I got this 24cc 2 stroke gas trimmer. it is a bitch to get started. once it is running, giving it throttle causes it to stall. you have to feather the throttle in part way to get the revs up. to get it to run as it should. I have to put it on half choke instead of run. even then it still might stall if I don't throttle it just so.

Simple question.

looking for the simplest [but effective] way to take a pretty small [9HP] engine, and hook it to a pretty small [34lbs] boat so I can do some solo fishing, up a creek not to far from my house.

the problem is the motor has no clutch, and I don't feel like buying a Centrifugal Clutch, for a few reasons, one being because its a boat, I don't think it will spin fast enough and basically burn itself out.

so will this work, Black pulleys [top one idler] red belt, I just need to pull a lever to engage the idler and put tension, causing the other pulley [prop shaft] to start spinning with the motor.

second problem I have with a centrifugal clutch is my output shaft is 7/8" not the standard 3/4"

the motor is technically going to be "inboard" because I have no bottom half of an outboard motor to salvage an the local craigslist sucks, people want blown marine motors for like 200 dollars an its CRAZY.

So /diy/ help me figure this out.. I'm going for the cheapest solution that just gets me out on the water with no fuss.

Thats how a mower deck works.
The drive belt (at least on mine) is similar but with 2 pullies that pivot together on an assembly to tighten the belt. A spring puts the tension on the belt and the clutch disengages (streches) the spring to remove the tension

Hello!
I need to strip my deck and stain it. It currently has a paint stain I need to remove. Looking for a powerful enough pressure washer to do the job.. is 3100 psi enough? Would a 2100 psi (much cheaper) still powerful enough to strip paint?

>>
>>1159384
The power comes from the jet tip. Either one of those machines would work if you had the right tip. Wherever you are shopping pressure washers should have explained this.
>>
>>1159384
both will work for wood you'll want lower pressure then work up, use the throttle for that yellow tip is best

Yesterday the power kept going out, and it somehow turned my water heater into an expensive cold water tank.

The power from the load control switch is correct and stable, runs through the thermostats normally, all connections in the access panels are fine, and the thing hasn't had any issues since I bought the place nearly a year ago.

Can the power going out actually damage a water heater? It's a Marathon mr50230.

>kept going out
something is short or drawing huge power

>cold water tank
maybe it is the cause

It was a full outage for the area, so unless my water heater supplies power to my area, that isn't it.

how do I make a short sword? strong enough for hiking purposes

>strong enough for hiking purposes
Good hiking swords aren't made, they are aquired. Walk into your nearest oak/ birch forrest and forrage around on the ground. What your looking for is a piece of timber that is not only long and narrow, but also strong enough to take a blow and support your weight. What you need to do is sharpen it. A spearpoint works but I like making a barbed spear so I can use it for fishing. Now that you are in the woods with your sharpened tool, ponder a moment. Maybe you'll realize how fucking pointless a sword will be in the woods, purhaps not. If so, keep your walking stick, it should protect you well. If not, fall on your spear and die

What's the best way to learn about tooling & get more knowledge/familiarity with mechanical tools?

I'm a mechanical engineering student but I haven't the time to actually do real world mechanical engineering stuff.

Take some classes at the local community/technical college. University engineering programs teach jack shit about practical machinist skills, just a whole lot of paper theory and problem solving.
>>
>>1159093
i picked up a lot of tooling knowledge just watching random youtube vids and paying attention to what gets used when and why

nothing beats experience tho. see if you can pick up an internship or part time job at a machine shop nearby. i learned more last summer working in a house shop with a crotchety greybeard teaching me his wisdom than all 4 years of mech eng classes combined. also looks fuckin sweet on that resume

How do I change the power drill to a small drill bit? All the larger sizes have the same hexagon shaped connector, but the ends of the smaller sizes are all different sizes of circles instead. Googling this has given me a lot of words I do not understand. What do I do? I need the smallest size bit but it won't fit. Pic related, it's everything available to me.

Acid as herbicide? Has anyone tried this?
I have around 20L of what i think is some sort of muriatic acid (has been used to remove rust from large steel coils), the can says Ferhibit H60.
I have a lot of plants around my house that needs to die, and stay dead. The commercial stuff kills the plant, but after a while it turns back in to soil and grows better than ever. I'm hoping the acid will make everything stay dead for years.

so knipex rates some of their cutters for "soft" wires only, due to their grind on the blades. but what exactly counts as "soft" wires? also some of their cutters arent rated for stranded conductors either.... what gives?

i install speaker systems and mostly cut CAT5e/6a, coax and speaker wire up to 12AWG

i bought the knipex 76 22 125, but now im starting to think i got the wrong tool

suggestions and alternatives are welcome. i ideally want the tool to have a opening spring and be high leverage

edit: i mostly cut CAT5e/6a, coax, 14/4, 16/4 and zip ties
>>
>>1158555
I believe "soft" would be something like copper wires like you say you are cutting while "hard" would be something like small steel cables ie. rebar tie or bailing wire.
>>
>>1158555
very hard wires like piano wire, rebar or chain would bend a knife-edge, so the hard wire cutter has a dull edge that works by squashing a thin point into the wire and forcing the sides of the dent apart until the wire snaps under the strain. this doesn't work well with soft wires because they smoosh flat without accumulating strain.

fat stranded soft wire needs a shear scissor because it's too thick and squashy for the jaws of the diagonal cutter; it deforms and pops out when you try to cut and you have to chew through it in small nips which is shitty.

stranded hard wire needs a high leverage shear scissor because the hard wire cutter's jaws won't close tightly enough to pinch off individual strands, so it gnaws on the bundle uselessly.
