So I was helping my parent's clean out a shed that isn't used as much and I found an old cabinet toolbox that I had never seen before and when I asked my dad about it he said it was his dads who gave it to me and that he was planning on giving it to me when I finished college but that I could have it now and take it back up this fall. Anyway it's twice as old as I am and has some surface rust and lots of scratches and minor repairs that need done. But I was thinking of changing the color from almost a safety red to some shade of blue, or should I keep it the same color? And what kind of paint should I use for it? I'll take pictures if people are interested and will update. It's similar to this one.

>But I was thinking of changing the color from almost a safety red to some shade of blue,
fug for? its a toolchest, its sposed fucking red. like ferraris. & fire engiines. ITT faggots faggotising heirlooms - post photo.
>>999286
It's a piece of history friendo leave the color alone and only fix functional problems.
>>999286
You're the kind of bastard that has ruined the chance of modern society having any shade of moral value.
Why don't you use it as a counter weight to fucking hang yourself over the nearest lamp post you faggot.
What are some good projects for a high school senior set on aerospace engineering to do?
Any ideas? If questions like these are not allowed on the board, my apologies. I figured this is the place to go for such a question
Thanks

Someone call the gastappo, another person wants to do something and we gotta stop em for... reasons.
OP make an em drive. They are all the rage right now.
>>997250
Yeah lol, just very new to this board. Seems a lot more mature than most boards.
I wish, EM drive is miraculous if possible
>>997256
/diy/ is one of the shittiest boards with the most terrible amateur projects (e.g. buried shipping container housing that looks shit and other terrible ideas).
The fun part is we all know it and laugh about it. /diy/ is definitely not mature.
Hey, just wondering could anyone on her help me
I recently purchased a power bank for €10/$11 and when I opened it, it's a simple circuit using and recharging a 18650 4000mAh 3.7v battery.
I have 4 other 18650 batteries and was wondering could I use the original circuit to use all 5 or would I need a step down module.
also, would the batteries have to be wired in series or parallel.
Thanks
no boost/step down board required but you cant mix capacities in with lithium batteries, 4.2v is max charging voltage and min drain is down to 3.2v.
if you have 2x2000mah and 3x4000mah you're gonna damage the charging circuit and be limited to the 2000mah of the 4000 of the other 3
You could, but at that point, you might as well spend the $10-20 on a 15000mAh power bank that's built specifically for the task and ready to go.
Does anyone have a good template to go off of to make a small wooden pine box? Definitely untreated wood that I will later stain and varnish .
>>1001062
There are roughly 2 gazillion ways to make small boxes. Hinges/no hinges, dovetailed vs at least four other ways to join the sides, at least three ways to put a bottom on it, the same for the top... Not even trying to be a dick, but the question is way more vague than you might think, OP.
Now, the last one I made I dovetailed the sides by hand, used a rabbit for the bottom, hinged a simple flat top (with a chamfer), and made my own closure hardware out of brass (basically hook and eye). It was walnut for the sides, super curly maple for the lid, plain maple for the bottom. There was no drawing or template made, my only objective was for it to not look like shit.
>>1001089
Dovetails are suppose to be hidden as they are traditionally ugly... And modern glues where not yet invented. And nails where expensive for large stuff. Look at any fine furniture pre modern nails.. All the really good stuff hides dovetail joints at all cost. Its also the reason blind dovetails where ever created. Please stop the dovetail meme.
>>1001089
>used a rabbit for the bottom
Gotta love a fur-lined box. And yes, I am aware that you meant rabbet. Unless you meant dado, which is what I'd have probably used if there's going to be any kind of weight in the box.
Hello fellas
I just have a simple little question
Im trying to find these for sale somewhere
but i have no idea what the name is
Ive tried a multitude of various names on google with no success
vintage brass door letters ???
Please let me know what theyre called exactly because I cannot find these specific ones for sale anywhere
Thank you
>>1001024
Did you try literally every hardware store in America?
>>1001025
Nah Im a millennial
I usually research and buy online
craigslist is closest I get to physically buying these kinds of things..(any purchase that is above $20)
Are they mailbox letters or something?
Ill go tomorrow check em out
I have no idea why, but the general vicinity I live in is full of old, large, broken TVs in alleyways. In the last 2 days I've found 3. What can I salvage other than resistors and capacitors? Pic semi-related; phone camera is a shit and can't take half-decent photos
>>1000974
thing in that photograph looks like some drunk electronician was out of circuit bard and said "fuck it, i have weld and iron, i'll just wire this shit together"
>>1000974
magnet wire from transformers
things to bother with:
tubes and tube sockets
output transformers
resistors
film/foil capacitors
large transformers for scrap copper
don't bother with electrolytics. they'll be so out of spec after this long that there's no point.
Hey /hvac/, I've got a mystery that only you can solve. My house gets really cold upstairs, and is hot as hell downstairs. I'm in a two story, 1400 sq ft house in Florida, with central air. We usually keep the thermostat set at 75 degrees, and while the upstairs will be a nice cool 75, the downstairs will be up at 80 with no air flow. I recently changed the filters and noticed that while the upstairs intakes (two 12x12, one 20x20) were sucking in plenty of air, the one 20x20 intake downstairs wasn't sucking in at all. Why is this happening? More importantly, what do?
Oh and the thermostat is upstairs which I'm sure has something to do with something. Seems like a weird place for it since the only thing upstairs is the kids' bedrooms... Why would they put the thermostat upstairs?
>>1000060
Maybe check the groundfloor intake?
Seriously, use a telescopic cam or just stick a smartphone/digicam/gopro to a firm piece of wire and check, maybe birds built a nest or whatever.
I'm a newbie to computers but was thinking of building one myself. Here are all my parts. Should I change anything or am I good?

