Wow. Kudos for doing it but man did she do it wrong. The tools she used for the rabbets were particularly terrible. 15 passes with a circular saw, then a chisel, then a belt sander? Just draw some lines on it and hit it with a hand saw. Two cuts. Done. If you need it super smooth a pass or two with a rabbet plane and you are good to go. It is like $40 in tools and takes half the time. Even with the dados the chisel should have been the final step.

And I guess she just doesn't need to use that door ever again either.

>Reminds me of diresta
That's not a good thing. The guy has some nice ideas but his skill is pretty lacking. His current skill level is that of a guy who installs kitchen cabinets for a living and has all the parts prefabed at the shop by a draftsman with a CNC router.

I've been wondering for a while how feasable it would be to make a cheap motor compatible with hasbro's beyblade parts.

My thinking is using a motor for the base of the blade and stacking the attack rings on top.

I only know school shit when it comes to circuits but would be willing to read up on how create/power a motor.

Anyone know any good starting points for this?

OP here, I'm inclined to do something as described in this video since it utilises a screw.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux-QGhbjOA0

I'm thinking the screw can be replaced with a big bolt that can hold all the parts together (if fastened somehow at the bottom) and the magnet and battery can be placed above the spinning top, with the wire running down the outside.

Is there any way to do this with a watch battery though?
>>

I haven't decided which motors do go for. Pic related are the two parts that I'd like to fasten with a bolt.

I'm now thinking of skipping the motor entirely and using a magnetic bolt like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Geocache-nano-magnetic-bolt-silver-metalic-grey-/252321556533

Placing a battery on top and then taping a wire anywhere on the blade as it is all metal. The bolt (and therefore the whole body) should spin since it's magnetic, right? I wouldn't need any neodynium magnets.

I'm going to make some rings because I am bored and I have these bones that I want to use. I was thinking of cutting them into little cubes and gluing them together so that I could have more workable material (basically a laminate but with 1 x 1 x 1 cubes). Is this possible? I am mostly just an amateur tinkerer. I was also thinking of maybe cutting thin slivers of the bone and gluing it in with wood then making wood bone laminate rings.

Hey /diy/

A know nothing amateur here.

Alittle vague but..
Interested in getting into electrical/networking as a hobby.
Things like setting up home speakers through a house, setting up my own camera security system..
Maybe even more advanced inner wiring of simple machines.

And on the other side, Networking machines.
For example, I got the amazon fire stick and follows the directions for the fire stick to send out a ping to my cpu so I could "hack" it.

How do all of these ideas relate?
How easy/quick is it to get good at any one of these?
Can you guys give me a very high level paragraph explanation of these things to start me off?

Any light to guide the way would be helpful

Look into 'low voltage wiring' Enjoy spending lots of time in crawl spaces and above drop down ceilings running wire.
>>
I mean if you can measure cut and connect a cat 6 cable your are set for networking your house. Most security cameras can be powered and monitored though said cable.

Speakers are super easy. the same rules apply. Measure and cut the cable and cap off with end connectors. Depending on your setup you might need to solder a bit, or you might need to just screw the connectors on.

I have no idea what a firestick it and how it's used. But it might have debug pins inside it that you could connect to your serial port and than run it because you don't know assembly from a hole in the ground. How to i know this. Well you can ping a central processing unit you can ping a network address.

Install gentoo and get good at programing if you want to "hack" anything ever.

sup /diy/

I have some DVD's and blurays. I have the corresponding video files on my media player. I got the files from downloading torrents and what-not. Thing is, the included subs on the downloads that i have suck, and they're also missing the commentary tracks for the TV shows.

Is there a way to JUST rip the audio tracks and subs from my DVD's and Blu-rays? My computer is complete shit(C2D, 4gb of ram) so transcoding the video would take an obscene amount of time(I tried doing 1 episode and it was saying 2+ hours for low-compression HEVC. Not practical for 100+ episode series) so redoing everything isnt practical. Mixing the downloaded files with the audio and subs i rip from the disc is way better, if its possible.

I tried using handbreak but there does not seem to be the option to *JUST* rip sections of the file... Its either Video on its own, or video + other stuff.

Same person here, only an idiot would use HEVC at this particular moment.
HEVC (H.265) is an experimental codec that offers only 10-20% more compression over H.264, in exchange for 3-5x the encoding times.

What you are looking for is not an encoder. You are looking for a muxer for a container format like MKV.
The software MKV Toolnix can mux multiple video and audio streams together, along with miscellaneous stuff like subtitles and cover art.

Hot tub restoration.

