Has anyone made an outdoor alarm/non-lethal trap for theft prevention around their property? It's getting too windy again that my little bells keep ringing. I live in a ghetto and thieves tend to jump over my gate (I had 2 thieves this year already jumping over nothing stolen yet). The police barely do anything about it. I have an indoor alarm and my German Shepherd so I'm perfectly fine inside. I just need a alarm/trap system for theft prevention. If anyone has any plans of a outdoor alarm system and/or non-lethal trap please post!

If they can steal it, chain it down or lock it away.
I also like motion sensitive lights. Crooks hate light. That and cameras.

You could plant rose bushes along the fence.
Natural barbed wire.

Your alarm company could probably add a sensor to your gate for not much.

Traps are illegal, even non lethal ones because they can't differentiate. You could put up a high voltage fence to keep your dog in maybe, or some spikes to keep birds from sitting on top of your fence, or razor wire on top of your fence because it's obvious and usually acceptable, maybe not in a residential area, check local ordinances.

Hello /diy/nosaurs.

I have built this circuit. What I wanted was to make an impedance matching circuit, and I thought this could be a good way.

I am designing a guitar effects processor over a FPGA. The audio input i'm using is a line-in. The impedance of this connector is 600 Ohm, which is lower than my guitar impedance. So with this circuit I was planning to reduce the guitar impedance below 600 Ohms.

I have tested it in my guitar amplifier and it sounds like a charm. But when I use it on the FPGA it produces distortion. I have also disconnected the buffer to connect the guitar directly on the FPGA, and it sounds good (not distorted), but the sound hasn't got a bright sound.

What can I do?

Maybe you're exceeding the input voltage range of your ADC. Try adding a pot between the amplifier and your ADC.
>>
>>1170467
A 500k pot would be enough?

Also, could I put a pot right after the 9V power supply?

Is it true that you can get skin cancer from it? I'm not a pussy but I'd rather not get literal cancer if it can be avoided. My brother said that half the stuff you learn from the safety orientation won't be followed at some jobs and I just want to be safe.

He's right.
So much safety measures are downright ignored for the sake of productivity it's fucking ridiculous.

Hey guys. I'm looking to relieve as much urine scent as possible while im saving for carpet replacement. Long story short, dog would piss on the carpet, she was old and I work long hours. I had her trained for puppy pads while I was gone, but the results were ok.
I've had this dog for 13 years as my service dog, and she was called home the other day.
I'm trying to relieve some of this scent until replacement day comes.
Any body a carpet cleaner or experienced with this?

Friend of mine owns an antique store. She had a store of one time she got a carpet guy to evaluate an old, large rug. The first thing he did was get down on his knees and smell it. He claimed that piss smells are basically impossible to remove and that any carpet smelling of piss was valueless.

Good luck, OP.

Go to the pet store and get an urine enzyme formula like Nature's Miracle. It is your best bet. You can rent an extractor too if you want. This will help to.

I'm making some containers for radioactive experiments.
The one on the left is for uranium ore and experiments on caterpillars. The other for thorium nitrate and experiments with flies.

I need another for experiments with some plants... any ideas on the configuration? The radioactive material will be a mineral (torbernite).

Would it be possible to run a guitar or a bass through a pic related synth with certain wiring?
I mean using it as an effect pedal, for experimental and curiousity purposes.

You can try to convert your bass signal into midi by making some random algorithm with arduino. When it come to experiment and weird stuff, everything is possible.
>>
honestly, probably not.

synths like that are just one big circuit board, so unless you're gonna figure out how those little black blobs of silicon work and wire directly into 'em, then there's no chance.

some synths will do this though; check out Access Virus B (probably other ones too) - they have microphone inputs that let you input stuff like microphones/guitars and let you use all their effects/vocodors n stuff on external sounds (not just the internal sounds)

also try googling "circuit bending" for musical shit

have fun!

What is more lethal in an electric current, amps or volts?
>>
>>1157863
current is what kills you. It's why stun guns and tazers do not generally kill people while they run 50k volts through them.
>>
>>1157863
It depends on the situation and your skin resistance, if your body is dry it has about a 300Ω resistance, if it is wet through sweat it will be lower, down to about 50Ω, this is why people in showers die so much quicker than people with dry skin.
Also, when the current past the heart is taken into account, that will kill a person a lot sooner than just a shock to the right hand.

Not too hard.

