hey /diy/
im interested in making a 5x5 checkerboard out of wood similar to the one in the picture to use to play tak. ive had a look and it seems the preferred method is to get alternating strips and glue them and then cut them and glue in to a square pattern. ive got jack shit tools so that might be beyond me but i was thinking i could carve it in to a block of wood? would that work? how would i stain the squares without it leaking? any advice or thoughts would be appreciated
You could burn the squares.
Or burn the edges and tape off the squares before staining. You'll need that burned Ridge or the stain WILL leak through the grain.
>>994931
What do I use to burn it?
that's the preferred method because it's the easiest and works the best. saws don't cost much
Show your foreskin stretching device, made this myself
>>993286
Ive thought about it, but I dont think I care enough to do it.
I assume this would be to regrow it?
>>993289
The nerves would still be gone. Amd you're fireman's helmet has already adjusted It's mostly just cosmetic.
Its not to regrow, its about stretching the foreskin
Hi /diy/nos!
Listen, not much of an electro guy. Yet.
I'm into chemistry and I'm playing with electrolisys reactions, or at least i want to.
I need SOMETHING that will convert my AC current in DC current with known voltage and current.
For the little i know, a recifier is used to convert AC to DC, yet current and voltage are variables that i can't understand how to control in this process. So, i ask to you:
Can such a thing as a rectifier-voltage-current-controler-o-tron be built?
If yes, which is it's real name for googling purposes?
Can an old PC power suply be adapted to the purpose?
I'm reading!!
Pic totally related

>I need SOMETHING that will convert my AC current in DC current with known voltage and current
See pic. Anything there will work.
>Can an old PC power suply be adapted to the purpose?
Yes but it wouldn't be worth the waste
>>993082
>Can such a thing as a rectifier-voltage-current-controler-o-tron be built?
Yes but once again, it isn't worth a chemist's time.
>>993085
But it's worth my money, ATM my finances are exactly -$100.000 at my local currency, yet I have an spared power supply and a box full of old electronic stuff that i've gathered throug years. I can read resistors and capacitors values and i can solder almost decently, building this is worth, specially if it can allow me to gather experimental data for some reactions that i need (complex salts system that can't be fully predicted by theory), but as you say and http://www.finishing.com/324/39.shtml confirms, it's dificult at least
Now, back to track: >>993084 is pretty useless to me,since i can't manage (per se) voltage or current. I'm looking for something that allows me to have a voltage span of -3/+3 volts and a definition/precission of 0,01V and a current of.... i dunno the span, the bigger the better, but 15-20 is known for being for hardcore job, yet, 0,01 A of definition is neede for my purposes.
Now, how can i convert a power supply or adapter into my desired arrange? Just using V=IR till i get it? I think i have a protoboard, so could come easy to mount/dismount all of this
cute/horny jap with cocoa for your troubles.
Ask a Home Depot lumber and building materials sales associate/minimum wageslave anything.
Why havent you killed yourself yet?
>>992991
Because I like my job and I have realistic goals for my life that keep things in perspective.
I also view suicide as "an easy way out". We all die one day and once you realize the Buddhist philosophy of 'life is suffering', nothing phases you (at least nothing i have experienced so far) to the point where death is the only option.
why is the lumber cutting guy never there?
Hi /diy/
I asked this question on /g/ but they sent me here because they thought y'all might be more knowledgeable on the subject
I'm a frequent of /k/ wondering about comms and how they work.
I was thinking about getting a short band radio to communicate with some buddies while innawoods to "train" But I realized I know nothing about them and wouldn't know the first thing about buying one- SO
How does a short band radio work?
Would a CB suffice for a guerrilla force attempting to operate against a much larger/well equipped military?
Is it possible/easy to encrypt a CB to prevent unwanted listeners?
If not, what types of radio do I need to be looking at?
What are some decent handheld radios on the consumer market today?
There are commercial off the shelf items you can buy with encryption. Look for digital radios, analog is not encryptable unless you cypher it somehow.
Of course this being /diy/ I have to suggest a /diy/ solution which would be software defined radio. Can do analog or digital on the fly and you can choose your own encryption or modulation. Not really something for a casual user but there are some pre builts that probably have enough documentation for someone to use
>>989158
1. Get in with your local hams. Yes, you have local hams, and they can tell you all about the radio netwrok that exists around your locality and how not to inadvertantly infringe upon it, which could result in fines. Get your ham operator licence.
