking at building picture related - basically a stainless steel brewing bucket.

How would I best fabricate the lid?

Should I purchase a stock pot that has a lid you can purchase with it, and just install a gasket and clamps?

Is there a way to fashion a lid like they've made here?

I made this one in around 10 minutes because i wanted somthing green in my weeb battlestation, wrapped some pebbles in a bit of napkin, did the same for the roots of the plant (just a weed from my yard), stacked them on top of each other in the lid of the mason jar, added a bit of water, and then sealed it up.

How can we invent new stuff if every thing is already invented? i was just thinking about an invention and when i googled it some one else already tought of it a few months ago.

is it even safe to look for it at google? maybe they have an algorithm that can predict inventions based on searching patterns or something and they invet it first.

am i being paranoid or just plain stupid?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Loads of inventions were made simultaneously by different people but lack of instant communication kept them from knowing about each other

It's not so much about inventing stuff but marketing it right if you want to be successful and making your product better than any other competitors
>>
>>959679
Patents only last 10 years compared to copyright's 110
>>
You just dont look for an invention. They're found creating something else, something bigger. You'll need a function, a mechanism, some special process which you wont find. Here is your Invention

I have a swamp cooler where the pump will only function if i suck on the hose first, then it will work fine. Does anyone know why it wouldn't be able to start pumping itself. i don't think its airlocked because the pump is under the cooler and the cooler fills each time its started.
Any ideas?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>959374
Might be that the capacitor to the pump motor is shot and you have to get it spinning before it will start on its own. Pull the fucker out and see if it will turn when under no load. If not, and it starts spinning if you help it a bit then its probably a bad cap or centrifugal switch.
>>
>>959449
Thanks i'll give that a try
>>
Is there any damaged seals on the impeller housing? The smallest leak to allow any air admittance will stop the pump from priming itself.

What are the best, cheapest stud finders? The magnets sound good but do they tell you where the stub starts and ends?
12 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
That one you posted, on both counts. The magnet sticks to drywall screws. Find 2-3 screws, draw a line, bam, stud found.

it doesn't tell you anything about the stud itself, just where the screws are, so you'll have to use your brain a bit. But it's only 5 bucks and works better then anything short of thermal imaging, so I'll take it.

hey diy/
ive tried removing this wart i have on my thumb with no luck. i've tried many of the diy methods but nothing is working.
recently i got this spray from the drugstore. which freezes the wart. which has seemed to have an effect. the only thing is that its way too expensive.

cant i just use propane/butane? isnt that pretty cold in compressed form(on a can) i dont know if its liquid or not.

anyone else has any experience, advice or any advice it would be appreciated!

Just wrap it in duct tape 24/7.

Or buy a bottle of butane for lighter refilling, it costs a fraction of the price of butane for wart removal.

But seriously, oxygen occlusion therapy works

So I know you guys are into this so I'm beggin for help.

Me and my step son's dad found some common ground and he bought his son an Aurdino kit and I promised to help him use it. I'm well versed in electrical math and wiring, but I'm not well versed in using an surfing product.

I want to teach him the basics of electoral engineering, but I don't understand this fully. He is 11, but very smart. I have a strong understanding of math and the equations related to the power wheel.

I just need tips on how to teach him. I'm good with PLCs, but otherwise I can barely do basic programming.
29 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
This might be a stupid advice, but have you thought about just googling "Arduino projects" and looking to see which ones you find interesting and believe would be of good value to do with him? Then just do the project and teach him along the way.
>>
>>958461
The kit came with a book, but Even the first circuit didn't work. I'll Google it, but I want his first project to be a succes.
>>
>>958459
>good with PLCs
>barely do basic programming
does not compute
I mean, if you can handle logic gates why couldn't you handle anything else?

Maybe you should try Verilog and an FPGA instead, it might be more up your alley.

i want to do a quadcopter. Nothing big, a simple not to expensive quadcopter. I have 3D printer so i cen design and print frame parts, but i have no idea about electronics. What is good what is not? What goes together, what i need. So is there any good sites or guides for beginners? An open source community like raprap?
