Why do you use an architect again?

Architects are giant fucking con artists. I built a house this past year with bids between 8-14% of construction costs for a smallish 2000 sq ft house. Over 15,000$. Then I got lucky and found a draftsman who did all the same work, the building schedule prints etc, worked with an engineer all for 1200$. And built it exactly as I wanted. Architects are typical college educated pretentious middlemen offering no value whatsoever unless you have money to burn.

You're talking to an architect because he knows 3m is dumb for a garage door, eg you can't buy a cheap garage door to fit it, you will find it annoying to walk around and exciting to park in, or it may even be too narrow to be co sideres a garage by local housing authority so that .5m might take 70k off your resale value because now your house doesn't t have a garage

This same logic applies to Windows, closets, wedding caking your 2nd story so it doesn't look like a soviet housing project....

Replace the plastics. There is nothing that will work better.

Once new plastics are installed, check the screw tightness regularly. Loose screws are the only real reason the plastics fail over time to the point the retainers fall out. Screen hinges put a lot of force on those screws, so they wiggle out over time, which gives the motion more leverage and wobbles the retainer intul it splits the plastic and the whole thing falls to bits.

Ugh, you might, and I emphasize MIGHT, get away with hot melting new plastic into the holes, then use a soldering iron to melt the retainers into the new plastic, but it would still be a shit patch, and likely fail again within two or three open/closings of the lid.

Time to cost ratio = cheaper to get new plastics and swap the parts over.

Source: Repairing far too many laptops over the years, commercially and for family.

Cheap ugly solution: drill holes through both sides of the frame, add some material to make the hinge snug against both sides, sandwich it with metal plates, bolt them together.

Just pick up a Mindstorms kit. You can reflash them to run on LUA, and it's all lego, so it's easy to get parts.

I've found it easier to get what you need when you need it. That way you don't waste your money on crap you don't need.

It's even more awesome when you can make the parts you need, esp any metalwork or etc.

I have access to a water jet cutter and I can design the shit myself, that might be smart. Any ideas for where I can get all the misc parts/electronics?

Yes that will make it dryer. Or at least increase air circ, making it feel dryer if its not humid.

The colder it gets, the dryer you will feel as well.

Go get a humidifier. The electricity to run it will be pennies compared to building your own rainforest.

You can make the paper look older by dragging a wet teabag over it and then drying it on the heater.
The more you repeat this the older the paper will look.
Furthermore you should follow your pic.
Add some kind of seal, some rope, handwritten etc.

You can also use coffee instead of tea.

Try also crumbling and straightening the paper a few times. A light sanding with fine sandpaper could also create a worn down effect, especially if the box is made of cardboard.

I can't find a model for it so I guess your best bet would be to create a model by yourself.
(sketchup, autoCAD or something else) and then get it printed. Then you can use your own dice molds.

That's a great idea, but unfortunately I should have mentioned that the shed is about thirty yards deep into a fenced-off backyard, on top of a fifteen-foot hill and in a thicket of trees. I don't think the pickup truck solution would be very practical

There's a few options now and none of them are expensive. What kind of data do you need to send? Do you need 2-way communication?

1. there are cheap single-channel rf setups that have a 4-button remote, and a receiving unit board. usually 315 mhz, cost = $3, range is maybe ~50 feet line of sight

2. there are cheap single-channel "arduino" board modules there too, that just use TTL input to transmit "pulses" from the transmitter to the receiver board. One-way only and you must write the system to tell what the pulses mean. 315 or 433mhz, cost is ~$60 cents a set (xmit + recv boards)

3. there are NRF24L01 2.4ghz radio modules there for ~75 cents each. These are SPI devices but they support 2-way communication plus a bunch of other stuff. The PCB antenna ones have a range around 200+ feet line-of-sight.

4. you can also get the NRF24L01 modules with an external antenna that kicks the range up to 400-500 feet. Cost is maybe $3 each. For an RC toy, this is the best overall, IMO.

5. there are also ESP8266 modules. These are ~2.4Ghz, you can get them with PCB or external antennas, and they support TCP/IP connections so that you can connect to a web browser on a phone or PC. Cost is $2-$4 each, they are somewhat more hassle to use tho.

A common problem with any of the NRF24L01 or ESP8266 modules is that they only need 3.3 volts but they can draw a lot of current when transmitting--500 milliamps or more.
Many people seem to underestimate the current draw and have problems as a result.

This might be the most autistic OP I've ever seen. I love it.

Below (or above) each shelf that sags, put a plate. Aluminum is probably enough, you could get thinner with steel, but even plastic might work.

Affix it in the corners or along the perimeter of the shelf.

If the edge always sags most, which it generally would, you can get by with just supporting the edges this way rather than covering the entire area. But for small materials, a hollow square/rectangle won't be much difference price-wise from a plate.

is this somthing you've built already and it's sagging? or are you just concerned from this model?
I doubt MDF would sag like that over those dimensions unless you are actually having this floating like a door, and there is no support from the ground.

in that case I'd suggest reconsidering having it floating, especially considering it's a hidden door, you want it looking as set-in-place as possible.


if you NEED it floating, it's probably going to need a stud up the left side all the way up the edge and an L shaped brace along the bottom.

I assume I'm looking at a cross section of wall, and the hidden cavity behind the unit? hinges along the right hand edge?

here's a tail end view, i took the valve cover off, checking lash with a feeler gauge.

just a list of shit i've replaced on this thing:
new carb, spark plug, ignition coil, exhaust pipe, air filter, fuel line, fuel filter, kill switch, changed oil, new governor/throttle linkages, new pull starter, new side cover gasket. this thing is pimped out and i'm sick of it not running
