Hard to tell without seeing the other side, but it looks like a DIP 24 header.
>>
those kind of extensions were common 20 years ago, but are very rare now. probably your best bet is to make your own using 2 rows of machined female headers and soldering wires.

you want the machined headers, with round pins, not the regular, rectangular headers coz they likely wont fit.
>>
As the anon said, you're better off just making your own rather than trying to find a replacement part which will be just as old anyway.

Any ideas for a DIY vending machine that uses the Aussie 1 dollarydoo coin? Ive seen designs but they're all for US Quarters

I'm sure they make an adapter for dollarydoos
>>
>>1156473
Yeah on official ones, but i want to build a vending machine from scratch and unless i get the width perfect you cant do the size stopper for a coin mechanism with australian money because the 1 dollarydoo is smaller than the 20 and 50 cent

huh, can you post the design you found?

Hi /g/,

I have a UK virgin media hub 3.0, worked fine for 9 months until today. Started getting no connection, and the LED at the bottom is flashing green, and the wifi led is solid green. Have tried to restart and even reset multiple times, and have called support. Engineer booked for 2 days time, but I need my internet connection now. Do any anons have any suggestions as to what I can do now to fix it? Many thanks in advance.

they can remote diagnose those things, if they sending an engineer out (@ £75 call out cost or whatever), its probably fucked. And before they pay a monkey another £25 p/h to turn it upside down and look at it sideways, he'll swap that £15 POS for another POS, end of.

You can try hard reset if possible, then, disconnect everything, switch off for 10 minutes, try again - dunno from pic, but if thats a media receiver (TV etc), HD usually fails1st. Their HW is cheap crap its all a percentage game, cost versus fixing the amount of failures balanced against amount of customers who will fuck off, purely because their boxes are garbage-tier junk.
>>
>>1156151
So the engineer is gonna rock up, scratch his head for 5 mins then grab another one from his van? Thanks for the info though
>>
>>1156143
It got Mirai'd, it is dead and now a zombie botnet, you can't fix this

So I'm looking at installing a rain barrel at the base of one of my downspouts. My question is, you can get a rain barrel that has a spigot for a hose. The water is fed through this hose via gravity, right? If I had a use for a hose (specifically to fill an above ground pool) that was higher than the level of the barrel, would any water come out? Maybe if the barrel was full? Does it have to do with the weight of the water in the barrel?

Pic unrelated

Turn barrel sideways. 2" in. 3/4" (hose) out. Gg.

>If I had a use for a hose (specifically to fill an above ground pool) that was higher than the level of the barrel, would any water come out?
No.

>Maybe if the barrel was full?
No.

>Does it have to do with the weight of the water in the barrel?
No.

Water finds its own level with gravity. You can't make water go above that level unless there is a force acting on it. Like a water pump.

Things like a siphon can make water go above the level temporarily but the exit point has to be below that level or it wont work.

Lets say you want to make a copper half circle, 4' in diameter. You've working with 1/2" copper tubing.

Short of paying somebody with a roller, I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to do it without creating creases in the pipe. Filling it with sand seems to help, but getting the smooth curve is proving difficult.

>>
For the record, that picture is of soft copper tubing, which comes pre-rolled (and not in diameters of what I'm trying to get unfortunately), I'm working with straight 1/2" tubing, like you'd use in standard plumbing fixtures.
>>
I have heard of people ramming them full of sand.

You have annealed them right?

I've not, is that something I can handle with a small handheld torch, or would it require something with more power?

Is it possible to learn to be a welder from home with more inexpensive online bought equipment? I've spent the last two days online watching videos and I can't see where the skill comes in particularly (this is not me trying to downplay skilled welders, just that I'm not able to understand what makes it so difficult from my lack of knowledge).

It's something I want to know alot about but I don't want to have to go to school for it.

>>1155742
It's not difficult, but it is subtle. GMAW is considerably easier to learn than SMAW or GTAW. In every process, you're essentially moving a dime-sized dot of molten metal around. Keeping it at a uniform size, and moving it at a consistent rate are the parts that you need to learn. This comes with practice. Learning goes faster if you're getting feedback from an experienced instructor.

Learn and know all safety procedures. You're playing with electricity, molten metal, actinic light, toxic fumes, and asphyxiant gases. All at the same time. You get exactly 1 fuckup.
>>
I'm certainly not a professional welder but I've dabbled here and there as just general maintenance stuff. As a schooled welding professional it will open up more types of welding opportunities. It seems like the dream welding job for most people is pipe welding, usually underwater.
That's what you'd go to school for. You can absolutely learn standard welding via the internet and shit but it won't just come to you. You have to be able to tell the difference between a good weld and just a good-looking weld. You can lay down a perfect bead but if it isn't strong then it's worthless.
Then there's shit you would learn in school, like which type of welder you want to use (oxy-acetylene, mig, tig, etc.) and the type of rod when applicable. You also need to be able to identify your metals, if you were working with aluminium specifically and you didn't realize it then you would be in trouble
If you want to weld professionally it would be hard if not impossible for you to beat out a schooled welder but you could do some personal welding here and there.
>>
Welding IS hard.

