Alright lads. I am a grown ass man with skills or access to people with them.

Been in a lot of mines.

Mine for a living.

YOLO.

Not this May but next i start digging.

This dig if successful will actually never end. Not in my lifetime anyway.

You have the equipment, staff, and know how.

You make a pretty descent living.

You can spend ~$10,000 USD a month buikding a bunker and fitting it to your desires.

Assume u already have a faggot normie above ground house your wife makes u live in.

Ina ground is your litteral man cave.

What would you do?

But to answer your question, I'd dig down, and keep doing so until it gets too hot. Then I'd dig further, install a massive thermopile, and laugh at my country for being nuclear-free because its geothermal power is nuclear power. I would live in this massive inverted tower because towers are the shit.

Stupid questions thread! I'll start.

Can i silicone a piece of metal to my bathtub? My shower curtain has magnets but there's nothing for them to stick to. Is this a decent solution?

Do LEDs need resistors or can you just cool them and be fine?

Why does literally everywhere say they absolutely need resistors? I've read most are around 60C max temp

I have a power supply that will allow 10amps pull before it's fuse goes out, the LEDs are maybe 3 amps at most

I keep them cold (around 25C) and at 6volts (they are rated 6-7 volts)

I've had no issues at all

Why do I need a resistor?
>>1156809
Will it stick and stay? yes it will, make sure you apply a good amount of pressure for 24+ hours to let it dry
>>
>>1156816

>Do LEDs need resistors or can you just cool them and be fine?

Yes...they do...

> the LEDs are maybe 3 amps at most

Nope...much much less...

>Why do I need a resistor?

To make the circuit look pretty...

Best of luck...your in for a world of disapointment...
>>
>>1156820
Are you answering me incorrectly on purpose? My LEDs use 3amps, I'm looking at their draw right now.. they're 5 watts each at 6 volts I've had them going for months without resistors 24/7 on plants

I mean, seriously. The 20% coupons always exclude welders so that's no help. And I always check the sales papers and it seems like welders are never on sale and it pisses me off. I can't afford a Miller welder plus the $650 for an argon tank, you know?

Buy a used one on craigslist?

I'd bet you can buy a better welder secondhand than a Chinese HF one new.
>>
>>1174520
Maybe. I actually own an HFT MIG welder that works really well aside from the shit duty cycle but unless I'm doing a ton of welding at a time it works fine.

You looking for an arc welder or a tig?

I personally wouldn't buy a cheap tig simply because I want to be able to weld titanium and other exotic metals with it. Plus the start flare will make the welds look like shit, and not having the variable power options and AC/DC welding, etc.

Wait till it's cold or use a potholder... lift the black cap off.. use a small wire brush and the edge of a putty knife or other thin object to clean all the channels in the silver metal part immediately below the black cap... put the black cap back on... make sure it is centered.... should even out the flame.
>>
>>1174422
the black circle bit lifts right off. take it off and turn it on, if it still doesn't come out from one side then clean those ports
>>
>>1174439
90% sure from the look of it that if you turn this on without the black burner cap the gas is gonna go straight up and not ignite unless your really unlucky

How would I got about remounting a ceramic towel rack that fell off the wall in the picture?
What's the best way to keep it secure for years?
Also would it be worth repairing the plastic bar that goes with it if it snapped in half, or should I just get a replacement?

what would you recommend for for cleaning up the edges a bit, it chipped off so there will be some small cracks if I reattach it to the wall

Hey /adv/ non-lurking first time poster here. English is not my first language, and I don't know the lingo, so please make this short and sweet

Kind of in a hurry to get a couple of MDF supports ready for some oil paintings. I've painted on MDF for years, and I usually make my own, but recently ran into a problem with two freshly made 90x90cm 6mm boards that a possibly useless carpenter student friend of mine made as a returning favour.

The boards bend in a convex curve, and I'd like to know if I can unbend them by soaking them a bit and pressing down with weights of some sort. How do I go about this? Do I need to use steam, or is warm water enough? Should I soak the convex or concave sides, or both?

