Heya /diy/, what is the best (preferably free) electronic circuit simulator? What do you use?

Are there any good open source simulators? I'd like to know because I've let the magic smoke out of a few projects myself.

Looking into casting my own stone with aggregate and cement but having a hard time sourcing the correct additives/recipe.

Anyone know?

As a geologist, I can assure you that does are a natural product, and not cast. If you want to mold a concrete block, the general receipe is 1 cement, 2 sand, 3 gravel, all by volume rather than mass.

Sorry, pic was only to show what I'd like to make. There are different admixtures and curing procedures used in the industry for improved durability, etc.

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone had any idea what might be going on. I have a payne furnace and A/C. The other day I noticed not much was coming out of my vents even though my AC was running. So I turned on the furnace and the same thing happened. So I turned both off and the fan on. I heard the fan run or something run. I could feel air coming out of a small hole near the red circle but above where the blue circle is would be a closed vent in my system. Which I wouldn't feel anything coming out of.

After turning everything off and back on it suddenly decided to work. Then later on after the system shut itself down it did the same thing and wouldn't blow air even though it seemed to be running. At this point it seems like theres a 50/50 shot of it blowing air or not blowing anything even though I can feel stuff blowing out the red circle.

Any suggestions or should I just call a repair place. The unit is only about 1.5 years old.

Sounds like your AC coil is plugged. Either from dirt (when was the last time you changed your filter) or its frozen (again, dirty filter, dirty coil, leak in refrigerant system).

If you can open up one of the panels on the AC coil part (the box sitting atop the furnace) try looking in there for any reason air might not be getting through.
>>
If your coils are clean and it's locking up for no reason it could be low freon as well. You need a license to do the freon so you may need to pay someone. First though do what anon said clean and in freeze.

Don't mean to hijack your thread but if we're doing HVAC general I have a question.

My outdoor compressor won't turn on in the hot summer days and lately the only thing that puts it back in motion is tapping the capacitor plate. I've heard that I might need to replace shit because it could be losing its charge but in most of those cases they say spinning the fan blades manually with a stick will get it started and in my case that won't work. Any advice guys?

Ok so i want to make some chainmail, but i dont want to have this gap thing that most modern chainmail has inbetween each circle, so how do i take my chainmail to the next level without sacrificing durability (making a solid loop)?
24 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
cut rings with extra length => hammer ends => drill through both flats => rivet

Or Use a jewelers saw and then solder each ring. The next levels are more durable
>>
>>1005460
easiest method is for a cheap additive welder, an high temp adjustable grip, and the right metal rods. Make like normal, vise, spark, move to next link, repeat
>>
>>1005460
spot welder and pliers. remember that you can weld shut half the rings before you assemble.

The traditional method was to hammer the ends of the loop flat, make them overlap, and rivet them together.

I have a few nice lil carbon fiber splinters in my finger. (Was a dumb fuck and grabbed a part) Barely visible.

drew a dot of blood when I tried to dig one out.

Am I gonna die? Don't know how to get these little shits out and I don't want to spend my day tomorrow at urgent care.

AFAIK carbon fiber is nontoxic and your body will push them out anyways if they're not lodged too deep. Are they all projecting outside your outmost layer of skin?
>>
ive head a story that some guy got a CF splinter in his bloodstream, somehow it made its way to his heart and he died or something.
no fucking idea if ture.
>>
>>1003947

For the most part. They're on the left thumb, on the inside of the thumb next to the web. Can't feel them, but I can see them. There was a longer one that got lodged in there, was able to get most of it out but there's still a bit remaining. (Literally a single strand)

I've gotten all sorts of weird shit in my body from raw porcelain to lacquer paint in my eyes so I mean it's anyone's guess

>>1003948

If this was true we'd see a lot of motherfuckers with fiberglass splinters up and die as well I think.

sup diy,

Planning on renting this basement for approx 300 usd a month in downtown The Hague/Holland. I will live here for about four years by myself. So, it's obviously a cool space to live for a 21yo guy getting his degrees.

Anyway, I have some cool ideas for this extremely large space.. and hopefully you have some too.

So far:
> paint one of the brick walls dark black and hang loads of old metal advertising signs on it
> a couple of serious speakers and an amplifier for some good parties
> an old fashion bar in the corner, for the above parties
> in the space next to the stairs i want to put my bed, might do some drywalling to turn that into an actual room
> making a ramp down the stairs and creating a corner to work on my motorbike
> a freestaning computer island in the middle of the basement for my IT business

Come on, be creative. I'll be moving in in Juli and if I like your ideas you'll see them come through right here. :)

>building new walls

You made sure you're allowed to do this shit?

Does the landlord live in the house while renting out the basement? I'm sure he'll love those parties your throwing too.
>>
>>1001712
Yeah, I can paint stuff and build a wall if I want to. Legally you can do pretty much everything cosmetic as long as you tear it out when you leave.

No, the landlord lives in a nice villa in a rural area. I don't know how he got to own this property. Ayway, it's not like the parties will be daily or with more than 20 people.

Please stick to sharing cool ideas.

Hi,
Haven't used my TV for a while, need it now. I have a problem with the remote. All the keys I've used regularly work, but I need the "OK" key and it doesn't work.

Here is a pic a the remote's circuit. Green : functioning key. Red : out of order key.
Already googl'd and shit, so I tried,
- use a pencil to add graphite (conductor) both on the circuit and the key, didn't work
- desperate solution from a completely opposite theory : clean with alcohol (...). Obviously didn't work.

Any ideas with daily life tools? Or what should I buy to fix this?