Got this free hot tub. I know it has 1 small leak. Not sure about the heater and pumps yet, but i can repair or replace as needed.

What I would like to accomplish - refinish the inside with flat black gelcoat, inseart several 5mm leds into the actual fiberglass or at least around the top but submerged and facing down. Ideally i will have my buddy (a pro pinstriper/artist) lay some glow in the dark designs and have the 5mm be UV or backlight. Repar the rest as needed.

Possibly converting the heatsource to 1 or 2 used natuaral gas hot watter hearters if it proves to be more cost effective.

I have a better idea than the shitty broken wood stand and panels that are on it wich I may post if I get the details wirked out.

I have dona a little fiberglass, plumbing, carpentry, etc.... so i believe i can pull this off even though it is a seemingly large project. For me anyway...

The problems I need yall for would be the cracks in the pics. Im assuming i can just rough it up with some 60-80 grit and lay patches over it? Should i grind the cracks down and fill them with resin?

I likely will patch any famiberglass holes from the back or maybe lay an extra layer of mat. I'm just worried about future cracking. If i'm commiting to this i want it to last a long time.

Also. The 5mm led i have used in the last have a plastic holder. You drill a hole and insert the ring and led so it is surface mounted then. I'm worried about the obvious problems of several hundred holes and leaks. Do i just lay a layer of fiberglass over them or is there some sort of quality epoxy i should gob on the back of them?

Leaks aren't a super large concern since my stand for it will be easy access and there is no floor under it thst would be hurt by water damage.

Anyone ever taken on a project like this? Perhaps a fiberglass boat or subwoofer box?

Any tips or input welcomed. Plus, related projects.

I always use several layers of electrical tape. It makes it a little harder to tighten and replace spoke nipples but otherwise works fine.

Some people save their old punctured tubes and cut ribbons out of them.

What are some of your favorite DIY scenes that Hollywood made? The best one I've ever seen was the counterfeiting scene from "To Live and Die in LA". The director wanted it to be so authentic they hired real counterfeiters in it.

I think it was that movie with radio that could talk back in time.

There's a scene where a guy is alone in an office and knows someone is about to walk through the door to arrest him. He splashes a cup of coffee under the door, unplugs a lamp, rips the power cable out of it, strips wire with his teeth, connects one wire to the door handle and puts the other in the coffee puddle, then plugs it back into the wall.
>>
>>1044197
would that work irl tho? would he not need to be not wearing shoes, and for the coffee to be really conductive?
>>
>>1044200
Just touching one live wire on the doorknob would give someone a startling shock.

If the shoes weren't a good insulator it could cause involuntary muscle contractions in including the heart. Electricians wear insulating work boots to prevent situations like this, so I don't think an average pair of shoes offers much protection.

I've got some ideas swirling around in my brain to make a portable speaker out of an ammo box. (pic related)
Theres a plethora of DIY stuff on them, bot none of them really show what i'm thinking.

My idea is to use a couple of car speakers, and a head unit form a car. in theory it should work, but how would i be able to power it?
Can i just tie into the speakers hot wiring without frying anything? Where would i be able to tie a ground to? I'm kind of doubting that I'd be able to use the box itself as a ground.
I feel like using a head unit would be the quickest/easiest and most direct way of getting everything i need out of a boom box. Plus, I can basically get all the materials needed for free.
any input of it would be cool.

Hobby lipos would work good for powering it. 3 cell would put out about 13 volts fully charged.

There would be no need for a ground. Most car speakers have 2 terminals like regular speakers.

A car head unit is kind of big. There are small FM, bluetooth, SD card, flash drive units on ebay for not much money that can be output to a small stereo amp.

Hey /diy/ over the next year I am going to be working on a small riverboat for a Louisiana swamp on and off, I just want to get some tips if anyone knows anything about boat-making. I am kinda limited on materials because poor as fuck, but I have a near infinite amount of cherry and oak boards for use. I intend on using a large tarp for the sail, the goal is to make this build as economical as possible and easily repeatable for the average joe in shitsville to make with relative ease.

So I decided to get rid of some nasty linoleum flooring that came with the house when I first bought it and replace it with decent tile. However, after I took it all off, the linoleum left this black stick residue that's not coming off. I tried scraping, sanding, acid, and a wire brush but to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings.

I'll get right to it.

I'm going to build a modern Macintosh out of a G4 Cube.

This is a project that will be extremely difficult (for me) , but I hope it goes well.

I'm planning on actually using this machine too, so it won't be just a toy.

Any advice for someone who isn't very experienced at this sort of thing?

Any kind of help is appreciated.

Also. This is the guide that i'll be using. Any thoughts?