The boards will be lying flat on the floor, on the wooden 'stretcher frames' they're glued onto, with convex sides faced upwards.
Do I also need to soak the wooden stretchers?

>tl;dr how to bend MDF using heavy weights
Cheers for any insights

>>
>>1174272
you have to put something heavy on it so it bow the other way, and then wait
>>
>>1174279
yeah you need to bow it in the other direction a little bit more

i wouldn't wet it/steam it
>>
>>1174283
>not wetting it
Are you sure? What prevents it from just popping back up?

>not even the wooden stretchers?
I'll give it a try I guess

Hey /diy/ I have a question for u electrically savy people

So at my dad's property he bought there's a lamp post cemented in the rock with about 2 feet of household wire coming out that bottom.

I buried about 50 feet of steel encased outdoor wire to the base of the lamp post.
Basically the lamppost wire got cut when he wad putting a gas line in.

Now what's the best way to make the connection? Do I need to buy an outdoor box and do a proper connection in the box or could I use end connectors and shrinkwrap to make a water tight connection? Or is there an easier way all together?

The wire is like pic related

>>
Proper IP rated box with isolator switch and fuse.
>>
>>1174156
>best way
rebury a conduit and use the conduit and make it run into the post and to the lamp with one wire

>outdoor wire to lamp
if the splice is underground, rerun the wire

if the splice is 2 feet above ground, use any splice and make it waterproof and use a box

>easy way
twist new wires on it and call it a day
>>
>>1174156
If there's only 2 feet of wire hanging from the lamp... why not take it apart, remove the wire and wire the new wire to the lamp directly? It'll probably be cheaper than making a new proper connection and much less of a hassle than getting /diy/ to agree on which connection is better.

Wrap the arm in condoms.

Hello /diy/

I have something different to ask of you. I need something that I can spray onto a spandex/under armour shirt and pants to stiffen it up and retain its shape, but can then be easily separated from the skin via sliding scissors under it and peeling it away.

I don't expect much help considering the final goal of this, but any help that turns out to work would be a BREAKTHROUGH in the subject.

Liquid starch, you will have to wait for it to dry though and if your BREAKTHROUGH involves the clothing getting wet then it won't work.

Making side money as an hvac contractor, yea or nay?

Ive been doing service and installs on hvac and refrigeration equipment for the past 2 years and toy with the idea of doing service calls on the side. I need to buy my own torches and vacuum pump, but i got the rest of it. Im in central texas if that matters

I'm sorry. I have to live near Killeen and Waco for some years while in the Army. Truly the worst place I have ever lived and that is counting Barstow, the Armpit of California. Terrible weather, no trees, garbage infrastructure, awful people, and a day drive from anywhere worth being.

I did HVAC for about a year and a half and wanted to start doing side jobs. Where I worked didn't pay the best, so all the guys there did some sort of side work to make their nut. They would pay us $15/hr and a side job furnace install would make them $400 in 4 hours or so.

Hello, nub questions incoming.
24V DC motors. Almost exactly the size of a soda can.
I'm going to to build a very basic power assisted cart with them. Load is not an issue.
What I'm wondering is the following:

Im planning on using DeWalt 20V batteries to power it, but should I even need to worry about stepping up the voltage 4 volts?

Is the listed voltage the optimal voltage, or what they're rated for?

Would PWM speed control with under voltage make a difference?

Man I got super lucky. Slip on gear drives with set screws through the shaft. These are going to be super easy to work with as long as they're not some weird low RPM.
>>
>>1173820
If they're just run of the mill brushed motors, you can run them on a slightly lower voltage with a larger than you might expect drop in power. The voltage is lower, so they won't pull as much current-- and both work against you. You're losing over 30% of their output.

1. Remove that loose piece of board.
2. Square off the hole with a dull knife.
3. Cut new board to size.
4. Install two supports for the new board to be installed. (see picture)
>>
>>1173737
5. Install the new board with screws.
6. Fill up the gaps with stuc.
7. Pattern and paint.
