I recently bought a small plant of mint since i want to make some mint tea and have it at hand, but i want also get the most from the plant.
My main concerns are:
-How can i make it last the longest before it dies? (it's even supposed to die?)
-How, when and how much should i harvest the leaves? Does picking too many leaves harms the plant? What can i do to feed the plant back the necessary material to grow back new leaves? How much time does it takes to grow new leaves?
-I've heard that direct water ruins the plant and the leaves, it is possible to store the plant inside since i have no ways to cover it in case of rain at the moment?
-Any precautions i may have missed?
I hope you guys can help me out.

Divide it every few months to more pots. It grows like crazy. The type of mint determines if it likes water or not. Catnip likes sandy dry soil while pepperment loves growing right in wet sandbars of streams.
I'd pick the plant tops, then it'll branch out.
It likes a lot of light so I don't know how it would do indoors
The spearmint on the side of my house in Missouri comes up every spring.
>>1151814
I dont think they die because I planted some outside my house so I could make lots of mojitos and taboulli but it took over my side yard. It even went under the fence into my neighbors yard and invaded his vegetable bed 15 ft away and now he is mad at me and wants me to kill it. They start to look scrappy where the old growth is but the newer areas look nice still.
I'm thinking of making a lathe. Seems pretty straightforward.
The motor has me somewhat concerned though. I'm not sure how to go about it.
What type of motor do you think I could use that has decent torque as well as good speed?
Should I use a variable speed motor or should I use some cone gears?
Can I cannibalize some tool (like an electric weed wacker)?

Meh, I think you would do well by buying a lathe.
Lathes are made with the tool rest being quickly adjustable and mated solidly to the cast iron ways. Matthias Wandel's diy lathe design is a joke. The moment you touch a gouge to a bowl you risk the tool/blank becoming a missile to the face.
Unless you have the capability to smelt your own iron and cast yourself a lathe just go to Harbor Freight and take a 20% off coupon with you.
>>1151808
I agree, an actual lathe would be a much better option. Have you ever worked with any brands you can recommend?
I'm going through the HF coupons right now... I've also been looking for one on craigslist but everything is 300+.
I live in a rural area so options seem to be limited . I was trying to set a budget of 200 at most.
>>1151804
What size work piece are you working on?
This mini lathe uses a small DC motor hooked to a recumbent, pedal power, electric generator. It differs in that I use a Dremel to make up for the lack of torque. The top of the work piece spins away from me. That way it doesn't jam the Dremel bit which is laid on top. This is great for fishing lures and chess pieces. If you ever use a Dremel with a normal lathe it can get you killed because the top of the work piece is rotating towards you; which can catch and lever the Dremel right up into your face. I know someone who actually tried that with his lathe and got that result.

This entire thing is made from literal junk and salvaged trash. It even has a small vacuum that sucks the swarf and dust through a water filter then a normal air filter.

