/diy/, am I being retarded?
I'm in the middle of fixing the blade assembly and I can't seem to get the bearings off this thing no matter what I try. Prying/chiselling has literally no effect. Am I doing it wrong? Is there something I should be doing?
Don't care all that much about the old bearings much, so any rough solution might work as long as it doesn't damage anything else.
They're part of the plastic? Not a press fit but part of the mold.
>>1163302
So how'd this guy do it?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5sdbilM2RY
looks like a bushing is moulded onto the plastic, but the bearing a separate part.
I'd suggest hydraulic but the plastic will probably break before the bearing comes loose.
Is there literally anything more frustrating in all the /diy/ arts than pic related?
No. Especially when you're a machinist and your hours into the part and that happens
>>1163145
Just get an easy out from Harbor Feight and get that sucker out. Easy-peasy
>>1163148
I have a set of speedouts but you'd have to drill down the middle of the tap for it to work and good luck with that.
>got bike mirror
>attach to handlebar
>keep tightening but it doesn't seem to hold well enough
>whatever garbage metal the clamp is made of is too soft
>mirror moves around anytime the bike does
so....ideas for how to attach the mirror post to the handlebar?
apart from duct tape, and I don't love the thought of drilling through it
(I didn't measure it but it is not much more than an inch or so in diameter)
is there some kind of stock part at a hardware store that would be similar to the clamp thingy, but stronger?
Wrap a strip of innertube around the handlebar and clamp to that.
I'd be perfectly fine to leave it like that for my own use but as you're not me i'd recommend you replace it with a good clamp whenever you can.
>>1163140
the problem is mainly that the shaft is not tight enough to stop it from turning, not that it is moving up or down on the handlebar
if you have a suggestion for a "good clamp", that would be helpful
I thought about something like a scope mount, but not sure how to attach a post to that
>>1163169
Thread third jam nut between halves of clamp, and tighten shaft to top of clamp. Use bottom nut to set clamp tension.

So, my ex's kids somehow got to my hard drive out of my laptop and fucked up those brass pins.. a couple snapped off, and I am very pissed because my whole life was on that thing. Took it to a repair shop and the clueless old lady told me there's nothing that can be done to fix it... is this true? Please tell me there's something I can do. Thank you.
Can you solder? Have some jumper wires?
>>1161005
get something like this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/272249922775?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true
manually connect each jumper cable to the adapter.
problem solved
>>1161004
It's usually possible to find the exact same make/model of the drive used, and swap out the circuit boards. That's typically the easiest course.
posted on /g/ was told to go here
im stripping a dc power cable to a laptop and all i can find is the protective wires and just one set of wires in the middle??? where the fuck is the positive and ground?
(btw i didn't do the shit solder job)
The outer one is most likely the ground. Plug it in and hook it up to a multimeter to confirm.
>>1160019
>protective wires
>wires in the middle
One is positive and the other is negative. The shielding is typically ground, but DC circuits can be either positive or negative ground.
>>1160019
>found two wires
>where the fuck is the positive and ground?

>I'm new to electronics, where do I get started?
There are several good books and YouTube channels that are commonly recommended for beginners and those wanting to learn more, many with advanced techniques. The best way to get involved in electronics is just to make stuff. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.

This mostly comes down to personal preference. These are the most common ones though:

I decided to forge my own ring instead of purchasing one.
I carved out a wax ring, casted it in plaster of paris to form a mold, and then poured some molten misc. jewelry into the form.
After quite some time I think it cleaned up nicely.

i know this is a long shot, but does anyone have plans for the Bevin skiff. i cant find any detailed plans.
pic related is all i could find.
I don't, but have a bump from a fellow boat fag.
Cute little boatymcboatface
>>1164876
That looks fairly simple, I would think it's possible to get what you need from there.
Just print it out and use a ruler to scale it up (1/4" = 1') or whatever size you want.
>>1164876
that IS the detailed plan.
what the heck else do you need?
Buying a soldering gun to diy analog synths. I'll probably be working with tiny wires and circuit boards. Though, I'm a complete beginner. Are these cheapo #1 solders on Amazon good enough to start me off?
>>1164564
yes the adjustable one is more than enough for hobbyists
also get some leaded solders, and throw away the ones that comes with the kit it is garbage tier
also the solder pump is rather useless, also throw it away
actually, don't get a "kit", just get the soldering iron and get other stuff you need separately, the "kit" is just a jewish trick
>>1164569
Aight cool, appreciate it
>>1164572
don't buy the stupid weller. its a cheap iron with a light dimmer as the temperature 'control'
get a '936' soldering station , Aoyue or equivalent knockoff a Hakko
Should OP buy this Stanley FatMax Bit Adaptor for $15? I plan on using it for /diy/ /hobby stuf, nothing professional or hardcore.

Give me one good reason why that is any better than what OP or first poster showed.
An old friend came into town 2 days ago and we got drunk at my apartment. I dont smoke cigarettes and never had let anyone smoke in here. I guess I was drunk and told him he could smoke because at the time I was drunk and didnt care. Well i got home from work today and it smells like a fucking ashtray, every damn room. Anyone have any ideas how to remove this smell? Im gonna do the normal wipe down and mop. Might spray some kind of odor neutralizer into the hvac system while its running to get it into the vents.
Febreze and ozium everywhere, like a lot. Used these in a used smokers car I bought and within 2 weeks of soaking everything every day the smell was completely gone, even my wife who hated being in the car from the smoke now loves it and said she couldn't smell it at all anymore.
>>1164519
Thanks, i forgot about ozium...i bet thats gonna work.
There's no perfect solution, anything you do will just be damage control, cigarette smoke is fucking disgusting. I'm a smoker but am fanatical about keeping smoke out of my house and truck.
I'm moving into a new apartment and as a standard internet addict, I will spend 95% of my life in the glow of monitors cursing the sun and birds out side my windows.
Standard carpet protectors are too small, so what I can I diy to protect the carpet against my slovenly lifestyle?
I was thinking getting like a box of wood flooring and gluing it to a tough rug. Not sure it would hold up to my fat ass rolling a chair across it. Maybe some rivets?
>>1164244
Not DIY but I bought one of these a few years back and it's held up far better than any of the plastic ones I ever had. Plastic would hold up for less than a year before it got divots, maybe a few more months before it started cracking to pieces entirely. This thing has held up and I'd def buy again
>>1164244
Masonite maybe? Comes in 4x8 sheets. You could use a bare piece if that's big enough, or glue flooring to a couple sheets laid together
>>1164244
If you want something cheap and almost completely indestructible, try cement board.
Personally, I screwed a piece of cheap 3/8" plywood to the floor and covered it with a rubber mat.
I have a Craftsman radial arm saw that I want to donate. I checked with Habitat for Humanity. They don't want radial arm saws. What do you suggest?
Donate it to me ill take it

See if its on the recall list

If it is, recall it and make some money
Otherwise throw it away. You dont want anyone actually using that piece of garbage