You need to fine control of the rod or it will fail. Some reasons are too slow or too fast, wrong angle, wrong direction, wrong rod, wrong amp/voltage on welder, arc length too high or can be too short.

See how much things you have to keep consistent through out the entire weld?

I am not a pro welder but i have done welding at home.

Thanks! Been looking into it. Saw another suggestion for creating a frame or at least some wood strips to mount it on. Was thinking that might be nice if I want some sort of backlighting albeit I'm not sure it would shine through the mat.

Check Amazon for X-Fasten double sided carpet tape. Thin foam tape, removable, little to no residue and holds like a hot damn.

Clean wall, apply tape, apply mat, then use small rollers to apply pressure to taped spots. Ensure to get near the edges as well as some parallels in the middle.

Cheap hobby CNC routers tend to be awful for working with aluminium.
They can cut it, for sure, but very slowly and leaving lots of chatter marks due to poor machine rigidity.

I want to make a beast of a 2x72 belt grinder. I have a 4hp 36v DC EZ Go golf cart motor. I want to be able to power it from a 120v wall outlet and control the speed of it, but I want to do it cheap. Less than $60 if possible. I don't know how to do it expensively let alone how to do it on the cheap. Any advice? Anyone done similar?
13 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
I haven't done it, but it doesn't seem too hard. You'll need a 36v DC power supply. You can get switching power supplies like that for pretty cheap at just about any online retailer. You'll need to make sure it can supply enough current for the motor. Since you don't seem to know much about it, I'd probably stick to Amazon since you won't be able to spot crappy supplies that'll burn your shop down.

Speed control is the harder part. I can't recall seeing a single belt sander with speed control, but I guess it would be cool. Before giving any real advice, we'd need to know more about the motor. Most big DC motors like that are brushed, but we would need to know its current draw. The most basic control is just altering the voltage supply to the motor, but this gets to be a pain in the ass real quick. You might be able to find a variable DC power supply that can handle the current needed, which would solve both problems at once.

As for the rest of the machine, I think our boy Mattias Wendel has done something like this. That should give you ideas for rollers and the deck and whatnot, but he probably used an AC motor.

Good luck

For the life of me cannot remember or find the name of what is essentially fire truck water spraying turrets.

They are like $5000 and i assume because of the high pressure and quality castings needed.

A buddy working on a volenteer rig refuses to let the idea of building one go. So i descided to help.

Now, i know how much pressure these guys use and i know this is dangerous if something happens. I have explained to him that we both know this. And i will be knowhere near that fucker when its on.

Im hoping he will settle for some hydralic cylinders or actuators. But he has some old wheelchair motors that are low geared and very rugged.

I have used the sabertooth dual chanel 60 amp in other projects. If my math is correct he could underpower up to 6 motors and not have heating issues.

I had good luck with a battlebot of sorts until it just died without warning.

Any ideas or advice? Hopefully he means to operate this from inside the cab and doesnt take a firehose to the face. I fear there is no talking him out of this and there isnt much money for safety. But we know quality welders and could possibly build break aways and chain it down. Honestly not even sure where to start.

Its likey helding to a nosel is bad but we may have some old ones we can fasten or bolt cages around to keeo them from coming loose. A hose would suck but i imagine it would have less pressure and do less damage than a 20 pound brass nosel.

NB4 all the leaks. Yeah i know. Ive considered peicing one together but used ones are heavy and rare.

Pic related.

A monitor?
>>
>>1155987
After re reading your post I know you're talking about a monitor. Aka deluge or deck gun.

There's nothing terribly complicated about them and they don't use very high PSI, normally in the 100-150 range, rather they are used to move lots of water through GPM.

The general rule is that lower psi will move more GPMs and GPMs is what you want to fight a fire.

http://www.firefightermath.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=31&Itemid=45

This should help you figure it.

I believe all joints for fire hose are tested to only 500 PSI.
>>
>>1155987
Maybe. I will likely mount it on the front with a splitter. That way if my cobled together fucking bootleg sprayer comes apart they can kick the oto off and grab a hose. This will likely go on a backuo grass rig or 2 assuming i dont get anyone killed. We just fought record fires for a few weeks. The guys were tired but they seemed to have plenty of equipment. Im sure i will run a pressure guage to the cab.

>>

Not to be rude, but if I'm looking for safety regulations then obviously I want to use it on public roads. It's a van so it would hardly be used for racing.
Back story is I'm interested in getting a utility van, but it only has two seats, and I would like it to have four.

Just go to a scrapyard and find some seats, preferably from the same model to make sure they fit.
