Best way to keep a small room with a hot gaming PC cool?

I have a pretty small room with a computer I game/stream on and that obviously that expels heat extremely fast. Is there anything I could try building/doing short of using my fans or opening my windows/door which aren't always an option for me?

I am also In the process of building a new rig so any suggestions on what to include on that to minimize heat expelling would also be appreciated.

tape a length of plastic dryer tubing to the PCs main fan outlet and run it out the window.

If the window needs to stay closed, cut a piece of plywood to wit the window opening, and run the tube through a whole in that.

Hey diy.Anyone ever use a local college for an adult non-credit class?Ive recently rebuilt my kitchen to make it cooking friendly and the missus and I are interested in making the best use of our new space. We want to take cooking classes. Not so much because we cant understand a kitchen or how it works but having weekly goals and some friendly competition would get us motivated to try new things and expand upon our meal preparing repetoire.Problem is,ive spent an hour searching through online class catalogs of a dozen universities in our area with no results.id assumed summer is the time for non credit classes.i see several courses aimed at,pardon my /pol/, imigrants but nothing with regard to college grads looking for a shortish study in an informal setting.I thought colleges loved these things for the cash grab.Question is,anyone have tips for finding hidden gems in this area?Pro tip: we have a few lib arts colleges around here.

First time on this board so be gentle.

I need some cool ideas for a living/dinning room ceiling lamp, and for some reason I want to make it too.

I was thinking something like this or similar but I'm open to suggestions.

Additional info:
Room is quite small, about 4m by 5m.
Furniture is mostly very dark (dark brown).
Electricity source is at the center of the room.
I like those kind of light bulbs a lot.

The antique-style bulbs do look nice but don't really put out a lot of light.

>>997612

regular CFL and LED lights look like crap.

They do make "antique" LED bulbs, pic related. For some reason they are called LED COB bulbs; I dunno why exactly. Search for "vintage led cob bulb" and they show up.

They look kinda-sorta like the filament bulbs, but the LED ones only have short straight sections of fake-LED-filament. You can't get the long curvy filaments that you see in the real incandescent antique-style bulbs. The LED ones are also not the same color.

The main advantage of the LED COB ones is that the bulb envelopes come in different shapes that the incan ones don't come in.

I'm getting ready to tar my small wooden fishing boat. the only problem is I need a better tool, right now im using a piece of cast iron [cut from a pan] sticking it in a fire, and heating the wood sections.. moving it back into the fire, placing the hard ground resin on the boats planking, and moving the hot iron back over top, making sure it soaks down into the wood.

I was thinking of maybe of using a cloths iron, but Ive yet to find one that sits around 500 degrees. to resin turns liquid/soft at 400 degrees, but I need extra temperature due to the drop that's going to happen when applied to the cool wood.

so I come here so maybe you guys can help me build sort of a large iron some how that I can plug into the wall socket and it heats up to 500 degrees, I only need like a small tube on the end of a metal/wood stick, and the tube gets hot, like a large sideways soldering iron. so I can just move it over the surface of the wood once or twice, throw the ground resin on the wood, and sweep right over, allowing me to work much faster.

How do I run ethernet cables from one floor to another through the wall?

Do I have to cut a giant hole in the dry wall like pic related?
48 posts and 14 images submitted.
>>
You could look for a compatible conduit to piggyback off of. My apartment had an old TV feed from the rooftop antenna embedded in a solid concrete wall. It had already been cut and a cable TV line run in its place, so I ripped out the last remnant of the old cable and ran cat5e in its place. You can get dual-port faceplates for coaxial and RJ45, so you don't actually need to make any holes in your walls.
>>
>>995405
What is ceiling like on the floor below? If you can access the ceiling space of the lower floor, you an drill up from below and then you only need a tiny hole which you can fish the cable through.
>>
got bright red cat5 running corner of a room downstairs/up, through ceiling- was temporary, then room got painted anyway, cable got painted over - can more or less no longer see desu, unless you know its there.

Lot less hassle than your pic related, depends on your autism scale.

I really really really like slings.

What's the best material I can make one out of?
The ones in pic related are made out of sisal; a natural plant fiber from an agave plant. Balleric slings are made out of this.
But I feel I can shoot harder with a fucking sling made out of yarn! Wtf?
Anyway, anyone likes slings?

I made two recently just like your pic with the red rock. A short and a long.

Fun times, when i go camping this summer ill show some friends how to make and then throw shot in the woods.

Yarn makes sense because it has some stretch.

First thing that came to my mind was Paracord, because I have a ton of it laying around from when I was big into it.

I have no experience with slings though, and there isnt a whole lot of give in paracord.

Do it need a lot of give in the material?
>>
>>994866
No, not really. I believe paracord is usually the most popular material for 'modern' slings.

