I hope to be on the right board...
I recently rebuilt my backyard street and there is an old concrete wall that's not worthy cover in fancy shit but it's still ugly to look at.
I thought about using a climbing plant to make it look better.
I would like such plant to give me fruits and I was wondering if any of you can help me find a few options and maybe share experiences.
I live in northern Italy (Trentino, 600m on sea level) so the climate can be quite hard during winters. I already have grapes and kiwifruits so I would like something different.
Any suggestion?
...thanks in advance.

I recall reading here and there that you can put moss into a blender with enough water to turn the moss into a puree that you can then paint on concrete surfaces. It doesn't kill the moss and it will grow onto the wall.
If you don't mind the look of moss over a concrete wall you may be happy with that simple solution.
Trentino is a beautiful city.
I found this article that you may use at your discretion.

If its a concrete wall then install some wire mesh on the wall hanging off about 3 or 4 inches. Cheapest option around here is called "cattle fencing". Comes in a roll, has about 4-6" spacing between the wires.
With this you can turn any ground covering plant into a vertical one.
I grow cantaloupe, these miniature watermelons, cucumbers, and runner beans on the cattle panels all over the property here.
The true ground plants like cantaloupe and watermelon youll have to train every 2-4 days during the growing season. I have noticed a significant incidence rate of powdery mildew since growing them vertically
I have never used a network switch before.
Picture is my plan. I have two questions:
1) Ignore the purple wire coming from the router for now. Is this the correct way to use a switch (see red and green wires).
2) What is the consensus on bypassing the switch for some network devices (see purple wire)? My switch will have plenty of ports, I am just wondering if I gain (or lose) anything by connecting anything with the purple wire.
3) If #2 is good networking practice, then what type of devices should be connected to the purple wire instead of through the switch?
Follow up question:
If I wanted to connect a second switch, should it connect directly to the router (purple wire) or should it connect to one of the green wires?
Both are fine, just make sure that you always pass everything though a modem first.
1)yes
2)I dont think there's any disadvantage if your router ports are providing more bandwith than you need across all devices.
I want to cut holes (and possibly other shapes) in a plastic box like picrelated. I tried using a soldering iron but it was too messy and warped the plastic.
What other tools are there that I can use?
drill
saw
knife
>>1169944
What kinds? I need more specific info, like what would I buy if I went to home depot or a hardware store>
>>1169951
It's not like there's a recipe or anything. Just look at what you want to do, and get the tools that fit the job. Small hole = small drill bit, etc. Figure it out.
i wan to make something similar to pic related. i was just wondering if anyone knows where to source lamented steel plates used to wind a coil fro a rotor, or where i might sauce something to do the job .
>>1169788
why not put the magnets on the rotor and put the coil as the stator?
>>1169792
more complex coil windings, i need something i can wind by hand. i don't have a coil winder.
If you're not overly concerned about efficiency/output power/speed i don't think you need to bother with laminated steel.
Hey guys, does anyone of you own a Felder KF700?
I am having issues installing the protective hood for the sawblade, because they didn't send me any documentation on how to install that thing.
Do you guys have any info/knowledge on that stuff?
Pic related.
>>1169761
is that thing like $10k? no docs wtf?
>>1169761
Why don't you contact them?
>>1169858
Because there are holidays tomorrow and the day after.
The earliest i can contact them is on Wednesday.
Anyone knows how to retrieve a lot of information about the body in a computer about what's going on in the body ex. ECG EEG EMG etc...
That's for an art project
>>1169688
>That's for an art project
It's easier to fake those signals than get a clean one.
You'd be working with microvolt to millivolt levels along with s shitton of noise. 99% of the work will be filtering.
Of the ones you listed, a basic 2 electrode ECG is fairly straightforward and will give good results.
EMGs require relatively expensive sensors and aren't terribly informative in terms of what's going on. Also lots and lots of noise.
Don't even bother with EEG.
>>1169691
I need a way to get real signals, do you have an idea about what other information I can gather ?
>>1169693
Light based pulse & oximetry information is very simple.
There isn't much you can do on an art project budget while being non-invasive.
How difficult would it be to make this kind of rubber coated foam sparring protection?
Id like to make custom padding but i dont know were to begin.
You're going to need to learn to make the shapes you need, make molds, and pour some self skinning foam

Headgear doesn't protect your brain at all, and it blocks your peripheral vision so you end up getting hit more often. Useless at best, snake oil at worst. Just keep your hands up.