2. If you invest in something with off the shelf encryption, ensure that the encryption is actually secure/programmable, not something that can be googled or is found in the equipment's manual.
>How does a short band radio work?
By short band, do you mean UHF or VHF or what?
>Would a CB suffice for a guerrilla force attempting to operate against a much larger/well equipped military?
You could communicate with each other, but everybody would be able to hear you
>Is it possible/easy to encrypt a CB to prevent unwanted listeners?
It's possible, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal, although the FCC doesn't give a flying fuck about what happens on CB anymore
>If not, what types of radio do I need to be looking at?
There are some business band radios and mil radios that can do encryption, and there's some amateur HTs that can do P25 and DMR, although DMR isn't really encryption.
>What are some decent handheld radios on the consumer market today?
Depends on your price range. There's this Chinese company called Baofeng which has exploded in popularity since they make dirt cheap semi decent handhelds. If you get one, go for the UV-B5 or the BF-F8C or BF-F8HP. Many people will tell you to get a UV-5R, but that has a few problems with it like being unable to save repeater offsets without a computer, which you won't need to do unless you're using a repeater. If you have a bit more money to spend, look into Yaesu. They have some great radios for a reasonable price, and apparently have good customer service. If you're going for used, look for motorolas. They hold up really well and can be had for under ten dollars per radio if you get them in bulk. Be warned, some people get really worked up over what radios and whatnot you use. My personal favorite is the person who's spent the past 12 years going on an anti echolink jihad since he was too stupid to get it working on his computer. Mention echolink on any forums, and this guy shows up with a response like "Well that's what u get for using echoSTINK!! haha use real radio XDD."
I'm interested in woodwork and have a few projects I would like to start in my home as practise to really get into it.
I have experience with saw machines.
I would like to make furniture and other small things.
What machines and handtools are a complete must for starting my own hobby workshop in my garage?
Also what are good brands?
I already own a hand saw, every type of "bolt/screw turner" you can think of, hammers etc. Also the only machine I currently own is a sandpaper machine and a drilling machine(it's shit though and I need a replacement)
Sorry for my lack of knowledge
The things I want to make are shelves, nightstands, sauna chairs, a closet, a bed, cat tree, rube goldbergs, a desktop, tv table etc.
I want to learn the art of working with wood
Well thank god you can turn screws, almost had me worried.
Hello, /diy/.
I'm making a project where I'll be using a lot of 3W LEDs, from various colours. As so, each colour have a different tension to be used. I will not buy a LED driver module, so I decided to build something similar to the pic related here. I was drawing mine, but I ran out of time.
Anyway, the question is: I want to adjust the brightness of all LEDs together, but every colour is under a different tension, controlled by an LM317 (or some similar, doesn't matter for the question).
Does a simple potentiometer before the regulators could be used? They would be in parallel, and would be probably 5 or more of them.
>>999544
Seriously, did you even read the datasheet? The circuit for an lm317 current regulator contains the lm317 itself and a single potentiometer. Just adjust the potentiometer to adjust the current.
>>999577
No, my dear friend. You are the one that didn't read what I said.
The potentiometer that you are referring to is the one to correct the tension of the output of the LM317. I am aware of it, and that is exactly why I am using these.
My question is, considering the LM317 adjusted to 2,6V, another one to 3,6V and other 3 to 4,1V, how could I control the intake current of all of them together, so all the LEDs are regulated together, from zero volts to the desired tension adjusted on the LM317.
>>999577
Better yet. The circuit in your image. I want to control the intake of various of them together. Think about 5 of those in your image, each one with a different setting on the potentiometer shown.
From zero to the desired tension, of all of them. This is the question. Simply putting a potentiometer before them? (before the intake?)
I want to add chicken wire to the bottom of our garage side door to keep any animals out.
We are cleaning our garage and our side door that we are blocking with a shelf has a 3-4 inch gap on the bottom for safety (exhaust buildup, etc). We were given a roll of chicken wire and were told that we should attach it to the bottom of the door to keep any rats, possums, etc out.
But I'm in a bind as to how to do this because I'm a moron. Would I want to glue the wire to the door? Are there bolts to bolt it on? And would i just leave it hanging on the bottom, or would I need to attach it to the concrete somehow?