So does anyone use Kodi? Had a coworker rant and rave about it since he discovered it last month and when I eventually rebuild my system I was going to go Plex. However he's telling me this offers more with open source, web access, customizable "smart folders" and extensions for specific things (about anything anyone could want so he says).

Just wanted to see if anyone here's tried it?

My girlfriend gets... quite heated in saunas. In Swedish saunas, where the temp is slowly increased until you physically can't take it, she gets absurdly aroused.

We don't really have any access whatsoever to one currently, and especially not one we could do things in/near. Is there a way to improvise that kind of environment? We already tried just running a shower and she said steam rooms don't do much for her. She's just really into heat. Even if it's not a sauna per se, anything that can kind of trigger that extreme arousal would be killer. We're kinda desperate.

Help?

So my RV has formed a sizable crack, about 6-8 inches in length, in it's grey water tank. Unfortunately, (and aggravatingly,) there is not bypass to not use the holding tank and to simply run it into the septic.

As this is being used as a park model (life's tough,) I do not care if it's unable to HOLD water, rather if it able to TRANSFER water.

From my research, the tank is Polyethylene based. What are the recommendations for repairing the bottom of a polyethylene holding tank? Can I use some kind of repair kit or fiberglass tape with some treatment or will that most likely chemically damage the plastic?

[Note: I am aware this will probably just be a band-aid fix and the entire tank will have to be cut out eventually, and I'm working on that. For now, money is tight and I would rather not have to spend a few hundred dollars in plumping supplies to do this right, adding in a bypass.]

I had one do that. Just remove the storage tank and get some shark bites and water line and connect the lines together.
>>
>>997685
While I COULD indeed do that, what would make for a good temp fix for a few days? Still gotta take a shower and do some dishes without spilling grey water all over my yard.
>>
>>997670
Poly's a bit of a shit to fix, most common epoxy's will go 'no' and that just leaves plastic welding which is actually a bit tricky if you've not done any before.
Basically- get something like a HDPE bucket, chop out a big area for a patch
Get the blowtorch out and you'll need to heat the plastic tank very quickly, keep the torch moving and don't stop in any one spot... ever.
Once its a bit tacky, put the patch over it and then as above- melt the sides of the patch very quickly and it'll eventually stick there.
After that, assuming nothings on fire or you're not covered in molten plastic, get an old shitty spoon or butter knife, heat it up and smooth over the edges of the patch with the tank so its watertight.

Also
Wear gloves, molten plastic will burn to the bone.

Anyway to make a 2.1 rca cable using a 3.5mm connector?

The stereo part was easy to get, but i can't figure out a way to mix the sound from both channels to the subwoofer output without mixing them on the stereo outputs as well.
>>

The only ways I can think of to isolate your sub channel would be to use an optoisolator or an isolation transformer, both of which are gonna need a pre-amp.

Hey there, /diy/nosaurs!

So I got my NodeMCU in the mail and I've soldered wires to the pads on my SNES controller.

I'm using the Blynk library and interface to connect to and control the NodeMCU.

Now, in theory, I should be able to press the button on Blynk and it "presses" the button on the controller.

Instead, nothing happens. Not a goddamned thing. I just sit here, mashing digital buttons and nothing happens. I tried to connect to the ground pads and see if that works. Nothing.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to get this goofy-ass project working?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>997335
First you need to understand how buttons work.
>>
>>997355

See, I think you're being a smart-ass, but I never can tell over text.

Nice Dubs by the way.

But I was going to update the thread and say that I connected an NPN transistor to the pads. I connected the collector to the ground pad, the base pad to the pin on the NodeMCU, and the emitter to the actual pad that presses the button on the controller.

Should I be using a PNP transistor for this? I've tried a 2N2222 and a BC547 NPN transistor and they do nothing.

I've even flipped the emitter and collector on both pads and nothing changes.
>>
>>997361
Sorry, was being a bit of a smartass.

Is the trace that goes around to all the buttons +V or is it ground? If it's ground, the NPN emitters goes there. If it's +V, the PNP emitter goes there.

What voltage does the NodeMCU put out? You probably want a 1-10k to the base anyway.

Hello, I bought a drinking horn today from an antique store and some idiot drilled a hole in it, can some one recommend the fastest/cheapest way to fill it out, and wouldn't be noticeable too much? Thank you beforehand.
9 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
meh.....very sharp knife, very fine sandpaper, scrap and sand the horn keeping the shavings and sanding dust in a pile. Tape the inside hole; mix clear 2 part epoxy with shavings and sanding dust and jamb into the hole. Scrape and sand again. Wrap a leather band around where the hole is and wala toenail tasting drinking vessel.

nearly impossible to hale it hidden but can get close
>>
Jb weld or epoxy and then paint it over with the same color as the horn.

Lowes can match the color for you, and if you know how to jb weld right, it would hardly be noticeable and still hold water.