That did not answer the question.
Does anyone nows how to build a homemade film camera? like a cinematograph or something like that.
I´m thinking about start in filming as a hobby and i want it to be as cheap as possible.
>>1169542
>cheap as possible
>diy photography
Sure thing.
I made a Daguerriatype camera for my highschool science project. Spent almost $400 doing it.

then don't start.
Trying to think of what I can use to make a hard shell to fit over my thumb(s) for use in greenhouse work. They get pretty sore after hours of using them to snap off tough stems.
I usually wear gloves, so I don't think it would need to be adhesive.
So far I've thought about plasti-dip, or some moldable plastic (though I'm not sure how thin that could get).
Bondo
>>1168968
You really need to use a tool for doing that. I've worked at massive greenhouses before. There wasn't a single job I did where I had to touch the plants directly to perform the task. I always used a tools of some kind. If I didn't I've had nothing but bloody and green hands. Even something as simple as a boxend wrench can be a live saver for thumbs.
What is the plant and what part of the stem are you snapping off?
As for your question, looking into vacuum forming plastic. A really small mold, a vacuum cleaner, and a heat gun are all you need to form plastic in the size you need. You can make your shell then line the inside with a thin layer of 100% silicone for gripping.
>>1168970
thanks, I probably wouldn't have thought of that
>>1168977
they're various flowers (many geraniums), a lot of the job is cleaning and getting them ready for shipping, ie. taking off whole flowers/buds
afaik, if you use a knife or scissors you would have to sterilize them after each plant to prevent possible contamination/spreading disease, which would be not practical
>vacuum forming
I'd really like to have a setup for that at some point
any speficic type of plastic? hdpe?
Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Towel rack mount

Is this only drywall or some kind of autoclaved aerated concrete?
Seems like just drywall.

Find a wall stud, relocate it there. Cover hold with picture of a dog... Why a dog? Because reasons!
Why half ass it when you can quarter ass it...
Have this issue every time it gets humid. when bedroom door is shut and window shut I have some sort of allergy problem. I feel pressure in my head and can't concentrate. when I leave bedroom I can immediately tell there's something wrong cause I start to feel normal again. I must be inhaling something in my bedroom I shouldn't be
I might actually paypal some money to someone that gives solution cause my quality of life is being seriously affected by this. I work online and can't put my pc anywhere else in the house. can't afford to move out etc.
it wasn't bad or noticeable in winter time but now that it's humid again it's becoming serious problem. I can feel whatever it is that was affecting me start to fade right when I leave bedroom. I have to be inhaling something through my nose that I'm not supposed to.
Sounds like it might be mold. I'm no expert though.
Sounds like mold. Mold can lead to serious health issues. Wear a mask when you go hunting for it.
What are good diy basketball hoops? Any particular materials to use for the rim, backboard, pole, and net?

Need some mechanical advice folks. I drive an 09 trailblazer and my battery was dead today. I'm not sure if it's the battery or the alternator. I bought it second hand a year ago, so I'm not sure how old the battery is. It took a lot of charging to get it to jump. After a half hour of letting it run, driving it 5 miles, then shutting it off, it won't turn over. Doesn't even make an attempt actually. The lights flickered and the radio crackled when traction control kicked on. It has been humming while accelerating, had it checked out, not tires or wheel bearings.Just had to replace the serpentine belt as well. My money is on the alternator but can anybody help me diagnose this? Will I have to replace the battery as well?
>>1167949
You can test the battery at all national auto parts, for FREE
Had the same issue with my Jeep, check your battery terminals. One of mine was bad and this was the source of the issue.
>>1167949
As someone who wasted the better part of a weekend assuring myself that no, the battery is only a year old, it can't be the battery.... it's probably the battery.
Test/replace the simplest, cheapest things first, even if you're SURE they are fine. Because you're not sure.
1. Clean terminals
2. Replace negative battery cable
3. Replace battery
4. Cry
5. Alternator
6. Sell car to a woman and hope she doesn't have a boyfriend that knows cars
Hey /diy, I don't normally post here or do more than look at the gore threads that are here on occasion but I have decided to take on a minor project and am looking for some direction.
I recently have gotten into collecting atari 2600 games and enjoy them greatly except for the old worn out joysticks that honestly probably weren't any better when they were manufactured.
I have looked around and found many third party ones for 30+ dollars but if I am going to spend that i figured I might as well use arcade components to build me a joystick or two that will cost around the same and offer superior performance. I am looking for ideas, mainly something cheap to use for a enclosure (cigar box maybe? where do i find those cheap??) and information if anyone has built something like this. sorry if this is too /r/
>>1167842
One of my arcade sticks I'm about to gut is in a wooden box. The sides are 45 degree miter cuts with wooden strips on the inside recessed to the depth of the bottom cover. The bottom cover screws into those strips. The top, which the buttons and stick are screwed into, has four small right angle metal brackets in the inside holding the top to the sides.
Something like this? Not sure if the top would be sturdy enough, but you could reinforce it fairly easily.

You can use a Sega master system or Genesis/mega drive controller in the meantime if you have one lying around.
Theoretically speaking, is it possible to live by only drinking water entirely recycled from your own grey/blackwater?
>>1167670
theoretically speaking, all water on earth is recycled
>>1167672
Yeah, but how to do it myself?
You could filter the shit out of it, of course. The energy costs would kill you.
