Can I make a IR or UV "Refrigerator" of sorts? I'm trying to come up with a way of automating feeding my cat wet food from cans.
10 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1152845
how would that work?
IR / UV are wavelengths of electromagnetic energy. if you add energy to something it usually heats up, unless you can get it to trigger some reaction i suppose.
what does that have to do with feeding cats? canned cat food doesn't belong in a fridge. does it?
>>
>>1152847
ir/uv kills bacteria, so I'm wondering if I can leave an opened can of cat food under an ir/uv light for a long period of time and expect it to not spoil. not the traditional function of a refrigerator per se, just aiming to preserve food via another means
>>
>>1152850
bacteria will grow where the light doesn't go. IR doesn't kill bacteria, high intensity UV does.

UV will do a lot of damage to the food itself too. besides, not all bad bacteria are suspectible to UV light.

Realtors seem like a scam. What do they actually do other than post your home on one website that then gets crawled by every single realty website?

What do I need to know if I want to buy or sell a home without a realtor?

If a home is for sale through a realtor, is there anyway to purchase it from the owner without including the realtor?
14 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1152824
I'm not sure why you'd buy a home without a realtor as the seller pays the commission.
>>
>>1152829
>seller pays 12% commission

or

>seller pays 0% commission
>seller passes some of that savings on to the buyer
>>
>>1152824

>If a home is for sale through a realtor, is there anyway to purchase it from the owner without including the realtor?

Sure...but you'll have to wait. When a seller hires an agent, they sign a contract...and if the house sells within the time frame of the contract, then the seller pays the realtor fee...

If the contract is broken early, and the seller still manages to sell the house, they may very well be bound to the time frames of the previous contract...still have to pay the realtors fee...

>>1152835

My last house I sold I payed 4% of selling price...

Do any of you smug cunts work for big tobacco, or at least involved in it?
I'm tired of these bastards acting like physical addiction isn't a problem.
Manual cigarette loaders with a fucking hand crank bring down cost but break after a few cigarettes you're lucky to get through 400 of them. Try looking online and it has no information. Clearly the mechanism is using a torque wrench. It has to be set at a specific poundage for all the widgets to fit, but they just want cunts to buy a new one so it costs as much as taxes as long as it doesn't go to the government so kids die of fucking cancer or some asshole macks it in a pothole and causes an accident when his car loses control.
Should I buy an electronic cigarette maker or does anyone know what pound top sets the torque at the nuts for these fucking things?

If you're that ticked off at big tobacco you're halfway to quitting. Give it a shot, Mr. Troll.
>>

I gave up with the machine rollers. I do it all by hand now. It takes a while, but I smoke way less. I'm actually almost ready to quit. Taking 3 minutes to roll a smoke really sucks. You have to plan it out and ration your smokes. It's rewarding though. Less than a penny a smoke, and I like doing it.

Not much help, but just my 2 cents.
>>
DIY e-juice is cheap.
Smoked 1-3/4 packs/day for decades, now vape for about a quarter a day. I've even kept the cravings satisfied with drops on the tongue when I had bronchitis.

There's a suprising psychological aspect to cigarette addiction, and associations that have to be broken.

Hi /diy/ can anone recommend a pump like in pic related. I used several of them in different aquaponic setups and i recently realised they all start leaking electricity after a while. Sunsun and wiltec were the brands so far.

I haven't found out if its the mechanical parts behind the magnetic bearing or the place where the cable enters the motor housing. Going to test later on today.

I get my sump tanks grounded ASAP, but i need a decent replacement pump.
Any good manufacturers?

just buy one of those cheap 12v replacement pump if it's just for hydroponics.
also consider fogponics, much better.

>>

you can use the reader head
maybe the display if theres a datasheet

various smd passives can be harvested with 2 pencil irons

besides the basic glue logic, everything else is custom and useless
>>
What I meant with "they don't work as swipers" is that they probably can't connect to whatever CC bank network that answers at the other side.
Worth to mention maybe, I picked up literally, a truckload of them, various models. They have been labeled as having various failures like "No backlight", "Tamper", "Printer failure", "Lost keys".

Unfortunately, they seem to have been left overnight under the rain. I guess if they have a battery inside or can be left to dry without opening them.

Most if not all units have a seal (intact) on a couple of screw slots.

Perhaps it's the wrong board, but I'm a sculptor and I've discovered "garage kit" anime/game figures. How are the base sculpts created and cast into separate parts? Do people sculpt these things out of clay first, part it out, and then cast it in casting resin or something? If this is the wrong place, please direct me elsewhere

>How are the base sculpts created and cast into separate parts?
They are sculpted from modelling clay and then a silicone mold is poured around them.
Division into parts is necessary to get a good mold.

Do people sculpt these things out of clay first, part it out, and then cast it in casting resin or something?
Either they make them from clay and pour a mold around it or they are designed in a CAD program and the molds are milled using a CNC machine.
Casting is always done using resin.

I need to make some fountain pen ink. Fuck paying $6 for a tiny bottle of ready made ink. At the moment I'm getting ink out of old printers that people throw out but I only get a couple of drops per cartridge and it's difficult to extract. Has anyone electroplated anything at home for viable usage? In the past, I've plated copper and zinc onto a lot of tools and other outside objects to prevent rust. Copper plating also looks really nice after a few months of corrosion because of that green effect.

Anyway, this board tourist from /o/ has a giant sheet metal of titanium and want to try to do some titanium electroplating since copper sucks with paint and zinc flakes too easily under extreme conditions.

Any strong galvanisation techniques are greatly appreciated. I plan to use the titanium salt + ammonium chloride / hydroxide plating method and compare it to a dilute electroplating solution of nitric acid etcher.

never electroplated anything at home but sounds interesting post pics
>>
Titanium is very difficult to plate because it is both cathodic and annodic
>>
It's like trying to plate with aluminum. Outside of a molten salt bath at an insane temperature all you'll do is break apart water molecules because the electrons don't have the strength to break apart the metal's bonds.

My aluminum shower rod arrived damaged in the mail - one of the pieces are almost broke in half, it's still connected on the bottom.

I'd rather not go through the hassle of fighting with the shipping company or the seller if there is an easy way to make a waterproof repair. Any ideas?

Properly repairing thin-wall aluminum tube would involve TIG welding it.

I'm going to assume that's out of the question, otherwise you would have done it already.

>Just return it

Trips have spoken. I don't know who you got it from, but I've never personally had trouble getting a refund/replacement for an outright DOA item. I haven't even been asked to actually ship it back, in the case of visible, obvious damage.

Otherwise, moosh it back into round as best you can, then wrap some duct tape (or other strong, fiber-reinforced tape) around it.

Sup /diy/.
Planning on making a mask. However, I want to make one that isn't your shitty run of the mill paper mache mask. I would like to make the mask similar to pic related, except I would rather not have all 4 carved out, and only 2 for my eyes. The mask also wouldn't have the LEDs, I would just paint it, along with no discs in the center.

How would I go about making it? What would I use to shape it while I form it, and what material would I use?

Get 2, 1' pieces of 2x6, cut one edge of each at about 75°, glue them together along the angle cut. Shape with whatever: drawknife, spokeshave, rasp, belt sander... Use eye template cut out of cardboard to draw on eyes, cut out with coping saw. Sand, paint, etc.
