All of /diy/ finds itself in a forest on massive island somewhere in the pacific with nothing but a hammer a saw and an ax. Post what would happen.

/diy/ composes roughly of 30% professionals of various trades, 30% of blue collars, 30% of low income/neets, and 10% woman.
The professionals and blue collars will quickly form functioning teams as they recognise the importance of team work. The neets and the woman follow.
With their tools they quickly made some basic shelters with the trees and plants. Primitive technology is seen having influence.
However, social tension and chaos quickly arise after the populace grew tired of the food, and the neets grew sick from lack of anime. The massively biased man to woman ratio also makes an effect.
With no sign of any help from the rest of the world, they quickly realise they will not survive long if any disease breaks out.
They start to fight and divide into groups. Many died from murder and disease.
Slowly the populace transformed into a new tribal culture based on the holy artefacts of modern hammer, saw and axe. They will whisper of the legendary infinite knowledge of the all knowing 4chan. A hunter gatherer society arise from the few remaining families, and humanity basically gone back 10,000 years.
Two generations later, the rising sea level flooded the island, killing all remaining anon and anonsons.
Two thousand years later, Tesla explorers from Mars will uncover a strange island in the middle of the sea, with nothing but some remains of a primitive society. All will be forgotten, except the cast iron dildo a random anon secretly produced and carefully preserved with wax and amber, which is now a display in a poly crystal casing in the Old Planet Museum on the orbit of Earth, titled "OP's favourite toy", a name that is found carved on the artefact itself.

dont see one in the catalog, so post the projects you're working on and how theyre coming along!
currently working on the prototype/proof of concept for my inverter generator using a lightly modified predator 212, a $160 200 amp alternator i scored for $30, and a 1500 watt cheapo inverter.
heres a video of it running unloaded. i may need to step up the engine size because when i put it under very high load (at least 150 amps pulled by the inverter) it bogs the engine super hard even at wide open throttle to the point where it bent the brackets and shredded the belt because of the misalignment.
Here's a project i just completed today.
I took two separate pens and made them completely inseparable.
I call it...
The double-pen.

I'm designing some rolling workbenches for my limited shop space. I'd like to be able to join them lengthwise or widthwise to make a chop saw station or a big assembly table. They will have locking casters but I would like to be able to fix them together semi-permanently.
I was thinking I could buy hardware to lock them together but I'm not sure what is available. I've been looking at hardware I've used for dining room table leafs and fixing them on the bottom. I could even position them to join different length tables together. I know that hardware needs to be rather tight so I was worried it might be difficult to use. Is there something more forgiving? What do you suggest?
Use a couple of mortise and wedged tenons with some 2x4s, easiest by far
>>1094779
I plan on making them out of 3/4" plywood. I'm not sure how I would incorporate that sort of joinery into the design. How would I set it up to join two workbenches temporarily using that? It will need to be flush on both sides.

Use 2 of each on the front/back.

I'm sanding a piece of cherry, and I'm not sure why, but it's really, really smooth, until I wipe the dust off with a damp cloth.
The damp wood feels really "fuzzy" by comparison.
I started the sanding with 90 grit, then 150, 240 and finally 400.
I'm using two orbital sanders.
FYI, I'm building a display case for my wife's Marine Corps dress uniform sword.
Any ideas?
The d@mp cloth might be making the dust clump up. Try blowing the dust off instead.
If that's not working, then you need to spend more time on each grit, although it this point you can probably skip 90.
>>1094685
You're raising the grain by using a damp cloth. Hit it again with your higher grit papers, just a quickie to knock off the fuzz. Try to sand against the fuzz. If you're not using water based finish then wipe the dust off with a dry cloth and apply finish. If you're using water based finish go ahead and raise the grain again, then sand down one more time, then apply finish.
Hi
I would like to build a Homestead complete with farm, sauna, and yurt not unlike pic related or Earthship.
But I haven't really nailed it yet: 1st I need some land 2nd I need to decide the exact architecture of my structure.
I am requesting any information regarding minimalist dachas or Thoreau-ian homesteading. I am attempting to do this by hand.
Much appreciated^^
Also requesting any farming/gardening tips and construction ideas.
My apologizes if this is a repost, but I was so excited to ask.
What?
Pic related, I'll start... which one of you rascals was responsible?
Pallets can have over a ton stacked on them. And since you'd need at least 3 americans to go over that an no more than 2 would fit on a single step, it's sound engineering.
This wouldn't have happened underground in shipping containers.

