This transformer is glued upside down to an outlet in my garage near my water heater. it reads "class 2 not wet" "class 3 wet" I have no idea why it is here as I don't know those wires go but would like to without cutting open my wall. also don't understand the dual wet not wet thing. Please advise?

Given that its fed via a cat5e network cable, I would guess its something to do with telecom's, that or some lame attempt at poe. You gotta chase that cable bro
>>1162088
just painted the other side of that wall and god knows how far i would have to chase it... well fuck thanks for giving it a look though.
It's a 12 or 24 volt transformer that should be screwed on from the inside of that junction box. Typically one like that in your house powers your door bell.
>Need to replace just 2 windows on a 20 year old house
>"Durrrr we don't have this window size anymore"
>Costs almost the same as replacing all of the windows in a house
Can someone please explain to me this scam? I see brand new houses with almost the exact same windows being used. I'm seriously just going to fuck all and do this shit myself, I refuse to pay some fat fuck contractor $10k just because 2 out of 30 windows went to shit.
>>1162068
This is why you shop around.
Or it could be that the type of window that you are trying to buy is expensive to have made in a custom size. Most window installers don't make their own windows anymore. They buy them premade from a factory that is highly automated. Custom sizes mean a lot of human work and a higher price.
>>1162073
Trust me, it's standard and not some weird triangle shaped bullshit.
How many variations can you make of a simple fucking rectangle? You're right though eventually I'll get a good quote.
Size down to the nearest standard size window and trim it in. Most municipalities will let you do this because of how expensive the extra inch between standard size windows costs.
Must have tools general?
I need to get tools and I have been looking at buying one of these mechanic tool sets from Sears.
I noticed a lot of them are very similar with different varieties of tool combinations
The 311pc set has over 200 sockets and that seems like over kill for me.
Which set would be the best price to usefulness of the tools in the collection?

>actually buying chinese craftsman
Expensive, poor quality, who knows whats gonna happen to their warranty now that they are Stanley tools.
But hey, theyll be sold at Walmart before you know it so thats gonna be a good thing.
I would buy a Kobalt mechanics tool kit before any Craftsman one
Also realize that you can never have too many sockets, its never overkill.

>I would buy a Kobalt mechanics tool kit before any Craftsman one
Thanks for this info. I didn't know craftsman was Chinese nor did I know it was sold off. I always year people talk about craftsman being good and having the lifetime warranty.
I see Lowe's has a sale on the 300 piece set for 149.25.
>>1161826
Craftsman is Sears tool brand, just like Kobalt is Lowes tool brand. The thing is, Sears is looking more and more like it is going to go out of business soon. Lowes is doing okay and will be around for a while yet.
While Craftsman will continue on, it is because Stanley Black & Decker bought it out from under Sears. They say they are building a new factory in the USA to make tools but there is no telling when those tools will be hitting the street. Probably years from now.
I propose a new board called /difm/ "Do it for me" since most posts here are of that type.

Jesus people, pretend your on a desert island strew with the wreckage of your jumbo jet and you need to build something to get off the island or be rescued. Figure it out.
Im getting this from china next week from a very good website called BANGGOOD.com (xD) Does anyone have a clone of the original and what problems did you face?

>>1161284
I bought a nano copy for about 3$, it works great, no problems whatsoever.
>>1161284
I'd recommend the micro if your project works with it, it can work as an USB HID as well.
No problems with nano or micro clones.
I've got a corner desk that's pretty nice, it's even got a little shelf on it for me to use as a footrest. The only problem is, that when I move around on it or shake my leg a bit, it shakes the rest of my desk, which rattles against the wall and jostles my monitor around.
What's the easiest, cheapest way to dampen this area? Right now, I'm thinking that I build a new shelf, a centimetre or so higher and with a bit of space around, and then I can just wobble that instead. Is there an easier solution I'm overlooking? I feel like even if I brace the shelf a bunch, it's still going to move a little, so it seems more sensible to just move the vibrations somewhere harmless.
bolt it to the wall or shake your leg against a few car washing sponges
>>1161252
You're not trying to dampen vibration, you're trying to increase the rigidity of your desk. Which depends on how it's assembled, held together and what material it's made of. Is the image you posted the exact desk? Draw us an image or take a photo.
Does it use screws? Tenons?
Ideally you would add some sort of cross brace.
>>1161256
It's basically that desk, except it doesn't have the little set of shelves or chest of drawers.
Even if it was more rigid, I think it wouldn't really help the problem. Bolting it to the wall might work, but there's skirting boards in the way and it's a massive hassle to get behind it. The shelf is clearly bearing the load so the desk doesn't do the splits, otherwise I'd just cut it out and turn it into a free-standing shelf. It's secured by screws that go through the sides.

so i want to hook some LED strips to my subwoofer in my car so they blink with the bass.
>inb4 fucking ricer fuck gtfo
I've got one 500w amp and one 500w rms subwoofer with dual voice coils at 2ohms each.
how would i go about to safely wire the LED strips to my subwoofer without anything blowing or using any microphones?
i've read about adding transistors or a voltage regulator, but didnt quite understand what to do.
Any help?
>>1157032
each time your sub goes off it's because electricity is fed to the speakers
split that electricity to the LEDs and power them that way, if the power coming out is more than 14 volts you will want a DC to DC step down to 10 is even ok, since the step down from 14 to 12 is probably too close to each other

Are European houses built in the 70s still worth something, or should they all be demolished?
>>1152026
>European
is a big place, you need to be specific
>70s
50 years is when buildings start to get demolished so maybe
>>1152026
As in they're somehow worse than both houses built before and after them, or that they're the next on the list to be demolished after the ones built before them?
Just stopped fermentation on a batch of grape juice + apple/raspberry. I hoped they didn't go too long, I wanted them to end up a bit sweeter. Will see if it needs anything added.
It tasted pretty decent when I checked on it a few days ago.

also, completely random: what does dandelion wine taste like? weeds? grass?
>>1151847
>what does dandelion wine taste like?
It only uses the flower petals so it won't taste like grass or weeds. If you have too much green parts in it the flavor will become bitter. It is a very delicate floral flavor and easily overpowered by all the other ingredients. A dandelion mead is almost all honey flavor. A dandelion wine made using tea for tannins will be almost all tea flavored. Raisins for tannin = raisin flavor. Banana for nutrients and it doesn't overshadow the floral with fruity all that much if you use 1 banana for 5-6gal. If you use brown sugar or spices, it will taste more like that and so on. If you cook the petals instead of steep them you really bork the flavor.
Thus, a bit of tannin powder, white sugar only, a bit of yeast nutrient, a bit of acid powder, Vintner's Harvest "CY17 Saccharomyces Cerevisiae" yeast (for best floral results), spring water, and a ton of dandelion petals.