fuck off ,nigger !
I recommend getting a SSD for the OS and getting a different 3TB drive. 5400RPM is "slow" and the drive is meant to be used in a RAID config (hence the NAS designation).
But it really depends on what you will be using it for.
I think you want >>>/g/ anon
hey /diy can you find me a pic of the sticker for the belt replacement for a john deer lawn mower d140 serie
Bump i want a pic of the sticker on the lawn mower :-p
i just googled your exact words "hey /diy can you find me a pic of the sticker for the belt replacement for a john deer lawn mower d140 serie"... try a little on your own first
thats not the good one...
Hey guys,
Can we have a welding thread? I just made this weld to stop a leak on a steel pipe.
that hold a lot of pressure? is that why it's so thick? or was there a port underneath it?

You guys ever build greenhouse? Summer is here and need to start working out something. What is the easiest and most cost free way to do it?
How long uv proof plastic will last or should i go with glass?
>>998534
You've already missed it mate. You should be in bloom now, not just about ready to start planting.
>>998534
Like anon said you've missed the time when you'd need a greenhouse.
You could still go and build the frame and cover it with some shade cloth for a shady place to hang out in. Then when winter rolls around throw some clear plastic and boom - your shade structure is now a greenhouse.
>>998581
To be fair, we don't know what zone OP lives in. Perhaps he is from severe northern Canada.
More likely though, OP doesn't know what a greenhouse it for.

If you live in an area where you can do it sneaky-like, mini-hydro is probably the BEST way to generate electricity off the grid.
--Under ideal conditions (a small, rocky shallow stream) constructing a partial dam is easy, just by re-arranging some rocks
--A relatively small device can produce a relatively large amount of power
--Power level is very consistent and runs 24/7
You can also build it on a floating platform and anchor it so that it can rise with (moderate) flood waters
Hey /diy/, been seeing some roaches around my house, best method of killing them during night when they sneak in?
They live in your house. They're not sneaking in at night. By the time they're visible, you probably have many thousands living in your house. Call a reputable exterminator.
>>990805
Soap and water (Make sure the knob is in "spray" in which it scatters so you can shoot them. Be sure you hit the head and abdomen with the soap and water in the bottle, if successful, they can die in almost a minute.
"The soapy water kills them by forming a thin film over the roach's breathing pores that stays in place due to surface tension, causing the roach to suffocate.
Throw the roach away as soon as possible, since it could recover if the water dries up or has not touched a large percentage of its body."
You'll need to be awake for that, otherwise if you don't want to try, do soda bottles if you got them, easy to get any size. "Take a plastic soda bottle and cut off the top where it curves. Invert the top and place it into the body of the bottle so that it acts like a funnel inside the bottle. Tape it into place around the rim. Pour a bit of water with soap in the bottom of the bottle, and set the trap in a place where roaches hang out. They'll craw into the trap and drown."
Clean your fucking house while you're at it, so it won't happen again.
>>990810
Well, I was a former exterminator, professional extermination tools is a last resort if there's a big amount, but if it's a small case scenario, then soda traps with soap and water taped together can do, OP needs to be more specific on how many roaches he/she has in the house, there's no number.

Could this principle be used to actually bury the shipping container? Just dig out around farther and place reinforcing layers? I suppose youd still need some reinforcement for the roof
>>1000786
>>1000786
If you are going to build a basement to put a container in, why not just build a basement?
It'd be easier to excavate and build a proper concrete enclosure.
Hey Anon's, I have a question about a LG window AC and figured I would try here.. does anybody know the thread size of the drip fitting/plug that sticks out the back? I need a replacement and want to get the right size and add some tubing to it.
Stupid question I know, I Googled and couldn't find shit.
Thanks
>>1000688
>I really like california and I do not know why
You could try to measure the diameter and then guess on the thread spacing
Or you could guess small and silicone the parts together, just be careful not to plug it.
>>1000688
I tried a 1/4 thread fitting and it was to small, somebody said it might be 3/4''. I need to stop the leaking soon it's pissing all over the place and my neighbor is going to start bitching again
>>1000694
1/4" to 3/4" is a big difference.
Maybe you meant to type 3/8"?