Say I wanted to secure a flexible bearing to a carbon fibre beam to allow it to act as a leaf spring. How could I do this without machining the carbon fibre? I can only think of clamping it but I'm not sure whether the friction would be high enough to fully constrain it
>>1094409
'clamp' by rolling the beam part way around the bearing and securing it with a slightly larger cut tube
>>1094431
You can roll carbon fibre?
>>1094452
you cant?
a sheet should be a little pliable
Hey Folks. I am thinking of making a Canvas with Lyrics printed on/or handwritten ( I don't know yet). That can play the song that i took the lyrics of.
Now my question to you guys is: is there any soundmodule that is better quality of speakers than those from those musiccards but works kind of the same?
Like in my mind you'll be able to push a button and then the song plays once, full lenght (around 4:30min)
Ideal case is if it works with batteries.
electronics123.com
>>1094324
And put a better speaker on the module. The usb modules let you choose the recording quality.
>>1094323
It isn't just a shitty speaker in a shitty enclosure, typically the rest of the module sucks as well. Modules with longer recording times tend to suck more.
Ones with MP3 support are usually better.
Hey guys has anyone ever done deep flash cable in order to unbrick a xiaomi?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFeNSj3ngXY
I'm following this tutorial but everytime I plug-in the usb cable with the alluminium wire the phone still goes to battery charging mode, as it was not supposed to.
Anyone with the minimal eletrical knowledge can explain what am I doing wrong?
Any suggestions are welcome

Bumping cause high beams. Lol.
Not super creative but ended up TOPKEK tier prank. Nobody knows how to shut a fucking door when it's 4 degrees outside so I put 3 damned springs on it.
My most favorite thing in the world is watching people try and open it 3 times or get flat tired by it closing on them.
Mutherfuckers.
All could be avoided if u lazy cunts could be bothered to close a fucking door.
>>1094398
hey thats pretty smart lol
>>1094558
Well, it shitshow now. Mutherfuckers think they are smart trying to prop it open in 13 degree weather with an electric heater on. I told them there is room for 50 more fucking springs
So I need to make a bell out of brass that rings at 921 hz. I was thinking of turning a bell shape on a lathe and then spinning a piece of brass over the form. But I have no idea what size to make the form in order to get close to 921 hertz. I do have experience access to a calibrated mic in order to tune the bell. Any suggestions on how to proceed
Must it be a bell?
A lot of variables go into the bells resonant frequency.
A chime or a fork is a lot easier to tune, a chime is as simple as cutting pipe to length and taking a few measurements at a few lengths to work out the formula, which can get you very close and you just grind down the last bit to tune it exactly.
It must be a bell. Bells are beautiful and it's a gift.
>>1094165
set up an arduino to play 921hz tone inside the bell when the hammer makes contact with the sides.
Hello /diy/, I'd like to ask you a question.
I'm trying to make an exterior bar counter, so the part you are looking at is working/eating planes with legs in them. The entire piece is foldable, meaning that each part can be separated.
Is there any way to fix those mini holes in pic related, to keep the ability of separation? I mean those where you can see the "radius" is actually bigger.
It is made of oak plywood.
Bump with second pic.
>>1094099
Someone had a shitty router jig. You can clean it up with a router and a proper jig. I think that's what you're asking.
>>1094109
Yeah, it was all done with most primitive technologies, as I had no other tools to use.
I was looking for more of a visual solution. I've read somewhere that you can mix epoxy with splinters and repair it like that, but I'm not sure if I remember it correctly.
If I did it, it would probably glue those parts together right?
>search "forge" find forge thread literally full of dicks...
so, forge thread. I made this candle holder today. What did you make today /diy/nosaurs?
the bottom...
That is lovely. Unfortunately I'll be living in an apartment for the next decade so no forging for me. Unless I go build one at parents house?
>>1094016
thanks:)
I was rushed while making it, it would have been so much better had I taken the time, guess just have to make a new one.
btw, if you search around you might be able to find a hackerspace/makerspace/open garage/whatever that have an anvil and a fire.
Plus, with a propane or electric oven you can easily forge small things in a garage or storage box.
pic is an flame caught in my forge
My house is build into a hillside with the street at the base. As a result, the fenceline is about 10' above the road, around the second story. Over the years the fence (originally built in the 60s) rotted away so a new one needs to be built. Problem is, dirt has eroded away so there is no space for a new fence.
So, I want to do this. I'd be a 10' high cinderblock retaining wall with a 10' high cinderblock wall on top. Is there anything fucked with this design? I don't know if I can pour concrete onto drainable aggregate without it fucking up. If I can't, can I get away with using regular dirt instead of something drainable? Also to be clear the walls themselves would be filled with concrete and rebar.
>>1093991
Dude. You are trying to nigger rig a retaining wall.
Don't. Don't reinvent the wheel.
Look up retaining wall constructions.
Also, you don't put a plastic sheet like that, it won't drain like that.
Also, your drawing means fuck all without proper dimensioning. Information on ground condition and nearby vegetation will be important also.
>>1094000
my original idea was to just build a big concrete form and do a massive concrete block
>>1094000
would I be better off just splitting the base into two 5' walls instead?