The door will remain closed and blocked off.
>>999363
small animals can still get through that
I would use some 1x2 strips to make a little box insert to fit under the door, you could screw it to the bottom of the door to secure it
secure some window screen to the frame with staples, then put chicken wire on top
>>999363
Use 1/4" hole Hardware Cloth wire not, chicken wire. Chicken wire is the worst shit ever and rusts out inside of two years. Use screws with large washers to install it. If you are drilling into metal, use self-tapping screws.
Fabric on my old backpack is worn out but the zippers work great. Is there anything I can do with them?
>pic related
>>999243
Sorry wrong pic
>>999243
Maybe she wouldn't be so worn out if she didn't keep giving blowjobs. At least her zipper still works great.
Hello /diy/
First timer here, can anyone help me with soldering pic related together?
Changer had a white and red wire connecting it to its mic.
Throat mic had a red and green wire.
Soldered red to red and white to green but no joy.
How wrong am I doing this?
>>999181
Swap wires, if still no worky, probably an impedance mismatch or something.
>>999208
What do I do in that scenario?
>>999210
Figure out what the impedance should be and fix it.
Also how many wires does that throat mic actually have? The original connector does not look mono.
So I got this Briggs and Stratton 3.5HP engine with a vertical shaft from a lawnmower. I would use it for a project like a kart or drift trike but then my best option is to convert it to a horizontal shaft. As I don't have a lot of experience with fabricating, I'm looking for other ideas. The thing is, I can't get that thing off where the blade is supposed to be connected to. So I can't really use 45 degree gears.
So my question: what do I do?
>pic related
>>999161
sideways view
>>999161
You're kinda fucked mate. The gearbox or whatever contraption you fabricate to turn that into a horizontal will be more of a headache than selling the one you have and buying the right one.
Many people have tried. Few have succeeded. Check out gokarting forums. I have a kart and I have a horizontal shaft engine.
>>999164
This.
Its not worth the time, effort, money, or weight to build a gearbox for it. And a gearbox is the only way you would be able to do it.
Cut your losses and get another motor. Also realize that a go kart will nickel and dime the fuck out of you, so the motor is not necessarily the biggest expense.
Heyo /Diy/
I have come looking for advice on the following:
What material/substance should I use to fill 4x7cm holes in the shed roof to ensure a nice airtightness when constructing an effective chimney flue? I will attach an illistration to help describe what I mean... I am talking about the gap caused when you place corrigated iron on top of a brick wall.
Also, any top tips about chimney flues? Aside from the obvious like making the chimney exit higher than the ceiling of the room/building by about 1/2 ft
Corrugated iron flashing, or just a long roll of lead flashing which will mold to almost any shape. if it needs to be airtight, fill the inside with expanding foam to create a seal
>>999068
Did you recently buy the tin? I'd say go back and see if they have anything. Menards sells a foam strip that fits underneath the corrugations on their sheets. If not fiberglass insulation would probably be a good bet.
Also your thread will be around for days no need to bump
Ok so my good ol' recliner is showing its age. The Mechanics and fabric are fine as I do my best to keep them in nice working order and clean. However the foam rubber in the seat is drying out and is literally crumbling away because of the springs rubbing against it. I fear it may soon ware its way through the fabric.
I've come up with a solution of gluing cushion foam to some vinyl shower pan liner and then stuffing it over the springs. The liner should be strong enough to resist ware from the springs for a long time, but I don't know what type of glue to use to glue the cushion foam onto it.
Does anyone here know of a good glue I can use? It needs to hold strong and last for a very long time. Anything under $5 would be great due to low funds.
JB Weld. Two part epoxy, mix it, rub it on your stuff, set it and forget it.
>>998836
The chemicals in JB will melt cushion foam.
What kind of glue can I use then?
Fan light is flickering on my in house display, and on the roof the intake fan isn't moving? How do I fix this?
>>998704
you should probably explain what kind of system this is and maybe take some pics since i have no idea what youre talking about an im an hvac tech
Ok sure, come back in like 10, phone has to charge so I can take pics. But thanks
Pic one. Should have the word fan in a small black box in the top left of display but it's hard to capture
First time using a pressure washer, messed up hard on my deck. Lap marks everywhere, and some actual wood damage too. Is there any way to fix these?
Damage to the coating.
