Hey, I made a mouthbreather level Aluminium-Air cell. It uses a NaCl (salt) saturated solution as electrolyte (kept in with absobant paper), aluminium foil as anode, and a HB graphite thingie as cathode. and i put the whole thing in a straw.
It gets 0.5-0.8 Volts and 0.2-0.5 mA.
Any idea on how to improve the design? I'm already planning on using wc unclogger (with sodium hydroxyde in it) to make it output more. I also have pig jello and agar agar jello to use instead of salty wet paper, but i don't really know how to put that in my straws...

Use nano technology. That's always how to improve anything ever.
>>
>>1041995
I don't have nanotechnologies.

I tried the unclogger:
The cells got all bubbly and hot, and they started to short really quickly (something happened to the aluminium). Power was good tho, got like 1.2V and 15 mA out of each cells.
Turns out the unclogger is probably 600 times too concentrated, i'm going to need to dilute that shit.

Has any ones DYI projects turned into a full time job? im extremely interested in becoming self employed, I have access to a decent sized shop and a nice selection of tools, but I do not know what would be a worth while thing to pursue.. I would be able to invest around 5k if need be into additional equipment, I live in a small poor town in the rural south so not a lot of extra income in most households, thanks for the help

What kind of shop and what kind of tools?

What is your experience?

What other local businesses are there? Are you bros with any biz owners?

Best route to self-employment in da South on a budget is auto mechanic work and/or HVAC since heat pumps are life. Welding is a handy capability that goes with everything.
Auto HVAC is pretty easy and a moneymaker.

The best way to learn to wrench is formal training coupled with an entry level job at a shop. If no formal training is available it's common for noobs to help out at shops until they can perform work worth paying for. I've used that method all my life to gain skills and it pays off nicely. Though I'm already a decent mechanic I worked at a bros used car lot for a few months for specific car and truck building experience (many lots build stock from wrecks bought at auction plus many salvage parts from their or other donors) for all the parts I could pull for myself and they bought meals and drinks. It was better then a tech school and I brought gear I had they didn't like good cordless tools and a portable cutting torch.

Mechanics worth a shit always have more work than they can perform. If you are serious and have time, take a vo-tech course to start and learn modern electronics, fuel management and drivability diagnosis. You can work your way up to owning a used car lot, and stashing wrecks in back for parts then eventual scrapping. Learn how auto auctions work by attending them in EXPERIENCED company.

Construction is cyclic and there are far more unemployed jackleg "carpenters" than mechanics.

>I would be able to invest around 5k
that is absolutely nothing
>>
If you already have some cash set aside, don't be in a hurry to spend it. Self-emploiyment will take a few years of learning, then working on the side, then seeing how you fit into the local ecosystem.

One reason I suggest wrenching is the cost of all your equipment is EASILY repaid even if you only fix what you own. I've done that all my life and though my main income was my career, DIY made me better at everything. No new car notes, no new homes, very low overhead, total convenience, getting my shit fixed correctly, all combine to pay off. If I didnt DIY I'd still have to work instead of being able to fully retire at 47.

How old is OP? Education level? Criminal record? Health? All those matter in career planning.

Getting the fuck out of your shit town is best idea. Come back to retire cheap after making money elsewhere. The South is a comfy place to retire.

I want to get a consensus on box liners. As a /diy/ enthusiast my first thought was to either plan a 1/2" plywood build or some kind of shipping container.

Antone have experience with this? The nearest place I can get a spray in liner is 200 km away and they want to charge me like 2000. The only bonus is they're willing to do my bumpers, wheel wells, undercarriage etc at cost because I know the guy. I feel like I could just let shit rust and trade it in a few years and only spend a couple hundred on wood.

Also the truck is used as a daily driver and occasional scrap metal haul

You can buy truck bed spray liner to use yourself from online sites. Prepwork sucks though.

>>
Never seen a truck with squared wheel wells before. Rino liner is about 400 here and xliner about 250. 2000 is a good price for all you said he's doing.

This is on thing I recommend you let the pros do.
>>
>>1040975
Don't do wood. It will absorb rainwater and hold it for long periods of time, which will make your rust problem worse.

So it's like Compression Moulding you're interested in?

https://preciousplastic.com/en/videos/build/compression/

I've done some small scale Injection Moulding of PP, but never anything like your pic - mainly because shredding large amounts of plastic without a Shredder is somewhat tedious.
>>
>>1040216
You incidentally need a shredder, or spend time making it as small as possible by hand when you cut it up.

I find that you need to only use a little bit of plastic at a time. Heat that up, press, add more, repeat. Keep it hot at all times. Otherwise, it takes fucking forever to heat up.

