Hello /diy/, long time trade here, I want to open a material supplier, how do? I can probably open a stucco supplier without much hassle but I have no idea about how easy would it be to enter the market. I also had in mind a bolt/screws supplier where I would also produce my own, with a CNC machine as well as custom bits.
Is my dreams feasible, anybody here have experience?
Canuck anon btw

>I also had in mind a bolt/screws supplier where I would also produce my own, with a CNC machine as well as custom bits.
pro tip: screws and bolts sell at cost. all the profits from screws and bolts comes from the scrap you recycle when machining.

This has to be the most retarded thing I have ever read. Congratulations.
Hey /diy/, I've seen tons of various arguments and statements of whether liquid cooling is more efficient and better than just basic air cooling. It's hard to get a straight answer with so much false information and varying opinions (people calling it a meme).
If someone could give a straight answer or argument over this, not only would it help me, but several IRL autist friends with computer building and decisions.
Liquid is definitely not as efficient, because you need to pump the liquid around and there is an extra medium to get the heat out of the system but it might be more effective because you can keep pumping cold water onto the heat source. Whereas air cooling the heat source has to be able to withstand the temps until the heat has a chance to transfer to the cold air.
If your radiator is too small or something it will be substantially worse than correct sized air cooling and you might not notice because you are unfamiliar with the system
>>1159045
Depends on the application. Liquid cooling is useful for where you need to keep a system sealed of potential contaminants (dirt, dust, bugs, etc) but it's also vulnerable to absolutely destroying the machine if it's damaged significantly. It's also more complicated and requires more power to run pumps. But heat transfer can be optimized well beyond what air can deliver.
Air cooling is effective due to simplicity. Basic radiators and/or fans are cheap and less likely to have a catastrophic failure from damage, making repairs easy. But they can be significantly more heavy and require more frequent cleaning and maintenance, plus filters for keeping out particles. They also work better in moving devices due to airflow from speed. There are diminishing returns as the cooled temps become higher and higher though, as you need more and more conductive material and faster airflow to move the heat (and have it not melt on you).
>>1159045
Liquid cooling is better at cooling than air. But it's not recommended for most people unless they do massive overclocking, which most people don't do. It's like saying you need jet fuel to gas up your Toyota Camry because it's the best.
Another downside to liquid cooling is it's complicated with more points for failure unless you keep up on maintenance. That's just a lot of extra work and worry for no real benefit.
Hey /DIY/
Looking to buy a house we currently have been renting.
I'm okay with owning and looking after a house we've rented for the last few years since most things have been okay. We love the location, neighborhood has nice people, and would be desirable to rent in the future.
A few things concern me and thus are why we are having an inspector coming Tuesday to look at the house.
The house is on silts/cinder blocks. Also, the house is uneven in some areas because of this.
Also, some warping around the house and furnishings have cracked in half because of the house settling? It was built in the 50s. Looking around the outside there are some visible cracks but again not much to go off of.
Current owner has a sump pump to deal with water in the crawl space under the house.
Figured it was a good time to buy on a decently priced house for the area. Providing the inspection and apprasial go well,
Congratulations on soon becoming a home owner. Did you have a specific question in there or just want to start a home ownership thread?
>>1158988
Both.
Would warping of the house be a something huge to worry about prior to buying/inspection?
>>1158991
All structures (cept maybe those built on bedrock) settle. Depending on the severity you can let it go, jack up the affected parts of the house and shim them level, or go ham and pour new footings for the foundation. My guess you're in the first category and with a bottle jack and afternoon could be into the second one pretty easily. The inspector will tell you for sure.
How is the eco system for the Asus tinker board?
With arduino boards you can get adapters making it more suitable for permanent installation.
using an arduino i got for christmas, i have created a devious device. a device most foul. this device, which is fucked up as hell, reads in bio signals from my body and in fact detects when my heart stops. apon activation of this signal of my death, my signature on all the forums i have used during my time alive (gamefaqs, luelinks, sa boards) will be changed to ascii art and a message of rest in peace and honorto give my fellow gamers and online friends peace of mind. the bullies and whores on social media sites (facebook, twitter, instagram) many of whom i know in real life will not be so lucky. and they willbe treated, too, a barrage of personalized take downs and burns along the likes of comedy geniuses such as luis ck goerge carlin and bill hicks. it will also spam words of intolerable cruelty, such as nigger and faggot