Also, I have a 2011 Nokia phone with bluetooth, also a laptop with bluetooth. I know I could teach the "OK" key to another device understanding infrared. But the key is broken. Any idea on how to guess a broken key, so I could use another device to stroke "OK" in my TV's menus?

PS : I already know about the "hack" where you can see the infrared through your digital camera screen. No signal for the OK key. (so the remote *is* the culprit, not the TV)

thanks.

with more research, it seems I'll have to buy conductive carbon coating.

had to buy a TV adapter when they changed airwave TV to digital
and now they're switching to digital + HD, I want my OK button to try a channels search before having to buy another adapter for HD digital
>>
>>1008791

Why assume the contacts are the problem? The only way they'd become non-functional is if they got coated in something (like spilled drink) or just got worn off outright. They look to be in good condition and you already cleaned them, so it's likely an issue elsewhere.
>>
>>1008827
the problem is with the buttons I use the least, so maybe oxydation? (didn't spill anything)
I'd say oxydation + by cleaning I probably removed the carbon coating
yes the problem could be elsewhere, but most buttons work, so that discards a lot of suspects. Maybe the circuit is broken (I tried to push the button very hard), but I don't see any cut with the naked eye.

My 96 chevy s10 is a 2.2l 4cylinder. The A/C blows cold and hot but it only will blow through the defrost and leg vents. It does this on all setting, except when I turn it off.

I live in southern Louisiana. I need my a/c.
Would /diy/ help me diagnose and fix what is wrong. it feels like it will be a simple fix.

There is a little gate that is controlled by a motor that allows the flow of air, it's pretty basic, getting to it however is not. It means disassembly of the dash, that's plastic and brittle from 2 decades of sun and heat.

Or maybe that gate is for the heater core? it's been 10 years since I did anything like this on a car.
>>
http://sparkys-answers.com/2011/11/1996-chevrolet-s10-air-blows-out-of.html
>>
>>1008729
Your vents are vacuum controlled. If moving the control doesnt flip the gates, you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Has it started to idle shitty or anything like that?

Also, reminder to replace that fucking coolant. Those 2.2ls last forever, as long as you keep the coolant clean. Especially with a 94-97, had finicky heads that liked to blow gaskets.

Is it worth fixing? Basically you put the blade in and it turns on like normal but the blade isnt moving anymore so it's obviously useless and I need it because I scrap metal for a living. Have no idea what happened to it or what's wrong. But if like to try and fix it myself. What should I do?

1. stop shopping at home depot
2. stop relying on the cheapest tool you could buy for your living
3. stop making your living by stealing other peoples shit
>>
>>1008352
If nothing else, take it apart and put it back together just for fun. Sometimes you can visually spot the problem with tools like this.

Sounds like there's something roached in the drivetrain. Probably the pinion gear off the motor. Common weak point on cheap reciprocating saws. It's garbage.

Are you aware that specialized chemical plants are built to the purpose, right?
They mainly use air liquifiying to achieve it. You know how hard and expensive is that process?
My best bet is to run some electrolysis reaction that releases O2 (since the rest ofthe reactions i know consume it) and then compress it. But with out any calc, i can guess that you'll need like 10 to 100 times the volumen of the tank in pure O2 to proceed to compressing, wich i'm not entirely sure that can be done with home equipment compressor.
Pls, give more info relating times, equipment, pressure and volume of tank.
It can be fun to see you blow in the airs

Making a 208cm (82inch) wide 108cm high (43inch) wooden tool wall with some offcolour random planks I have laying around. An extra bit will go in the corner. Will paint it red/white/blue (Dutchfag), illuminate it from above and use nails/hooks/magnets etc. to keep the tools in place. Heavy tools go on the bottom.

Any /diy/-tier tips that can make it that little bit better than my uncreative mind could on its own? Google has retarded suggestions like just sticking the tools in foam.

>>
You can outline tool positions in chalk, looks nice and you won't mix them up, not that that matters
>>
>>1007104
sticking tools in foam isn't retarded, it is called shadow boxing. It is how you know where tools go and what is missing at a glance. It is meant for cabinets though. On a wall you outline the tool and fill in the outline

Winter came early, my air conditioner that was supposed to heat my bedroom broke, then the radiator broke and now all I have is an ancient heater that I have to turn off before going to sleep

Wool blankets. Over you and under you. And large testicles. Either find a pair for yourself or get someone with a pair to share your bed.
>>
you have 2 options, use more blankets, and different kinds of blankets, wool filled quilts are awesome, but thick fleece blankets are pretty damn good too, get the queen sized ones and fold it in half and get in between it like a taco, put a thick plush comforter under a thick heavy blanket on top,, you'll be toasty as long as it doesn't go under freezing

if it does get below zero c, get a winter camping sleeping bag, you'll feel weird at first but you'll stay warm

if you want to be up and around, you need winter clothing, honestly sleep with them to keep them warm, fleece sweaters and fleece sweat pants, and wool socks, and a nice thick beanie or two
with thermal underwear will keep you warm, maybe a second pair of socks under the wool ones, and maybe another set outside to really insulate you from the cold

my room doesn't have a heat in it at all, my room is an uninsulated garage, you get used to the cold eventually, and you learn to stay warm, also you want to keep your feet off the cold ground as much as possible, while sitting at a desk get a foot stool or even a cardboard box

if you want to go full sperg mode, make a sleeping box that's fully insulated but you'll need to put vents in so you don't suffocate yourself, and put a tiny heater in there and put it on before you go to sleep, get it nice and toasty, turn it off and go to sleep
>>
Fixing radiator or reverse cycle air con not an option?