I use a toaster oven. You should make a small press using a bottle jack, google designs for DIY apple cider presses and scale it down.

Hey guys. What's the best way to go about switching all 2 prong outlets to 3 prong? We've lived in this house (built in the 60s) for several years and I'm tired of having to use adapters. The problem is I know absolutely nothing about electrical work and don't want to fuck it all up or burn the place down. What do you recommend, /diy/?

>>
>>1039446
>his house does not have a single ground circuit
[worry intensifies]
>>
>>1039446
If there is no ground anywhere in the house (which is likely in your case) then the only way to do it correctly is to attach a 3rd wire to every outlet that you want to change to 3 prong, then run those 3rd wires out to a common point on the outside of your house and physically attach them to a copper rod and bury the copper rod underground. Don't quote me on it, but I beleive the code is something like a 1/2" or 1" diameter copper rod that is atleast 4' long and pushed in to the ground atleast 4' (so you end up getting a 5' rod so that some of it is still above ground so you can attach wires to it).

Basically what this means, to do it right, you run 3-conductor romex along the paths that you have 2 conductor romex running now. Then wire up 3 pole outlets, connect the white and black wires to the breaker box just like they were previously, then connect the green wire to ground. It's a very time consuming process running new sections of wire, and an electrician will charge you through the nose for the labor involved.

If you want to do it yourself for cheap, you may just consider doing one or two plugs where you need three prongs the most. Continue replacing one outlet at a time, maybe once a month or so, for a year until you have them all done.
>>
>>1039454
Sometimes it's possible to make it a little easier by attaching your new 3 conductor wire to the old 2 conductor wire at the outlet, then pull the old 2 conductor out from the breaker box end, and your new 3 conductor wire will come through the wall along the same path that the old wire was using. Only works for certain paths though because romex is more rigid than flexible.

when it comes to power tools.

there's only a couple things I look at.

Induction > Brushed;motors
Amp rating, are you right around 14 or so amps for a standard 120? okay you've got the power, move on.
RPM of the motor/blade itself, typically you want something with HIGH torque, and lower RPM [1000]s or High RPM, with lower torque, [3000]s

then everything comes down, how would the track feel? is it plastic? is it flexable/flimsy? generally cheap?

and finally, how does the tool fit in YOUR hand?

and for a question for you OP. why do you need a track saw? do you plan on cutting lots of MDF/PLYWOOD? that's all their really useful for. other stuff they "could do" but its either sketchy, or just plain easier on a tablesaw.
>>
>>1037822
you'll be fine with any of the top brands.
>>
>>1037822

Since its in the pic and is s brand rarely mentioned I thought I'd chime in with my two cents.

I've had a Triton portable table with saw, also a Triton router that works like a dream. Can also be set up for a jigsaw, if you don't have a bandsaw, I'm pushed for space so the tiny table suits me to a tee and can be used with sawhorses or a trestle table to extend for larger sheets or lumber.

Been very happy with the whole setup. Both the saw and router are solid and reliable. I bought the whole lot secondhand as a bundle so I don't know how price compares.

I'm not at home atm but I think it's a WCA201, may be an earlier model though.

Used Stanley planes made before 1965 or so. Sargent/Craftsman weren't bad either. Same for Millers Falls. Stanley Handyman series were meh tier. Estate sales, flea markets etc. Don't go by eBay prices.

>Why is there hardly any middle ground between throwaway tier and men's jewelry tier hand planes?
Because the market is so small. They either need to make cheap garbage that they sell at a huge (compared to cost of manufacture) or something thats really nice but at a huge markup to cover the very limited number they will produce.
>>
>>1036124
Stanley sweet heart line is pretty good for the price. Lots of one off custom hand plane markers now days too. If you buy a cheap plane with blade chatter. You can either order or make a new plane blade Thats thicker material. I have a cheap craftsman low angle (more medium) and it was kinda crappy. But I switched the blade out with 1/8" stock thickness. Holy shit batman the thing is a whole new beast.

Buy cheap. Upgrade cheap. Get gewd. Finding planes at a flea market is super rare here in florida. Best are estate sales desu.
>>
>>1036124
Go to antique stores and estate shops, or the occasional home estate sale.
Great tools can be had for almost no money, the tools might need some TLC.

When you buy a house in a cozy neighborhood, it comes with responsibility to do your part to keep it cozy for everyone. Part of that means not disturbing the peace with loud music at 3AM, part of it means keeping your pit bull from tearing the neighbor's kids to shreds, part of it means not shooting bullets into the sides of your neighbor's houses, and most importantly, it means keeping your gardens and lawns tidy.

>native