If trying for pasta, it got taken off the stove too early...
Friend gave me this huge ass mace, i'd like to make some kind of display box for it or something but i think the high polish finish makes it look really cheap so i want to paint it and give it a real leather grip.
Does anyone know if these chinese made weapons have any kind of plating that makes it so shiny?
And if they do, is there anything i need to worry about when sanding and painting?
>>1158600
It looks kinky, unless you own a porno cinema or swingers club throw that shit at a nigger.
>>1158600
The entire design looks totally fucked. I'd sandblast it just to see what happens, or you could sell it for a carton of cigarettes. I'm sure that's the standard method of compensation for a weapon like this.
>>1158600
>remove grip
>wait for lighting storm
>stand on house roof holding thors but plug aloft
>learn what an earthing rod has to live with
Hey DIY Fans,
I made a DIY Camera Slider, that includes a mechanism to drive it by a simple cordless screwdriver. Let me know, what you think about it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu0k2UuAs4g
>>1157977
you put so much effort into making it pretty
and then you are driving it by a handheld drill
might wanna get some inspiration for a proper drive train/controller here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pbm960k1wW4
>>1157977
I get that you're making stuff but you've made 2 threads in the past 15 minutes. cool it.
Your stuff is fine but the editing is a bit overdone. It's a camera slider and custom earbuds, not the next ak-47 or a clockwork drone.
>>1157977
I don't think those washers will last long attached only with superglue to the bearings, there are already pulleys with bearings attached.
Also you're missing the electronic part, a small servo and an arduino could make it programmable, following speed curves and things like that.
I am planning to buy some sort of magnifying glass for working with electronic boards and smaller stuff, things which sometimes require accuracy and precision.
My idea was to look for something comfortable, hands free and do not strain my eyesight too much.
Would the binocular glasses usually worn by medics/odontologists/etc. accomplish my goal?
Or should i look for something like a magnifying glass stand?
So what's your opinion /diy/?
>>1157019
if you have them sure
there cheaper ones for precize work even ones with light
i wodl get even a stand with magnifying glass or a lamp with magnifying
>>1157030
Magnifying glass stand.
Like the other anons said it's the best option.
And if you're going to be soldering don't forget to get some adjustable bendy arm clamps
Post your projects below!
Bout to get started on this. Already built the trailer, next gonna repaint the boat

Op posts slick af z28. First comment is this. Not only that but op requested to see the autsistic works we coble together.
Never change diy. Never change.
Wormbro checking in. Finally getting beatles. They dont seen very happy tho. Maybe too chilly in here...

Thank God it's a carrot.
How many people actually come here? Have I been talking to the same 5 anons all this time?

number two here again, just bumping for you
>>1152313
who's number one??
Got this a year or two ago off the internet. A couple high school students at a technology center made it out of an old lawn mower. Problem is, it only has 2 forward gears, and reverse. Both of the forward gears are slow as hell. How might I go about making it go faster? I've heard some things about putting bigger gears on it, but I'd like the input of /diy/.

I want to give my ship black sails, but I also want them to be able to generate solar power.
However, it's a huge ship, so it'd cost an absolute fortune (tens of thousands) to use flexible solar panels, which would not look like black sails.
Is there any way to buy or make solar paint?
>>1159484
just make one from a lot of small panels
Just buy flexible solar panels and paint them black
>>1159484
Build them from shipping containers, I heard that works
Hey /diy/,
Just moved into an apartment that has everything included, which means I have all the free power I could ever need! Trying not to use TOO much, so as to not arouse suspicion, but want to start doing something immediately. Any bright ideas? Mining coins or something?
Got about $300USD I can throw at it right this second, maybe more soon, depending on how much this could make me...
- grow weed
- grow exotic rare plants or fruits (to sell of course)
- a sweatshop and hire illegal aliens
- a solar studio
- a launderette
- a battery charge shop
- a phone charge house
- an arcade
- a massage chair salon
- an underground club
- a bakery (electric ovens)
- an underground karaoke club

Go with this one and post results

Is this a meme now? Or do you children not realize the landlord ends up paying for the resources you use? Nothing is free, especially not electricity.

Had a problem with carpenter bees and red wasps, so I created this bug zapper.
In brief:
* Energy storage cap 1.5µF - charged to 4000V (12J)
* Custom wound center tapped transformer 1500V output.
* Custom driver board / controller.
* Charges fully in about two seconds.
* It has defeated all insect challengers.
* 1000x more powerful than an off-the-shelf zapper

This is like something Tim would do in home improvement.
And you'd just be waiting for him to get all zapped somehow and then Wilson to turn it into a metaphor for masculinity in the post war era.
Creating a device of destruction instead of mating with your enemies and eventually, after several generations, producing everlasting peace?
Pleb
>>1159193
that's pretty insane but wont you end up killing all of the beneficial insects in the area? How do you plan on attracting wasps?

the first post, is in fact, the best post

This
I have a really basic circuit with 3 pushbuttons and two lights. Is there a way to have the following:
(1) Pushing button 1 turns first lamp on
(2) Pushing buttons 2 & 3 simultaneously turns second lamp on
(3) Pushing buttons 1 & 2 simultaneously turns second lamp on
Impossible
Possible, if button 1 and 2 are SPDT buttons.
>>1158858
Ahem, I meant DPST.