I got a cheap pair of video goggles and used an Arduino to generate and overlay a HUD onto the camera feed.
For sensors I have a geiger counter, compass, GPS, and gas detector.
The only real challenge I had was making sure my code didn't use more than the 4kb of RAM I had available (the video buffer used like 90% of it).

Hey /diy/

Just wondering if you guys have any experience with checking/finding bad circuit components. I have a Samsung LCD TV that is doing the typical clicking and failure to power on.

Ive already searched the power supply board for any bulging caps and haven't found any. I've also checked where the power board connects to the logic board and its supposed to be sending 6V through to it. My multimeter is reading 5.23V from the lead where it reaches the logic board.

1. Is this a power supply board issue?

Will post pictures of the boards and reading...

OP here. I have conducted a few tests of the power board. It looks like when I jump the PS_ON and SB_6V pins of the power supply, the logic board is only outputing 1.93V instead of the 12V it should be reading.

I've checked all the pins using the below video, and all are outputting around the same 1.86, 1.93 V when they should be outputting 5, 12 V

More than likely your psu
Only similar problem I've seen was a monitor which would do the on/off thing and that turned out to be a faulty switch with corrosion on it.

not just bulging caps you wanna look for burn marks and such as well. any damage really.

Hey Fellas, I have a two story garage that I've been using for smoking with friends for maybe 3 weeks or so now, and I've noticed how shabby and dull it is, it's just a cluttered mess and I want to make it a more comfy place to hangout at. I was looking for any suggestions on how I can improve the place; I have anything you see in the pictures at my disposal (for the most part). A good amount of room, I can take some rough measurements if anyone's interested. But in all that's it, any ideas?

Finish it with sheet rock. And maybe some carpet or tile..
>>
>>1172435

>>
>>1172436
carpet is just going to get fucked up, and that right quick. get some of the plastic faux wood flooring. the stuff that snaps together.

drywall it. 1/4" is cheap and you can easily hang all that area in a day.

of its a spoof, then you should have it in italian, with subtitles that are completely different to what's said in italian, and then go for proper 70's blatantly obviously red paint fake blood.

Hey Guys!

I need some advice here. One of my client want me to install a fireproof safe to his house. He do got a budget of 500$.

He live in a appartment and he mostly want to store documents (paper). His main concern is a home fire that go wild.

So here what I did. He brought me a Home Centry fireproof safe (rated 1 hour). In the Safe I put some X Fire Rated Dry wall on all the inside + roxul insulation rock wool.
On the outside, I rolled the safe into roxul insulation, made a case of drywall X Fire Rated (3 layers) and put the covered roxul insulation safe in the drywall case. Entirely closed the drywall to make a box. Put more roxul insulation over the drywall box.
After this I built another bigger box of Drywall (2 layers) and in that I made a box of insulated fire bricks which I put the original 3 layers Drywall box into.

So the things is approx a box of 80 CM by 80 CM and here is the detailled protection layer from the center :

Important documents - Rowul Insulation - Fire Rated Drywall (1 Layer) - Fire Proof Safe - Roxul Insulation - Fire Rated Drywall (3 Layers) - Roxul Insulation - Insulated Fire Bricks Box ( With fire resistant sealant) - Fire Rated Drywall (2 Layers). Everything is sealed and closed with nails. Also every layer have been painted with resistant paint.

The box is approx 300 LBS. As he doesn't need to open the box before 3-4 years, it won't be open and now it is a plain box.
He does plan to hide it between wall in his basement.

As I want to know, I charged him 300$ for this (as the material cost was under 100$ and he provided the safe).
Do you think in a major home fire (in which the fire would burn to the ground). Would the box survive the fire?
Is there any other protection I could add as prevention?
Thanks for the help!

>Would the box survive the fire

Fire safes are usually just drywall and steel, the at the door gap use an expanding material that seals when it gets hot.

The fire rating in usually marketing bullshit: they rate it at a certain temperature for a certain time. House fires can reach 3000 degrees with enough combustible material, but usual stay under 2500. Average time it takes to put out a whole house fire can be about 30 mins.

But the fire ratings are usually low; 1500 for 30 minutes is not comparable to 3000 for 15 minutes.
>>
>>1172257
When fires get really hot and a good fire safe is used, the insides can still get charred from the heat causing irreparable damage despite no actual flame damage.

This is because of the high heat and low oxygen. If it's really Damn important documentation, he should scan to an electronic media and store it in a safety deposit box in a bank.

No offense OP, but it's just the better method than having a buddy make an amateur fire safe.
