I have an aluminium plaque that I need to clear the oxidation and paint from. The paint is corrosion resistant. So far we've tried white spirits, nail polish remover, and some regular paint/varnish stripper. White spirits did nothing, the nail polish remover seemed to soften the paint but it's not very good. We're currently in the process of trying the stripper, but it doesn't seem to help much either. Has anyone got any recommendations for a)stripping the paint from the nooks and crannies of the etching on the front, and b)removing the aluminium oxide buildup?

We don't have easy access to one. Is there any other method?

Citric acid will, but it will take a long, long soak in anything other than concentrated citric. MEK will also clear it, but it may fuck up your piece too, so I wouldn't use that.

I recently won a Siemens Simatic S7-1200 PLC with software license in a SkillsUSA competition. I'm learning to do PLC programming as part of my degree, but I'm at a loss as to what I should do with this thing. I was thinking about putting a switch panel in my car to control various functions, but this PLC needs a 24v supply and my car battery is 12v. Is there any way around that?
I've also been thinking of an automated bong system, but I'm not sure if it would be viable. Any other ideas for a project I could use this in?

Good choice, m80. I just hope your industry doesn't die as soon as you win medals like mine did

I've just made a batch of guncotton with potassium nitrate and sulphuric acid, and now I need a cannon to fire it out of.

I usually work in theoretical Physics, so my practical engineering skills are lacking - how should I go about making my cannon?

The main thing I am not confident about is how the touchhole/priming of a makeshift cannon is usually done.

>>
>>1048039
Pretty sure they use a drill, anon, maybe an end mill. But if your main concern is how to make the touchhole and not "how do I keep from blowing my ass into 5.23x10^11 pieces," you may want to think about the whole scheme a little bit more.
>>
>>1048047

I think its safe.

Firstly, guncotton is very weak and the cannon is very small.

Secondly, I'll obviously duck behind a hillock or something before it goes off.

The risk to me is minimal - its just it would be annoying if the cannon broke

So, guys, im in the middle of swapping my cars engine and i do not know how to connect alternator and starter. I've got engine wiring which is quite a bit cut - most of plugs are gone but i managed to figure out whats what. Now, the engine is 1.8 K-Series rover engine, no vvc or turbo. There are 4 wires left - brown-violet (x2) brown-yellow(which i presume is control light on dashboard for alternator) and white-brown. Any mechanics could help?

I need help finding info on an ic chip. The two burnt ones are the same as the two next to the other gray chip. It looks like they read 4406 bd5d26. I cant find any info on them. Any help would be great. If anyone know the manufacturer that might help.

Maybe you would get more answers if you told us if that pcb goes in your dildo controller or if it is for something else.
>>
>>1047869
Not sure what it's for. My guess is its a voltage regulator. This is the motherboard from an hp nx9600. Not sure how that will help.
>>
>>1047847
First thing you can glean from the board is that each ic contains a single mosfet.
Why? because there are only three connections to the ic (all four pins on one side commoned up, three pns on the other side commoned up and one lone pinon the same side).
I'll take a look around and see if I can come up with more info.

I'd like to make a small camera to screen device, preferably with the Arduino. Something "simple" really, a camera outputting to a small screen through an Arduino.
Problem is, there are quite a lot of models, and I'm not sure which to choose from :(
Any help ?

Bumping for interest. I am trying to do something similar, but I don't know how to start.
>>
I got some advice from a friend, he told me I should first should the camera, then see which Arduino interfaces with it. Then pick the one fitting the best for my needs (Input/output options, computing power)
>>
You dont even need arduino for this.
Get a camera that outputs rca ( pretty much any board camera) and a screen that accepts rca

For retail, check here: ul.Górecka 164, Poznań, Poland. If you prefer A4 rather than A2 (although the latter are sufficient), then try Powstańcza 7/1.

However, I'd recommend you to by an ericsson (or similar) nut instead. It's easier to control than your round coupling nuts.

With a box of screws, some bar stock, a hacksaw and file, a drill press and a tap, you could make your own. This IS /diy/ after all.

sup /diy/, I think I found myself a bunch of wild truffles growing near my house. What should I do to set up a truffle farming area?

It's the trees that the truffles are growing near, the roots are inoculated with the fungus. Check for the same trees nearby, I'm assuming they're oaks.

Hello /diy/. I am looking for help to build some clocks as a hobby. I did some online searching for clockwork kits but only found tools, no actual "build it yourself" clocks. I have a feeling I may have used the wrong keywords or something but I cant think of what I did wrong.

I am also looking for programs that I can use to sculp the pieces of machinery in 3d on my computer and maybe tutorials on how to use said programs. This relates both to the homemade clocks I want to build and some other projects for the future. I tried Blender but it seems more geared to 3d video and image rendering instead of sculpting and autocad looked like only good for floorplants and construction plans.

Could I get some pointers on where to look and what topics to search?

autodesk inventor or solidworks (student editions are cheap). google sketchup might work too and its free.

if you are going to be making your parts with a 3D printer you won't need any CAM software usually, but if you don't have a makerbot or something you are probably going to have to use a CNC machine.

you can always just print 2D gear templates and hand file them, but good luck. that shit takes infinite patience and hand skill.

>>
>>1047657
I do not have acces to a 3d printer, but I do have some conections to be able to get access to some higher end machinery to cut pieces from metal.

I will look up the programs you said and start doing some sketching on the weekend.

I still find it odd that there doesnt seem to be DIY kits for building clocks for hobbyists. It seems like such an obvious thing...
>>
>>1047658
clocks are actually precise machines. anybody can slap some gears together but making a clock that keeps accurate time is a bitch.

Help! how do i get the red wire back in where it needs to go.
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1047637
I always just use my 66 tool but I believe those were actually designed with screwdrivers' in mind. Lay the red wire across one of the slots in the metal strip for the red and push across the wire with a screwdriver on one side them the other.

Don't touch green or ground unless you want a little tingle. Or go unplug your wiring at the demarc before you work on it.

In a nutshell I have a charging station for a battery currently, but as of now the batteries can only plug into the one 4s slot. So what I've been doing is plugging them into two separate boards each with their own balance to my DC supplier.

So I was wondering where can I find a board with 3 of these "4s" ports with two balances to my DC supplier so I can have a nice efficient way of doing this.

I put this 6x6x4 inch waterproof electrical box on a tall square pole and put a POE switch inside it to power a few security cameras. I drilled a small hole in the back to get power and 1 cat5 cable in, as they ran through the internals of the pole. I then punched the hole out of the bottom for the wires from the cameras to enter it.

Am I paranoid to have liberally caulked the entire box and elevated the switch as far from the hole as possible? I don't even want the humidity in the air to enter that box.

Is anyone else as big on waterproofing, or is this overkill?

You're supposed to use cable glands for outdoor IP66+ enclosures.

I work for a company that makes outdoor LED power boxes and our enclosures are vented with a gore membrane vent.
>>
Honestly, if at all possible, I'd put the switch inside and run cable up the pole.