hey /diy/ i'm trying to learn some stuff before i go off building a cabin, feel free to laugh if i'm being an idiot.
essentially what i am trying to accomplish is building a cabin, with 2 car garage, with a car pit and room underneath measuring about 10'x10' boath with a roughly 6' depth.
what can i use as the garage floor to support the weight? how should i go about making it watertight? will cinderblock walls work, it's almost impossible to get a cement truck in here so the plan so far is to use a portable mixer for the floor and to fill the inside of the blocks.
>>1151080
>garage floor
reinforced concrete
>watertight
appropriate drainage strategy and construction
>cinderblocks walls
sure
>portable mixer
ok
>>1151080
thick wood across steel beams for garage floor would work just fine
>>1151080
you are going to work the shit out of that little mixer.
keeping water out of a basement is a bitch. you need exterior drainage and a good amount of moisture barrier.
What camera do people use in those PUA videos where they go onto the street and record themselves talking with people?
Any advice for a Mic/camera that is small enough to attach to clothing and go unnoticed?
How do you set it up?
>>1150857
Tons of cheap ink pins and sunglasses. I know people that use them. Even the chinkshit ones are reliable these days.
You could easily hid gopro behind a hat if you wanted.
You will have to wear the hat like a tool, but chances are you're a tool already
Just wear one of these things. People will think you're just wearing glasses.
What's /diy/'s verdict on multitools? Should I just buy a couple knipex, a knife and a multi bit screwdriver for the same price?
>>1150291
They're great if you're in a jam and have nothing else, but they are useless to have in a legitimate tool box.
>>1150291
Almost everything on them is useless.
Skeletool or skeletool cx. Light weight emergency pliers, best screwdriver, even among leathermen, one handed knife opening with a good lock.
>>1150291
only thing i actually use on them are pliers, knife, and screwdriver tips
that would be the ideal multitool - an extremely thin one with just those functions
So, been working robotic welding recently, and I have noticed that I do a lot of grinding, more than usual.
I use my electric corded and cordless grinder, but of course they wear out over time, due to the brushes.
Was thinking, is it worth getting a air angle grinder?
Does anyone have experience with them? I asked around my shop, and no - one has ever used a 4" angle grinder.
>>1150244
I've been welding out of school at a specialty shop in WI for around 2 years. I've been using the same milwaukee grinders, one of which is a 7", for that entire period and have not had any issues except for the safety triggers. There have been times I've ran the same grinder stripping paint for 4 hours at a shot. You might not be using good angle grinders.
To directly answer your question, yes I've used air tools like that before, but I've found that the wheels are more expensive. Aside from actual cost, you should remember that standard 4 1/2" angle grinders have many different attachments like crimped and cup wire wheels, sanding pads like flap discs, and many different wheels from diamond to aluminum. Along with cutting wheels, the versatility is great.
are you killing electric grinders daily through dust ingestion?
working in a trench of wet filth?
grinding non-sparking material in an environment of explosive dust?
grinding while diving underwater?
no? you don't need one.
NEXT!
>>1150244
>due to the brushes
So change the brushes. A set of brushes will run you about the same as a bottle of air tool oil. In my experience the only advantage that air grinders have going for them is the lack of a motor making compact for getting into tight spots. A full size air angle grinder seems like a novelty tool for weird situations like>>1150313
>Job interview for a Trainee CAD Technician for Structural engineering
I have a few mechanical engineering designs that I did at my last job. Should I take them to show them, or does it breach some type of confidentiality agreement?
I don't want them to think I'm not trust worthy by showing them designs from another (albeit unrelated) company.
Also, what should I research before going to see them?
>>1150134

If you don't know how to use revit....Good luck buddy. Also, the best structural technicians actually know something about building structures.
Scrub the names of my designs.

>>1150570
How long does revit take to learn?
I'm comfortable solid modelling and using autocad, but I haven't used revit.
>>1151063
its all the same shit really. learning CAD is like learning programming. once you get the first one down, the others are trivially easy to pick up.
Can someone explain how I would go about getting internet to my shed.
I have wifi in my house, and it would be handy to be able to watch youtube guides in my shed when I'm doing things.
I've looked on google, but I can't find a simple explanation, and I know very little about routers etc.
Pic unrelated.
Long Lan cable. Attach it to another router in shed. Use that router in bridge mode.
what kind of money do you want to sink in this?
what kind of hardware do you have so far installed in your house?
cheapest would be to lay a ethernet cable from your router/modem to the shed and put an AP there for 10-20 bucks.
without cable, you need something like two CPE201 for 100 bucks
>>1149684
Ideally I'd like to spend less than £200 which is about $250
Wireless would be ideal, I will look into CPE 201 cheers mate

How can I become a night blood like on the 100?
http://the100.wikia.com/wiki/Grounders/Nightblood
you have to be 18+ to post here.
and a little food for thought, don't ruin your body permanently for a temporary desire. sit on the idea for a couple of years and save up during that time to get it done. Whenever you mutilate yourself, you leave yourself vulnerable to a number of issue.
I am of age, why did you think I am not?
As for self mutilation, how is this mutilation, no functionality is lost and it is only cosmetic.
How is it any different than a tattoo.
Vulnerable to what issues?
>>1148857
So basically you want to have black blood? Are you mentally deficient?
Seconding >>1148945, 4chan is a site for adults and most of them are children pretending to be adults, but you are neither - you're a child acting like a child.
Do you know what happens when you inject water, of all substances, into your bloodstream? It's not pretty, and it will kill you.
Any multitude of things could go wrong with injecting yourself with shit to make your blood black, not the least of which is a change in viscosity causing blood clot issues or heart issues stemming from its failure to pump your now sludge-like blood.
If you went to a hospital and they drew blood and it was black, they could go off on a wild goose chase trying to find out what was wrong with you, costing you a shit ton of money and a lot of time.
You're an idiot, don't do it.

Second. Build yourself a reinstall kit with a downloaded Windows .iso, activator if needed for your version, and all your drivers and apps. Plenty of info on the net.
